So I have been trying to come up with a viable BodySwap self cast build. I have tried Slayer (non crit), Scion (assassin/slayer) crit, Inquisitor crit and Berserker non- crit.
Berserker got most life (around 10 k) and around 300 000 dps vs map bosses but that it with really good gear (kaom's armor, t2/t3 mods on rares and very good jewels.). When I get rid of some of these I get around 8000 life and 270 000 dps or less. This characters uses a Staff with + to fire skills (Realm Ender or Searing Touch).
Slayer got more defense (but less life) and less DPS, around 240 000.
Scion got about same DPS, 300 000 but around 7000 life with good gear. Note that both Slayer and Scion went for Kaom boots instead of Kaom armor so I can use a weapon and shield (Doryani + Saffel Frame).
Inquisitor got about same life as Scion but around 350 000 dps. But he does not have overleech. He uses a Yoke of Suffering amulet that lets him shock with fire damage which is another good boost (and BodySwap does good damage per hit and shock should work well).
All characters use Righteous fire to boost dps of BodySwap (Also gives a bit dps on top of it - 50k more for Berserker which I didn't count into number above).
Anyways I tried every trick I could think off (EE, EO, + to skill gems, max life) and none got me good enough results in my opinion. Around 300k is not good enough with such good/expensive items. Here is for example the Berserker version: https://pastebin.com/H2E6sqCQ (PoB)
Anyone got some willpower to take on this challenge and come up with a way to make a good selfcast Bodyswap character? Or look over my try and maybe notice way to improve it all.
BodySwap could be cool, you move and kill at same time, you just start the process with a few bodies. It just needs a way to do 500 000+ dps while also being a character that does not die by teleporting into middle of enemies all the time...
Why did GGG make BodySwap so bad If I take same character and put DD instead of BodySwap, replace Faster Casting with Spell Echo I get 500 000 dps... this is with a character that put most of its points into life so to maximise Body Swap base damage... seems body swap needs some really imaginative way to maximise its damage...

Why did GGG make whirling blades so bad If I take same character and put bladeflurry instead of whirling blades i get 10x dps... oh right yeah thats because one is a movement ability and one is a dps ability

Yeah but don't you need a corpse to teleport? So it's not really a movement ability in that sense, you can't use it to move around maps freely without killing things first, could you

Like Duka said, it is not really the same.
Also Cyclone is a movement ability and it is not bad.
Cyclone is the bastard child of movement skills. It literally explicitly slows you down. Note how you can use it in haku missions without dropping the spirit. It also will give you a lower dps number than almost any non-movement attack skill.
Anyway, you don't have to agree with me i'm just trying to help you understand how the game is designed. Complaining that bodyswap does less damage than another non-movement ability with the exact same conditional requirements (a corpse) is the same as complaining that whirling blades does less damage than another non-movement ability with the exact same conditional requirements (weapon type).
Flicker strike seems like the best movement ability to compare it to mechanically and its usable as a main ability, but ultimately sn0_man is prolly right, they stuck some random damage numbers on for flavor and expected it to be used only as a movement ability.

But it is way worse than almost any other movement ability.
At least compared to Lightning Warp I did manage to make a Bodyswap totem Inquisitor that can do high red maps (but has problems in boss fights).
I'm not very happy with abyss staying TBH. even at higher rarity, the belts and jewels are going to be too strong, the only thing that will change is now they will cost a lot more. Also the mechanic itself just isn't that fun. It involves a lot of backtracking, waiting on the abyss cracks, and the abyssal depths really don't feel worth it if you don't get a litch.
I don't think Abyss jewels will become chase items per se. I think right now with how freely available they are it's easy to get a hold of some really insane jewels for shockingly cheap and build around them. But for most of the builds I've done, switching to a similar quality classic jewel in PoB would have been just as good. Just way more expensive. So when abyss jewels are more rare and therefore probably as expensive as their classic counterparts, it won't really matter right? Back to "normal"
I imagine whether or not regular jewels can compete with abyss jewels depends on the build. For my ES wander I was able to make regular jewels in PoB that would be better than my abyss jewels which are in the area of 75 average elemental damage and 40-50 ES, no such jewels exist on poe.trade Although maybe that's due to the league basically being dead at this point, who knows.
Oh yeah it'll be build dependent for sure. I mean there were builds this league really designed to take advantage of those jewels. But when they're hard to come by or prohibitively expensive then those builds will just adjust accordingly or go away. I saw that more as taking advantage of the opportunity while they're around, rather than "when abyss jewels get expensive / go away it will destroy X, Y, and Z builds". Wanders have been around before Abyss and they'll probably still be around after, you just won't build around having a bunch of relatively cheap flat damage or take 8 sockets or whatever lol.
Elder normal belt would be extremely competitive though. Darkness Enthroned/Stygian bis for certain builds isn't much different from Crystal Belt being bis for some builds before.
After trying some more I cannot make an end game viable BodySwap build... so for fun I wanted to see how much dps could a Detonate Dead build do. I made (PoBed) a MoM DD Inquisitor. Character has around 9000 ehp and does around 1.3 mil dps to map bosses (spell part + corpse explosion part on level 80 corpses). Uses 6l Pledge of Hand and Kaom's Armor out of more expensive items. Does not depend on RF, EE and rest of the mechanics that you have to frack around to get working. Maybe I should try this character in this league while it is still running

You don't wear it, enemies do
You just keep it in your inventory and drop it near boss at start of fight. boss picks it up and after that throws those little worms until boss dies. After death he drops it again. If someone else picks it up before the boss, kill them so they drop it so the boss can pick it up. That is exactly what happens in this video.

Thats exactly what will change tho, Abyssal Depth WILL be worth it. And back tracking will not annoy you as much because you meet them as rarely as Breaches, making them much more important..so backtracking doesnt annoy you as much cause it doesnt happen every single freaking map anymore :D
