I was under the impression that Concentrated Effect applies only to the enemies you hit with splash damage when you link it to a single-target skill with Melee Splash Support, which would mean it wouldn't apply to my single-target damage on bosses. Is that correct? Or does Melee Splash make the whole skill count as AoE and benefit? If it works on everything, another more modifier would certainly be nice.
They should really rename Melee Damage on Full Life to Melee Physical Damage on Full Life. I'm even playing CI, so I was pretty disappointed when I figured that out.

Only the splash damage benefits from conc effect yes
|
man they need to rename that gem. i couldve sworn it was all melee dmg not just phys.
and yeah, conc would only apply to the aoe piece. you lose some aoe but it feels a lot better to be doing evenish dmg across a slightly smaller area. i played slayer flicker though and i think the slayer aoe passive has a much larger dmg penalty on the aoe piece, cant say if itll feel the same using melee splash instead.

If sustaining frenzy charges is not a problem go faster attacks, else you could consider running added cold with pyre or increased aoe for clearspeed.
|
Sustaining Frenzy is definitely no problem for Oro's Elementalist, but that reminds me the other reason I wasn't sure about Faster Attacks - for builds that do lots of ignite damage and don't use Emberwake, slower, bigger hits are preferable. But it might still be a better option than anything else.
Sadly, neither Emberwake nor Pyre are in the cards; both my ring slots are pretty well spoken for unless I can afford Skyforth (spoiler: I cannot).

If it were 100% chaos conversion, the build would be a lot more palatable to me though I would still be unsure about giving up the massive raw damage Flameblast as your channeling skill provides since it benefits from literally everything Firestorm does (even the poison if you chaos convert).
One other minor wrinkle is that it's pretty much impossible to push Wither to a "cast twice for the minimal amount of time and proc level 20 Cast while Channeled" level of cast speed since its base cast time is 0.28 and you need to get to 0.18, but cast speed feels gross to get lots of points in for CwC. Flameblast starts with 0.20, making it more manageable on gear alone (in fact, you may need to avoid cast speed on your gear to stay above 0.18). Yes there is hoop jumping involved but you kill stuff faster than with fire damage and ignite immune are not a problem. Map clearing is a problem it seems, I will try to improve on the build with my character :D (thinking about using 2x Vortex Totems instead of Arctic Breath now for map clearing while switching main skill into this Wither+Firestorm for boss fights) Edit: Alternative is to have two Firestorm totems in addition for map clearing. I might even overkill the map with all the firestorm :D Vortex has advantage of getting my helmet cold bonus to give bonus damage and since first hit is fire because of pyre and chaos as a result, degen is cold as pyre does not convert that and slows down everyone in range for poison to finish them off (and with those gloves Vortex totem should also Temporal chains everyone it hits). Let me quote myself to confirm this build is insane. Currently clearing tier 8-9 maps with lvl 11 wither connected with lvl 10 CwC connected with lvl 14 Firestorm :D Map bosses die within seconds. My 2x Vortex Totem clear normal mobs fast. This might be my strongest build yet :D

I am certain it can be optimized better with better gear on character.

Evo, I think I've been looking at this the wrong way.

Occultist solves almost every problem I had running elementalist, with no real penalty for damage, in fact probably more.

Made a small kickround, the following people got the axe and were gone since 6+ months, as usual feel free to post here again or message people to get back in. <3

Hmmm... the build doesn't utilize Wicked Ward unless I'm missing something, so all we gain from Occultist is the PCoC and +1 Curse (which saves us quite a few points).
I'm 90% sure I'll go for this version here, my guy died to a disconnect while levelling anyway: http://poeurl.com/UWs
Should sit at 10-12k Armour without flasks, 2 Purities, Discipline and Determination. One could swap shield to Prism Guardian for 3 Purities and Vitality on top. Loses quite a bit of base ES again but might be worth the tradeoff, doubt it tho.
First version sits on 4.8% Life (ES) regen, second at 7% regen.
It will have slightly less ES than Trickster either way (need more than 1.5k mana to pull even), but gains the strong phys mitigation and starts out as CI just the same with a bit less tankyness. Should result in being way, way tankier vs phys than any CI build despite being LL while maintaining the pool and resists that protect it vs Elemental.
Could do pretty damn well for both shit like Lab and all the Breach shit.

I don't want to use wicked ward, double curse with warlods + enfeeble/temp chains and leech on boots means I'm never out of mana, I'd use a chayula anyway because the amount of stuns this league is pretty impressive, and the pcoc solves the real issue of generating charges.
|
Hmhm. Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I think I'm mostly trying really, really hard to avoid Blasphemy Curses because that means less resists and Ar for Guardian or Ev for Trickster respectively. Leech would be solved with Vinktars+Boots enchant.
Having a hard time judging how much 2 Purities (with one low CwDt curse) *really* do compared to 2 Blasphemies. My basic line of thinking is that 75 -> 80% res ~20% more EHP, which combined with a low enfeeble should beat a high level enfeeble for everything past the first hit. So basically less tanky vs one element and more tanky vs the other two and phys damage.
I'm also torn more and more about VP because Patient Reaper and Unwavering Faith end up adding quite a decent chunk of regen.

