I was trying to aim for CI last time around on my FP witch, but I didnt like the progression and the gear requirements seem to be a bit more difficult to meet than just going life, this time I'm going life and doing fine thus far. I don't know what your tree looks like but I'm working towards this: Witch FP Life
You can see once I get the life nodes that are available for more survivability I will skill into some shield enhancements because that seems to be the most economical option for witch. But any thoughts/comments on the build are welcome :D

I level so slow... is it still normal to just level ledges - fellshire - western - sarn - docks and group for quests/bosses?

I'm pretty sure the critical strike chance + assassination on right, does not affect spells. Also, you should be looking to remove alacrity + might. Also in beginning of tree, spell damage > cast speed.
Not sure if you're softcore or hardcore, but if you're soft core you probably don't need spell block, also you don't need deep thoughts. Should also be looking to go all the way to the top for all the cold damage nodes.
Also your tree is going way too far to the left, if you're looking for crit+Cold, should be looking to up, and to the right.
Also feel like you're specc'd way too much into health. (unless you're playing Hardcore, probably overkill on the defense).

It doesn't specify anything so it affects all crit chances including spells.
also kick is indeed playing hardcore.

You probably want the Heart of Ice nodes and Whispers of Doom so you can elemental weakness and frostbite curse things. Still working on what you want to take out to pick them up though. You will probably have to sacrifice some of the crit nodes.

My Flame Totem build is still going strong, will hopefully make it to Merciless again tomorrow. Master quests are so-so with it. My former chars all had problems with Vagan, which my Flame Totem char easily beats in the required time.
However, Vorici quests require kiting so I don't kill wrong stuff. Worst are Elreon quests, which almost always contain Raging Spirits which aren't being targeted so that it's almost a guaranteed fail. Well, I just started writing in the global 820 chat whenever I see a master, so that kinda solves it.
Oh and... hmm I think I also should pick up Dual Curse and leave out some dmg nodes instead... Probably.

How high is the freeze chance for freezing pulse? I think with the current tree and the fact that FP can pseudo shot gun, freezing might be enough without going crit. That would open up a lot of points in your tree.
//Your tree kinda irritates me (not in a bad way, it's just irritating). I tried to change things around, make it more efficient and switch crit for freeze/dmg. Ended up getting a lot of dmg and freeze but no life. I looked at the tree for my arc witch and I somehow managed to get all the shock nodes, same damage, way more life (>200%) while traveling through the entire tree, picking up MoM (didn't pick block nodes though). I guess it's too late for me or the fact that I'm too caught in your tree.

Yes I am in hardcore. I think you are right about getting an additional curse, it would be beneficial for both offence and if needed I could put a defensive curse on curse on hit which for Beyond league I think would be quite nice. I am not sure if I would want to sacrifice crit for more dmg though, in my mind cold crit is somewhat defensive as well because it freezes the mobs, and if my crit chance goes down would not my chance to freeze them go down as well? (as I understand it every critical hit freezes). I like the crit because I can get insane crit multiplier but also be safe in the regard that enemies will mostly be frozen.
Also, I am currently in a3 cruel, will probably take tonight to get to merciless assuming I have time after class and homework, but I am a merciless newbie so I have some questions. I feel still quite weak defense wise and think my health and armor might be too low. My resistances are fine for now (they are capped here in cruel, and I am also leveling purity of elements that I can run if needed in merciless). Here are my current stats: (screen shot)+ Show Spoiler +
Is my health too low to be heading into merciless? What should I am for to begin progressing past a3cruel and onto merciless? Also, how much will resistances and chaos res drop from going cruel -> merciless? While playing I feel that beyond feeling like my health is a bit low I think I take waaaaaaay too much physical damage, so I think gearing armor/es, pure armor, with maybe an es/ev chest (for link colors) to get my physical resistance higher. I am running a surgeons granite flask of iron skin (+95% :D!) atm but would still like to have the armor without needing to activate the flask. I think my gear is pretty shitty overall but like I said since I have little to no experience at this point in the progression or beyond I am a bit stuck on what I should be doing. I think if I added my currency together and liquidated my assets I would have around 3ex give or take that I could use to gear up for merciless progression/maps (maybe? don't know what the recommended stat threshholds for maps are either =[ ): (screenshot of current currency) (p.s. taking donations to give to the needy, me being the needy :D i keed i keed); the hell spoilering the img wont work so here imgur link QQ: http://imgur.com/ukK4tv3 Also, I kind of want to link a spell echo to my current setup (right now have a 4L running Freezing Pulse (10% quality), LMP, pcoc, and increased critical damage (12% quality)) because the damage increase from spell echo is massive (ran it on my previous fp witch because it dropped early for me, but dont have one now ='[), but would it maybe be better to get a life leech instead on a 5L or can I wait for a 6L for that. I guess life leech might be safer but I am still not sure, what do you guys think?
TLDR: How should I gear to solve my physical damage/armor and health problems????

