I'm pretty sure they use curses or decoy/skellie totems back then to good effect, unless you are melee most people gave up on self casting ec as it takes time away from other actions.
And back then the damage spike was not that insane as now, if I recall GGG did admit that they hike up the dmg of mobs in higher level maps quite recently (a few patches ago) to make up for the powercreep and general increase in players defense (HP change etc).
Back then you can get by with 4khp with ir/mom (standards probably even lower in beta?), nowadays even with 5-6k HP and evasion/ondar/dodge/block and cwdt-ec-ic you pray you don't die to some off screen desync bullshitery
If I recall correctly they actually buffed monster damage twice in the past. MoM wasn't a thing when we didn't have cwdt. And I won't deny that ec+ic increases survivability. I'm just arguing that it was broken from the very start when it was released until now. That GGG even balances damage when having this gem as it is is wrong. What I wanted to show by my statement is that it was once enjoyable to play HC without having Cwdt. Decoy and Skelly Totems were by far the more tactical approach (and for me by that more fun) as the current meta:"lets jump in and hope that all our rng-rolls proc at the right moments.". I just dislike the concept of the gem and mentioned a useful solution: make it reduce the effectiveness of skills instead of the damage. So a level 1 EC would only generate 6,3 charges per 100 monsters with the current 70% reduction. An level 1 IC without buffs and 4 cahrges would only last for 1,575sec instead of 2,25seconds. This would actually have a minimal incentive to level the gem. That a gem is in the gem which by default you DON'T want to level makes me sick actually.
edit1: missed the post by Probemicro; I'm with you that there are mechanics which seem not doable without IC+EC. I would even go a step further and say those situation even with IC+EC are at maximum a 80%-20% chance to survive. Blue Devourers can still pop in ur face when your EC or IC got procced inbefore by some random rhoa or goatman. Devourers, and i think every hc player agrees, are just plain stupid and wrong. Will GGG takeout cwdt+ic+ec without adressing those concerns? From what I know they acted to intelligent in the past for that to happen.
Edit: Things that in my opinion are wrong with CWDT: - avoids animations - you don't want to level it - only damage gets reduced - mandatory
Got no problems in that regard, have like 40 maps >= lvl 75 and 8 of them are 77 and 9 are 78 (didn't play one of those yet). Zana lvl 8 helps and I found cartographers in a 76 and a 77 map (though that's some time ago).
Mostly it's Zana though, especially because I'm not really playing high level maps but playing multiple chars and thus getting free maps from Zana that drop maps.
No lifers complaining its too easy, what else to expect.

I remember back in ambush i got 4 carto boxes within a 6 hour mapping session. Now for just 1 to appear seem almost as rare as an exalt. Zana lvl8 or btfo
IDK why people care about high level maps so much, I level to 85 then roll a new characters. Only need lvl 73 maps, and 74's for 84-85, otherwise xp penalty is pretty tolerable lol.

temp leagues last 3 months so end at around mid march. add a 1 month break (for the hybrid league) so act 4 will be out on april probably.
These temp leagues don't have an end date as they'll end when act 4 is ready. No other information about time lines has been released to my knowledge.
just giving an estimated time, anyway its definitely not going to start earlier than april. and its not gonna start at the end of the year either, they are nearing completion.
Chris said the first act 4 information should be coming out in 6 weeks, which was about 2 weeks ago. So they're still on their timeline for right around April 1st.
Also, there's another race season! Free loots! I'm on track for getting the bino's. I'm a little bored also, no good drops for a long time.

Yah I know it should 3 months. I was just wondering because by right 3 months have already passed ( leagues started beginning of Dec ) but noone has mentioned anything about league end yet so I got confused. Haven't in touch with the game for a short while.
That's really creative but I don't think a flameblast proliferation build is slower. In fact it should be faster. But the dmg of that build might be even higher.
the 3s CD kinda gimps clear speed a little and being low life with no es shield means you really need shav to survive in hc. Otherwise I think build has miles more potential than typical RF fb. (+3 bow , empower, offhand trap setup to mitigate CD etc). Single target DMG would be even more insane with conc effect and higher life
