When you log out of the game while on the map, what happens? Curious about this.
Should I identify items before selling? What should I be trying to get?
I'm going ranger, looking to go for a strong ranged (with bows) build, I guess? Thoughts / tips?
1)The instance you opened is still open for some time. If you log in back fairly quickly, you can go back to the exact same area you explored
2)I identify as many rare (yellow) items as possible to get alteration and alchemy shards to farm currencies. For magic (blue) items, i only identify specific items dropped on high level areas such as amulets, staves and some others.
3)Other people will have a better answer for a bow build.

well I also like swords and the description of the ranger says that it's a dps-based character, based on dexterity, that can use bows and swords. so that sounds pretty interesting. do I have to choose between bow and sword or can I go hybrid?
I also try to loot all the armor / drops I can to sell them to make money. this is optimal, correct?

Why not? My Elreon dingt lvl 6 in Beyond when my first char was about 79.

Maybe I just suck because I didn't have a level 6 master until I was in the mid 80s.

Most of the nodes in the passive tree won't allow you to mix bows and swords. You'll have to end up splitting your damage nodes which will cause your build to be significantly weaker. There are ways to play pseudo ranged builds with melee weapons that utilize Spectral Throw or Lightning Strike. These skills create projectiles so they have range even though they utilize melee weapons for damage. Specialization is required if you want to make it.
The class itself in path of exile only determines where you begin on the passive tree and your gem rewards. You could make a bow build as a marauder or a sword build as a witch if you want. Don't think you're locked into DEX just because you chose the primary DEX character Ranger. It will be easier to play the specific niche due to the way the passive tree is set up, but not impossible to play combinations that would be impossible in a lot of other games.
Picking up everything is a waste of time generally. Leaving most of the blue items on the ground unless you think the specific base can provide an upgrade with minimal stats is a good idea. You might pick up rings or amulets or weapons, especially when your gear is minimal and a one or two stat piece can be an upgrade. Do pick up all the currency. Leaving behind some ID scrolls or some other common currencies when you have more than you need can be good to save time, but you can decide how you value time.
As for bow build you can play "TheEvoBuild" which is very similar to Build of the Week S3W2. The video/guide in that should get you some basics.

Crafting is so fucked up these days "Gee I hope that when I roll flaring there isn't a suffix so that I can regal a 1-mod item since it's strictly better" thanks ggg
Also took me 6 regals to get a mildly useful 2nd affix QQ (22 local crit, good enough for me).

I'm curious why GGG didn't make it enchanting where you get an extra mod instead of the current iteration.
|
Why would you regal a 1 mod item? I don't understand that. Even if the 2nd mod you get from using Augmentation Orb is shit, you can still regal after and use whatever master mods that you want, no? Unless you are talking about having a lvl 8 master and crafting two mods with master.
|
Talking about using level 8 elreon to put "can have multiple bench mods" on an item.
You have to make the item rare in order for it to have more than 2 total affixes. Generally you are rolling a white high ilevel item for T1 flat phys or T1 IPD. I have yet to roll or math out tyrannical, but I know that on a Harbinger Bow, Flaring with 2 crafted IPD mods is around 300 PDPS. For prefixes you need the "multimod" then you want attack speed and crit chance. IAS pushes you to 330pdps (about).
Now, you can guarantee yourself good attackspeed and fine crit chance. So you'd be happy with literally flaring + 5 master-crafted mods. However, you have to regal the item somewhere. You could augment first, but unless you literally augment better crit or attackspeed than you can craft (pretty unlikely really) It's not worth it. Plus, 80% of regals are bricks I think (anything that isnt IAS, Crit, or a good IPD/Hybrid roll). So augmenting is absolutely negative EV since its around 3 stacks of alts (anecdotally) to get flaring each time and you raise ur brick chance so much just by augmenting, with VERY limited potential return.
Basically u know master crafting's fucked up when exalting an item for an augment isn't worth it.
TL;DR: It's not worth the stacks of alterations to re-roll flaring when you literally can only augment a tiny bit better crit/ias than bench crafting, and everything else is a pure brick.
|
I wouldn't call that fucked up, as 99% people don't get a lvl 8 master and 95% of those people don't use a master service from others as well. (numbers completely made up, might be a bit lower on softcore leagues too)
And I guess that's good, as crafting 2 mods sounds ridicolously OP. I honestly don't see much value in Exalted Orbs anymore either, which makes me think they are not so expensive for their price, but simply because.

It's so easy to get a really strong weapon now (especially for crit builds) via crafting. Prior to masters getting a say 300 pdps harbinger with a good base crit was much harder as now it is easily craftable and mass produced. I know the guy I bought my harbinger from was churning them out at least.

To make the best items still requires very lucky chaosing or eternal exalting since you can't craft the highest rolls.
|
Well, theres a 317 pdps dagger available on beyond for 2ex. Thats what mastercrafting does.
250pdps daggers were an easy 4ex pre master-crafting.
|
Well, a pretty godly master-crafted harbinger is gonna top out around 350pdps with 8.5% crit. Anything above that involves "regal tyrannical" type luck (hi every reddit post ever). But that literally cannot cost more than 1.5ex to craft even if ur unlucky as shit.
Normal-crafting anything better than that (say 370 pdps 9 crit) is I think literally 50+ exalts to do from scratch so... :/
Although to be fair, as soon as you get tyrannical you can eternal/aug/regal/ex craft the rest reasonably easily and mastercraft hybrid IPD until u have the bank to eternal-ex for emp/conq.
I'm in fact quite convinced that divines should be worth more than exalts if people were smart

Unfortunately I've found 3 divines and only 1 exalt on my way to level 89.5 this league.
Divines are "rarer" than exalts lol. But the exalt is worth more than all 3 divines I think.
E: I'm pretty sure 1 ex is well below the "expected" for a char with this much playtime.

On Beyond divines go for 6-8c while Exalteds are 35c plus... so yeah.

Level 89.4; one exa one divine drop. I like to consider my drop luck below average as well ^_^

Any chance on you guys linking me some FOTM builds? A summoner seems like a thing I might try, or some tornado shot fun, or anything else really, I'm just bored of spectral throw dual strike I linked earlier.

U could blindfold urself and start clicking around the ranger tree and make a perfectly viable crit tornado shot character.
Here's a guide by a fairly known player: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1027037 Or my tree (much more defensive, same idea): linky

I've played a lot of chars this league, but I just now managed to get my first lvl 80 char on any HC league, Immortal Achievement yay. That said, it's the first time that I'm not "giving up" in a hardcore league and blaming desync. :D That's mostly because I do not see any fun in playing Rampage (unlike Ambush for example which was great).
Playing a mostly selffound Flameblast Ele Proliferation build right (my own passive tree). Using a 5L Cloak of Flame (by Brother Laz :D) which isn't bad for this build and adds some more survivability. Other option would have been Carcass Jack but I have no evasion at all since I'm using Unwavering Stance. It's mostly for reducing desync and it works even better than I expected, it reduced my desync by a lot. Reflect thankfully is no problem as I found Rise of the Phoenix on my last dead char and with Purity of Fire I have 87% res, which when I don't make a mistake gives me 97% fire res with flasks when hitting reflect mobs (and even 87% is pretty good already). And of course using AA, though only lvl 10.
