The problem might be that just as my troops were going for a mission a interception occured, so now when I finish a mission, the game tries to rezoom to the map, and it just freezes there. God dammit. Probably won't play it again, as I just lost a bunch of time invested in this playthrough, Go into the save file folder, right click->properties->old versions or something. Basically, try restoring the save file to an older date, if possible.

I got called on a council mission as I was deploying to an abduction zone and it glitched, making most of my soilders "stack" on the same spots. I tried clearing the units out, reloading the save, restarting the game. None of these things worked. It really sucks.. .anyone have a fix for this?

I have a question: Does anyone have a good way to play this map? I´ve tried going to the left which always triggers aliens and to the right but that isnt much good either. I have never ever completed a mission on this stupid map.

If you are feeling especially brave send 2 right, 1 left (but wide so aliens don't see him) and keep 1 in middle as bait. That way you can flank from two side and have better reach with grenades. Also you don't need to enter into house through first door/window from left or right. You can try to go around more as well to catch aliens in flank.

But others are smooth sailing unless the RNG hates you or the game bugs out. For example, there's this lovely map that features two elevated areas with a depression filled with half-cover cars. That mission in particular is a turkey shoot. On the other extreme, there's that mission in a cemetery...I don't think I've ever seen someone finish that mission that early on in the game without taking unacceptable losses. Of course, you could simply hire 6 HP recruits. That tones down the difficulty substantially. I definitely know what you mean about the maps. My personal favorite once I've got at least a Squad-Sight sniper is the map which is just a long, thin street. Sniper sits way at one end behind a full-cover Bus Stop, killing everything, all the time, without moving. The cemetery is pretty bad (oh god one alien just cleared my cover - I'm fucked) but personally I agree with the above poster that the garden/office building map is just awful. Then the Liquor Store/Warehouse map also seem pretty likely to fuck me up.

Use the buildings (but stay outside if you can), rush to them and get flanking shots from irrumping from doors (using the sounds) or grenading, don't engage if you don't need to. It's to be honest, if not the map i consider the easiest start on impossible, i would say it makes on top 3 easilly. The only maps on impossible that are really really BAD, are both cementeries and one of the highway map (the one that you don't have full cover till you reach the trucks). One of the cementeries because there is almost no way to get out of LOS and bugs, the another is doable tho, but can be a pain in the ass and escalate quickly since you don't really have any durable cover even to hunker down. The highway one i am speaking about it's not "impossible" or "really hard", but it takes tons of patience sneaking (i use to go to the truck on the far right, withouth spotting anything, from there you can start getting high cover easilly) it's just "unfun" to me. Most maps are about finding some outside the box strats. That's the problem when you start from normal/classic difficulty, the game is played entirely different on impossible early game. Go to the right, babystepping and overwatching, on a straight congoline following the border of the map. When you are in front of the building, TAKE A LOT OF CARE TO DON'T DRAW LOS INSIDE OF IT, and start placing soldiers close to that wall, from there you can start moving babystepping and overwatching to get atleast the first shots. Use the walls to hide out of LOS, and the doors to surprise aliens and get easy flank shots (or nade + shot). Don't engage into firefights, and if needed, split your team to be able to get better flanking positions. Don't spam overwatch if you are going to stay on line of sight of the aliens, but hunker down. I love that map, it's the easiest for me on impossible :d

Got my first terror mission at the end of the second month. Having lasers is absolutely crucial and the only soldiers that didnt had it just yet were my heavies. I lost my only support to the very last chryssalid but otherwise the mission went great. Assaults with scatter laser are perhaps the best units for terror missions. After 2 months I am still alive and kicking though I have no supports above squaddie rank. I now have heavy lasers as well and are just a few days away from carapace armor. First however, I have to do an abduction mission. I hope there are no mutons.....

How hard is this game? Usually I play through singleplayer games on the highest difficulty, would this be a good idea in this case? Keep in mind that I never played this kind of genre before :D I can manage games like Mass Effect and Dragonage on highest difficulty, Baldurs Gate gave me some trouble but it was fun as hell. My tolerance for dying is pretty high, so dying 15 times in a row shouldn't be a problem :D Should i try hardest difficulty or is it smarter to go for a lower setting because highest will simply be impossible for a noob like me?

Start on classic ironman. It gives a nice challenge for new players where impossible will just roll you over. ALWAYS pick the ironman option. Once you´ve completed classic you can try impossible. This is where I am atm. Have around 200 attempts on impossible so its no joke.
