When I start without tutorial everything is ok but instead of flying back to base I fly to the north pole. And then all of my missions are in the north pole. Or something. I dunno honestly. I also can't promote troops and the lady keeps yelling at me to promote troops.
Guess they didn't think anyone would try without tutorial.
I tried the tutorial, didn't have problems. Maybe you should try to reinstall the game.
Ive reinstalled 6 times already. Also still looking for an FPS fix. And Im also getting horrendous audio popping and stuttering.
What kind of computer do you have? Did you try the pirated version with steam off?
i5-2500k, 7970.
I get about 8 FPS. It starts out fine, like 200 FPS, and then gradually goes down over time with a lot of hissing and popping.
Temps are fine, everything is fine on my end other games run fine for example.
And ive tried about every version you can name.
Did you turn vsync off or on? Try on if it is off. I know Path of Exile has overheating problems if you leave Vsync off.
But whatever it is, they will fix it in time. Play something else and come back few weeks later. Also I hope you contacted their support and told them about your problem.
Also I know some games have problems if you use custom setting in your graphics card drivers. Try putting all of it to default or game controlled.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the game though, a few minor things to nag about, but overall a solid entry for the XCOM series.
Those were never fully implemented. Firaxis has said they're considering getting them functional and patching them in.

I dont really have anything custom. And its the same with vsync on or off. Though with it off it tends to hasten the degeneration.

This isn't true. Abduction Missions no longer happen if you shoot every Abductor class UFO down, which requires global scanning coverage and fighter coverage of course. My normal playthrough ended with me losing most of my top team due to carelessness and having to "farm" UFOs to rank up my newbies. I had coverage on all remaining countries, the hyperwave scanner thing and more money and resources than I could use. In the many months I had to fastforward through, I never had a single abduction mission, but lots of UFO crash missions from crashed Abductor UFOs.
Hmm... according to this thread on official forums being able to shoot down UFOs on terror and abduction missions is possible (i.e. the game does in fact generate those UFOs before showing you the abduction/terror mission and if you shoot all of them down there will be no abduction mission or if you shoot some you will have less locations to choose from), but those UFOs are not detectable by default. I wonder why.

I read somewhere (think it was a mod that enabled the option to shoot down those UFOs), that this would make the game considerably harder, especially in the beginning. Since when you don't manage to shoot down all the UFOs you get a panic level raise for ignoring/missing the UFO as well the a panic raise for the abduction. It is an interesting option nevertheless though.
Currently you can't intercept multiple targets at once, only one at a time (at least I tried that once, when I had two UFOs on my screen, but it wouldn't let me launch the second interceptor, up until the point where the first UFO was shot down).
just a word of warning, make sure you don't send out an interceptor while another interceptor or the dropship is in the air
causes your game to hang at the globe screen after you finish the dropship mission (something to do with the interceptor being in the air but the triggering event not being visible anymore)

Feels like they rushed the strategic part, or changed their mind about it near the end of the development :-\ Building satellite/fighter coverage is a fun mechanic but with no meaningful UFO activity going on it just feels empty. Most people are just launching satellites near the end of month to instantly lower the panic for the countries about to quit XCOM.
I wish they were more open about supporting modding :-\ I feel that with just a tiny bit of modding this game could be drastically improved.

Well if you are really desperate you can try stuff like uninstall current graphic drivers and then install older ones. I usually don't have newest drivers installed and have no problems with games. Or if you got older drivers, get new ones.
But probably the best would be to come back later. I am sure Firaxis will care to fix the problems in the game. It has been out only 1 week, they need time to fix stuff.
BTW, is your computer a desktop or laptop? Laptop usually have problems with different games where desktops don't even when they got "same" components. "Same" means although both would say i5-2500k and 7970 they are not really the same.
Damn, just encountered the first serious bug and ofc it happens on impossible ironman when, after many tries, things are finally looking good in the 2´nd mission. During alien activity the screen just froze and I had to ctrl+alt+del.
Btw if you think I´m joking about getting a decent run in the 2´nd mission with all squadies intact just try impossible ironman for yourself, lol.
About them psionic powers. Dr. Vahlen says that dudes with high will are more likely to be gifted. Is there a minimum will or rank required to get psychic powers at all? Or could I buy a dozen new recruits, have them tested and level up one who has the gift? How rare are psychic powers anyway? I've had my best 5 or 6 soldiers tested and found powers only on my assault colonel. I'd like to have more psi warriors because the abilities are powerful and fun to use.