There are a couple nodes in that Heart of Ice wheel that will give you a chance to freeze on non-crits so you still have some additional defensive capacity. 2% spell pen is a huge damage boost on resist capped mobs so you really need to find a way to include the Heart of Ice passive. The nodes are pretty similar to the templar start area if you really want to keep the crit, but that will only provide half the points you need.
With the changes to life flasks I imagine you can get away with not using life leech, just be careful with reflect mobs.
Good granite usage comes with practice. The majority of your armor is always going to come from your granite flask so learn how to use it well. You can always add in endurance charges via enduring cry if you're looking for some extra physical mitigation. It can be annoying to recast every ten seconds, but you can often get 100% uptime through the cwdt gem.
In terms of items to look out for you want to hold out until the 60s to buy new gear if you can. Unless the base item requires a higher level you can use any rare gear at level 63 with the proper stat requirements. You'll probably need to pick up a few items to fill in your resistances once you hit merciless though, just don't spend a lot of money on gear you're going to replace in ten levels. You want to spend enough so you don't die, but finding the sweet spot is up to you.

Cruel is too early to have PCoC and ICD linked. Crit is only useful when both crit chance and multi are high. Replace for now with cold pen and spell echo. Spell Echo (@ lvl1) is literally 135% damage multiplier and 97.5% mana per second multiplier, for a little bit of immobility. Any self caster should take it.

honestly it depends on how strong you are but if you are clearing quick, never stop going forward (if you are in softcore). but don't skip monsters that are right next to you unless they are a pain in the ass to kill.

decent evasion, decent life, acrobatics, gonna run cloak of defiance and AA. also these nodes freeze everything, and if i max out this tree i have great options for the rest of my points (probably will put into crit stuff) super easy to level

If you have 1-2 of the -mana rings (by Elreon I think?), Freezing Pulse is so so nice for leveling lol. I had one of them and was able to run 3 link with barely any mana costs and 4 link with clarity very early.
|
Also, the +2 mana on hit node is insane. If you're close to it, consider getting it for leveling and respeccing out later if you want.

Skill Tree Plans: Well the tree I linked is just the plan from the guide I was using, my actual build I am only level 49 and my tree atm is: Kickstart_ Current Tree
Since I am in beyond do you guys think I need to change what I have atm and then diverge from the planned build I linked earlier? (this one: Completed Witch Life based FP )
Let me know what changes I should make :S
Here is what I am thinking now for a final build given some of the feedback thus far: New plan, 106 points
First thing I will do is switch from cast speed at the beginning of the witch tree over to spell damage, I'm not sure why the guide I was following had cast speed over damage, but from the feedback I have gotten it seems spell damage is better on most accounts. Then I will grab the remaining life on the left side of the tree (Discipline and Training and Athleticism), followed by going down near witch starting area to grab the +life+mana (heart and soul) and also grabbing Deep Wisdom.
I think that is the best plan for the near future but after that I'm not sure which areas to branch too first, I will probably just go by what I feel I need, whether that is more survivability/utility/damage (where I would go towards Blood Siphon/Whispers of Doom/Heart of Ice respectively).
Power charges won't be need until later, when I manage to get a 5L I think. I changed up my FP gem links per the advice I recieved and removed pcoc and icd and replaced them with spell echo and cold penetration, making my current 4L setup [Freezing Pulse(10% quality) + Lesser Multiple Projectiles + Spell Echo + Cold Penetration]. With a 5L I will add back the Power Charge on Critical Strike and with a 6L Increased Critical Damage (12% quality).
I am not sure how many points I could theoretically have/am too lazy to check, but once I hit my 'New Plan, 106 points' build I would probably dump the remaining points into either critical chance/multiplier (grabbing Arcane Potency, getting Throatseeker, and lastly finishing the Doom Cast circle) or working my way to Breathe of Rime first and then getting those. Which do you guys think would be best?
Gear Plans: As I mentioned before I really want to get armor, so going forward I will focus on armor/es hybrid gear to try and get my physical resistance to be at least a bit better than it is currently, because I currently feel like physical damage hits me for insane amounts. If I feel I need more armor and some extra elemental resist along the way I can grab the es/armor/res node with 3 more links on the left side of the tree by getting Faith and Steel. I am going to try to make due with what I have now and spend a minimal amount on gear until I hit 60s per recommendation.
Now, after having said all that, lets hope I don't RIP :D
