Didn't we just blow/blackhole their brainogizmodudes at the end of x-com 1? It's probably a case of winning that battle wasn't enough to actually win the war. It's quite possible XCOM won their little skirmishes but were outmaneuvered politically. Or the aliens just returned with overwhelming force.

That was the vibe I got from the story in game at least.

I'm curious if psi training will be available from the start of the sequel, i.e. the original XCOM's research survives in any fashion.

I loved making my soldiers look like the badasses they are. This is one of the very few games where I don't give a damn about DLC. Imma buy em all when/if they release them.

Even if it does they can't exactly build a new chamber underground without any materials. If there is some stocked up underground lair of doom instead of a measly cave that the aliens somehow don't know about then I will be disappointed.

Frankly, its kind of annoying seeing people complain about the story of what we know so far for Xcom 2 when Enemy Unknown/Within had little to no story to begin with. Aliens show up to invade Earth and for what reasons? Absolutely no god damn clue until the very last mission. Its should be all about the gameplay because that is where it shines. The more they can add and change things up the better. I'm also excited how the tables have turned and instead of defending attacks from the Aliens we are gonna be doing the attacking(hopefully) like guerilla warfare and being on the move with our base. I wonder if they've learned some things from the Long War mod because we all know they know about it lol

Woulb be nice to be able to plan and execute strikes against the aliens/bad humans, instead of only reacting to their attacks.

I hope they aren't inspired to try to write deeper ones for the sequel.

also iirc Firaxis said the ''Volunteer'' survived so he/she might be relevant.

Especially if bgm worked perfectly together with an alien just shuffling around near a soldier but still in the darkness and you had no idea where they are just that its close somewhere. I remember how angry I was when Warcraft 2 told me "Orcs won". Yeah, UFO defense and TftD had amazing music for that sort of feeling. In XCOM:EU/EW, it's more of an "action-y" combat song, rather than the foreboding song of a thousand dead rookies. I don't mind it but I would love it if there was some sort of way to make that type of music work within the game. I think that'd require patrolling, active aliens though, instead of pods that aren't activated. That made half of the suspense of the original, since you'd never know when you were going to get shot at while exploring the landscape.

Actually, when I think about it, the whole pod leader/navigator makes sense and I hope we see that in the base game.
