I've recently become a little addicted to a game, did a search on TL for SnG's and turns out there isn't a single thread about it, so here it goes.
There's this free to play fighting game called toribash
Free download can be found at www.toribash.com
Basically, the game starts out with 2 ragdolls. The fight freeze-frames in increments that vary in length depending on what game mode you're playing.
In these frozen increments, you have a set amount of time to contract, relax, hold or extend any or all of your character's individual muscle groups with the intent to pin, knock out, or gruesomely dismember your opponent.
Sound epic? Thought it might.
Most common game modes are as follows (these are what you'll find in the beginner channels that the toribash servers provide):
Judo: The object of judo is points first and foremost. Points are acquired by hitting, kicking, slamming, punching, and tearing off limbs. You can also win a judo match by knocking your opponent out of the ring or causing one of his limbs to touch the ground (feet and hands are allowed to touch, anything else is a DQ).
Some players aim to dismember a body part and throw it to the ground to achieve victory in judo.
Akido: Akido is a lot like judo, except the primary objective of the game is to bring your opponent to the ground and force a DQ. Grabbing is allowed in this game mode, and you'll find that while you can win based on points, it's in reality much more like olympic wrestling, where pins and ring outs are the only way to win.
Unlike judo, you cannot dismember your opponent in this game mode.
Twin Swords: A very self explanitory game mode. You have two very thin swords where your hands would normally go. The object of this game mode is to cut your opponent into mincemeat while leaving enough of your body intact.
The unique aspect of twin swords is that your limbs are actually allowed to touch the ground in this game mode, and the ring is significantly larger, coupled with a farther spawning distance between the two characters, allowing for a much larger display of unique fighting styles and tricky acrobatics.
There are many other game modes that are impossibly complicated to explain to people who don't even know about the game, but once you get into it, you'll figure them out relatively easily.
To further sway you, I thought I'd post some epic pro video edits to stir your egos into a fit of epic violent male dominance.
Highlights of a very high level tournament. This is what fights will start to look like when you don't suck.