Out of about 15 soldiers i tested, 3 were gifted (normal difficulty in case that matters) so it doesn't seem to be too rare but not exactly common either. Your primary squad members might all not be gifted.
I just send all of them through the psi-lab in groups containing 1 or 2 members of my A-team and some low-rank rookies without looking at their Will scores. This way I have my main team tested relatively quickly without sacrificing the effectiveness of my main squad. Typically you'll find 1 or 2 folks in your main squad to be psi-gifted. More would be a bit OP, since psi-powers are rather strong.

Those are all desktop parts. Laptop parts have an "M" on them.
And yeah Im not altering my drivers. When Im already using the most up to date drivers, it ceases to be my problem.
So I was going pretty damn strong on my Classic Ironman run. Lost only 1 really leveled soldier (and some rookies/squaddies), and was approaching the "can't lose" phase. Had half/half plasma/laser weapons, titan armor researched, just no money to buy them till the end of the month, almost full satellite coverage/good panic levels everywhere.
I get a landed abductor mission, so I send in pretty much my full best squad, minus one leveled up assault for a low level assault I was leveling as a backup. Cookie cutter squad, 2 snipers, 2 assaults, 1 heavy, 1 support.
Right on my first turn, after advancing 4 of my troops (like 3 feet really), a cyberdisk, 2 drones and a muton (wtf mix) spawn in the MIDDLE OF MY DAMN SQUAD, which of course is still pretty clustered up since it's 5 secs into the mission. Not only that but the muton randomly takes a free shot and knocks most of the hp off my good assault. I have 2 soldiers left to go. 1 sniper + support. Manage to kill muton, but cyberdisk puts the hurt on next turn. No one dies but I use up 2 heals + have 1 sniper at half life.
I advance, run into a squad of mutons. Kill 2 of them pretty easily (take one painful shot behind cover on my support), 3rd one runs away. Somehow, 3rd one either runs into a wormhole or some new one spawns right next my colonel sniper (unwounded thankfully) AND gets a free shot again. Knocks him down to 2 hp. I choose to heal up my support and be extra careful with my snipers and fucking crawl around the rest of the map, overwatching every other goddamn soldier in case I get warped on again, since I have no more heals, and still have sectoid commanders to deal with. One more muton sqaud, but kill all three with no damage. Get to the back "command room" of the UFO, where sectoids usually are. Array troops around the door into the room. Open door to find all three of them standing RIGHT behind the door instead of on the lower floor (does this happen normally?). Rocket + mass fire kills them all before psionic buttfuckery can begin. Mission doesn't end. I hunt all over the place, super carefully since I have a half dead squad, no heals, no rockets, and am expecting 3 mutons to fall on my head at any moment. After going back about half the map, again IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TURN, 1(ONE) muton charges into the room I'm in (from outside of the room, no vision trigger from me), gets his turn, shoots at my half dead colonel sniper, misses (thank god), and gets owned. Mission ends.
It's pretty much useless to test rookies for psi potential since it looks at willpower and your guys get more willpower as they rank up. Seems to me that they have to have 80 or 90+ willpower to be gifted. Don't know about that one tho.
Another thing: If you have highranked squadmembers that have survived since the beginning they probably won't be gifted, since you get an upgrade to +will/rank gained in the middle stages of the game. I had a sniper that had been with me since the begginning, who only had 70 will because he hadn't benefitted from that upgrade, having gained his ranks before it came into effect.
Is there a drawback if I wait a extended amount of time to capture an alien ? I got the order like 2 months and did nothing towards it, I take my time to build everything up (soldiers/satellites and researchs)

I had a gifted squaddie with something like 50 will. I think it's set once you hire the guy, not when he is tested. The gifted guy that triggered the last mission for me had ~70 will and once i gave him psi armor, he was able to start the last mission.

In my second run i haven't captured an alien for the first 4 month while i got satellites up everywhere. It's better to progress slowly imho.
