In today's league there are too many gutless cowards doing knee-on-knees and elbows to the head to settle their differences. The knee on knee, or lowballing as I like to call it is a direct result of the watch the headshots. We knew it would come to that. I must say every series seems to have a fair share of cheap shots and questionable hits, but that is what makes it playoff hockey. The amount of room you get is severely limited. I dont know, I've never seen as many cheap intent-to-injure plays as in the first round of these playoffs. The only series where something extremely stupid hasnt happened yet has been the Vancouver one, but probably because Kessler is too busy practicing for his summer Olympics starting role on the American diving team.

This game was a disgrace to the sport of hockey. Goals, after-the-whistle 'discussions' and solid plays and checks were on the agenda but the penguins had more to come. The first incident comes when Schenn delivers a solid hit on Paul Martin. Although the hit might have been penalized (charging), Martin gets up and game keeps going until Aaron Asham takes it upon himself to scold Brayden Schenn. Instead of doing what any other honorable NHL player would have done, dropping the gloves and solving this in a fight, he has the bright idea to cross-check Schenn in the throat sending him to the ice. Asham followed this up with a punch on the back of the head of the defenseless player. Taking into consideration that Schenn was already afflicted by concussion earlier this season, the actions by Asham should be severely punished by the commissioner of player safety, Brendan Shanahan. Later in the third period, Pittsburgh's James Neal delivered a blindside hit on recruit Sean Couturier. Couturier was trying to exit the zone but lost control of the puck leaving it behind him. While Couturier was looking over his left shoulder to locate the puck which was already several feet behind, Neal was approaching and lifted himself from the ice to check the defenseless recruit. Couturier crumbled onto the ice and only got up several minutes later. It should be noted there was 2 full seconds elapsed between the time Couturier lost the puck and Neal hit him. After a bit of yapping and skirmish, play resumed and Neal nearly delivered another hit to the head of Giroux. Following this was a major skirmish between the two teams. Throughout the whole game, Crosby was doing his usual provocative nonsense to then send his minions to defend him. Coward. I do hope Brendan Shanahan will have the balls to suspend these 2 players as their actions were reckless and useless to a good game of hockey. I do hope the penguins will have the honor of salvaging their reputation for the games to come because right now they are my most hated team on the circuit. Edit: I did see the knee on knee penalty and it was pretty bad but that's something that was tolerated during regular season... so I won't make a big deal out of it (although it is a bad thing and should also be cleaned out of the play). ps: I am a habs fan, so this is not just a flyers fan ranting but a hockey fan wanting to enjoy some good playoff hockey.

Sidney Crybaby has been like this since peewee. I have a few cousins that played against him and he often did that too. Would whine at refs during peewee games when he didn't get the call he wanted. A fairly good chunk of Nova Socia acctually DOESN'T like him.

Asham will get suspended. The Neal hit was clean. This is what playoff hockey is all about and emotions are definitely taking over. The refs definitely have to clean it up faster.

That Rangers/Sens game and this Philly/Pens game were some of the worst games (dirty wise, but some pretty fuckin amazing hockey) Ive seen. I can't believe players have the guts to do some of the stuff they are doing. You know why they have the guts? Cause Shanahan will only give them a game or two no big deal. They really need to implement tougher suspensions on players because as you can see, nobody gives a shit about the consequences.

This just takes so much of the skill out of the game because players can get away with anything, and when you can get away with anything and you're playing hard, not very hard to take the puck away from the skilled players. It wins you games, but this its the type of hockey they were trying to get away from at the lock out. If they could fine players more then $2500 they wouldn't need to suspend then. A $30,000 fine would do alot more to deter a player then a one game suspention. Also not allow teams to re-emburse fines Hit then harder in the pocket book and watch the rest just disappear

However he didn't have the puck for a long while and Neal launched himself in the air prior to impact on Couturier. As for the 2nd hit, finally found a replay and it was simple interference, Giroux fell awkwardly but was ok so no foul there. Anyway, I would expect a suspension (1 game) to send a message but that won't happen. We've seen stuff that was much less dangerous get some games in the regular season. But again, I can see why you'd disagree since the NHL is so keen on "Letting the players play" and not hand out suspensions were it is deserved in the playoffs (Weber lulz). Hopefully we'll get a good hockey game from both teams on Wednesday, suspension or not.. A little bit of hate is never bad, but nobody wants it when it goes too far. Edit: /facepalm on Carkner's joke suspension. Edit #2: When will the NHL finally understand suspensions don't mean shit without real sanctions. If someone is hurt on the play, they should be suspended for the amount of games Shanahan decides plus the number of games the hurt player couldn't play.
