I hope the GM buys Sutter or Webber (or both if we got room) in the off season. I don't care what we do with our pick.
And a major attitude adjustment judging from the posts in this thread. I don't get to watch hockey much anymore (fucking Kansas) so I have little clue about the Oilers besides a lot of bitching about horrible play with spurts of awesome play.
The Bruins can never stay truly consistent for a whole season, they always come out flat after the all-star break and have trouble scoring. Why can't we be the Red Wings? Lol.
The Devils are putting together a nice run with 5 consecutive wins over the Rangers, Montreal, Philly, Pittsburgh and the Rangers again.
A bit of controversy in their 1-0 win over NYR tonight. The Rangers had pressure in the 3rd and with about 4 seconds left, this happened:
Volchenkov, IMO, doesn't push Gaborik so much as he ties him up and leans on him. As a longtime hockey player I'd say that Gaborik didn't make much of an attempt to not hit Brodeur there. Still, it's a tough call to make and I can see people having the viewpoint that Volchenkov pushed him in, although I do think the right call was made.

Alot of Edmontons horrible play is due to injury's. We are not a very deep team. Our young talent is on the main club. If a few o our guys get hurt, like RNH, Eberle, Hall, Sutton(suspentions but still out), Barker and even Hemsky are missing we end up filling these holes with les then NHL ready players.
Should be an awesome game and can't wait for the HBO series following the two teams.
Just came here to post this! Me and my housemate are making the trip from the UK out to Michigan for this, even if we don't manage to get tickets. GO LEAFS GO! Also, Grabovski on 24/7.. This will be amazing.

There's no winning culture there, I think it's going to take a lot more than a defenceman or two. There's a ton of talent there though.
I agree, they need a solid goaltender too. I'm no oilers fan, but if I were their GM I'd try to get Schnider out of Vancouver in the off season (offersheet, trade or whatever), take a d-man with their first pick and hope the forward bunch continues to improve. I'd say they should try to get a top free agent D man, but they haven't had much luck there recently and I doubt their past record (Pronger, Souray) will encourage that to change. At this point, I see Edmonton turning out a lot more like NYI than I do Pitts/Chicago.

Oilers alrdy ahead of Islanders... lol. Tavares is a beast but that's pretty much it for them. Oil have several can't miss prospects..
All you see now is ppl talking about Schneider if they're lookin for a goalie, but me I wish my leafs would get Bernier out of LA. I think he's going to be the real deal, even better than Schneider.

Well I think its pretty much guaranteed that the Oilers will become a great team down the line. You cant really compare them to the Islanders since the Islanders don't have the plethora of young top prospects that the Oilers have. Remember that it didn't take Chicago and Pitt a couple seasons to become and elite team. In terms of goal tending there is always the off-season and trade deadline to acquire a young goalie with upside, instead of getting a veteran who will only play for a few seasons.
I'm curious as to why you want the Leafs to get Bernier though, I don't think goal tending is a problem for them atm, despite their recent slump.

Indeed it was quite painful having most of our top players out. Having RNH back is nice, damn that cocky look of his when he scores a goal... always makes me think he wants to say "ezpz"
Also this stat taken from wikipedia of players getting 8+ points in one game "The most recent player to do so was Sam Gagner of the Edmonton Oilers, who scored eight points against the Chicago Blackhawks on February 2, 2012; Gagner's 8-point night was also the first 8-point game for a player since the 1980s."
Kovalchuk got his first Devils hat trick tonight against the Sabres. The last goal, Parise had a breakaway on an empty net but passed back to Kovalchuk to get him the hat trick. He got pressured and the puck eventually got cleared but the Sabres gave it away cheaply to Parise who deflected it to Kovy for the hatty.
Trying to follow the NHL in the USA without cable(or pirating) is so hard :C. The only game I've seen this season has been in person, so I really don't understand what any of the teams are like except for Phoenix. I honestly can't wait for the offseason, and hopefully there will be a few games on before the Stanley Cup :D