Cant really use vinktars for leech with a fire spell.

Hey guys! I only have a macbook (no PC here unfortunately) do you know if I can easily download and play PoE? Do you have any experiences with it?
Thanks!!

OK, after having fun with the fire to chaos character I am back into planning my first Breach character. I already decided to play a Shadow as I have not played that class in Essence. My first plan was to make a Ice Nova crit Assassin but after having so much fun with XX to Chaos conversion and I never played a trap character in PoE I am thinking of trying a Voltaxic Rift and some lightning based traps and a Saboteur. I already got a character in standard that I can test this a bit with (but I don't want to overplay it so it is not boring for me in Breach). So I would like some advice from you veterans, I assume some of you played more with traps.
Currently I am trying out Lighting Trap and Spark. Both use DrillNeck and I got 100% pierce (kind of using items I already got in Standard but Drillneck is not expensive in Breach as well; and Voltaxic Rift is dirt cheap). I am using Poison Support to help with damage output.
Maybe I should not try projectile spell? Maybe Storm Call or Arc? Would you go life or CI? LL seems best for Pain Attunement bonus damage but that requires a Shavrone (I don't want to frack around with finding chaos resistance with 1st character)
Maybe going Physical damage spell like Bladefall with Physical to Lightning conversion would be even better with physical also contributing to poison damage? EDIT: Or I should just give up on Voltaxic Rift and go 2xInnsbury Edge and Lightbane Raiment for 80% phy to chaos conversion? All 3 items are also cheap but LL or CI is impossible with Lightbane Raiment
Also there is a unique jewel that gives 25% chance of traps poisoning on activation, getting 4 of those is 100% and I can skip on using a support Poison gem. But would you say it is worth it wasting 4 jewels on something like that?

I recently levelled bolbsaboteur to 67 before the accident (me at 5% cold resistance, 2k hp vs arctic breath) and I'm pretty confident that lightning trap with shield charge is possibly the fastest clearing ability in the game at that point, it felt like it was on par with vaal spark for reference. With that said, I'm not convinced you need to go saboteur in order to make it work, I'm also not convinced that crit ice nova traps aren't super viable either.
www.poeurl.com/U66
This is a ice to fire conversion ice trap build, which I believe will do riduculous damage probably one hitting the screen. My suggested links would be in order of priority:
Ice nova, trap support, cluster traps, increased aoe, fire pen, controlled destruction/empower3+/trap and mine damage/elemental focus (for ignite immune).
The good thing is that boots exist with a free 5 link for trappers (deerstalker boots), and if you run a sunblast belt and 2 cheap construction jewels all 4 traps will detonate as soon as they're armed.
To complete the build run a pyre gem for conversion. This build should also work with vortex.
If you're set on chaos conversion, then I'd probably run a life based lightning trap saboteur, with the following tree:
www.poeurl.com/U67
This is a life based evasion movespeed build, ala king of the forest. Stack up evasion to move faster, and it's presuming you're on softcore as it only has 148% life. All 4 jewel sockets should use coated shrapnel, and the three required uniques are drillneck, queen of the forest, and voltaxic. The links for this would be:
Lightning trap > pierce > cluster traps > elemental focus > void manipulation > controlled destruction
Blade fall traps are most definitely an option, but really physical to lightning is questionable as typically you want to stack up poison damage with that skill.
Levelling with traps is awkward until you get to the clever construction node, then it picks up really quick. By the time your in merciless it's probably the fastest way to level in the game.

I think I will run Bladefall with 3 uniques converting physical 80% to chaos. I watched some Bladefall videos only focusing on physical (which means weaker poison) and they already deleted bosses (deleting Atziri while wearing +1 Tabula :D). I prefer skills that deleted bosses over fast clearing maps (as I like to pick up all yellow items anyways with my first character). But from what I tried on Standard, Bladefall has a bit of problem with clearing maps, especially compared to Lighting Trap (which has a serious problem killing bosses). I need to find a way to do both :D
Also if I use that sunbelt and 2 jewels I can for example be a Pathfinder that poisons with all skills while using potions. It would not be using a shadow as I planned but maybe this is a good choice. I can save up on using 4 jewels to get poison or use a poison support. But I will need to upkeep potions which is not such a big problem with pathfinder.
Your elemental trappers also sounds fun and I got me seriously thinking about it but for now I really want to try a chaos/poison trapper. Now the question is if I should go Saboteur or Pathfinder and how can I improve on map clearing while still having powerful boss deletion traps :D
EDIT: Frack, Lightbane raiment is a int/str item while I need almost all green items for traps :D I guess with high enough Vorici I can craft 3 green on it and hope for 2 blue for a Bladefall+Trap+ClusterTraps+AddedChaos+ConcentratedEffect 5L and run those trapper boots until then.

i got my BHC vis mortis to 6 sockets. been trying unsuccessfully to link them for a while now

Trapper is very fun to play. I was one of the first to play Vortex trapper.

Poison scales off chaos and phys damage. Also would swap Added Chaos for Trap Damage.
