Pre ordered this XCOM today, man i cant wait. Hmm this is a funny statement. If you liked the original so much shouldn't you be preordering something more similar to it? Arrrgh, that was exactly what I planned to do (though I'm probably too much of a craven to play on nightmare right away). Since I live in the EU and won't get the game until Oct 11 everyone will be like "meh, somebody already did that" :D

I just hope the game will really be challenging as they say it will be... With all the way too easy games being released these days i could use a good challenge (in a single player game anyway)

Getting western version of Valkyria Chronicles vibes a little which is a good thing for me. Is there any story in this game or is the entire game more skirmish like?

Poll: What difficulty will you choose? Classic + Iron Man (7) Classic (4) Normal + Ironman (2) Normal (1) Impossible (0) Impossible + Iron Man (0) 14 total votes Your vote: What difficulty will you choose? (Vote): Normal I'm going Classic + Ironman. Sure, I'll probably have to restart but then I get to constantly improve and refine through the games and marvel at what an accomplished XCOM Manager guy I have become. edit: not sure why I wrote Iron man differently.

Getting western version of Valkyria Chronicles vibes a little which is a good thing for me. Is there any story in this game or is the entire game more skirmish like? The demo is essentially the tutorial missions which are entirely skip-able in the full game. The default difficulty setting is also easy in the demo. (It can only be changed to harder difficulties in the .ini files. To answer your question, the developers tried to balance an open ended experience with their own personal narrative. So there probably will be some story/cut scenes. But they wanted the players own personal narrative to still exist along side their over arching one.

Well they plan to publish their first beta version on same date new X-com is coming out. I would guess they have a good enough version for this. The project had a successful kickstarter 6+ months ago where they raised 150 000+ $. On that kickstarter page you can a link to download demo and see how the game looked before the kickstarter. I only played that demo, but considering it, money they raised through kickstarter and time that passed from then beta should be pretty good. At least the music in demo seemed more similar to UFO1 then what this new X-Com is going to have.
