Supports are great man, i can't live withouth them xD. Sprinter is great, medikits are great, supression is awesome, +40 defense smoke bomb are amazing, pockets awesome for medikit + arc thrower (since they are the faster, they are the easier to pull off stuns), and more more healing power.
They are simply amazing and still got the best aim aside snipers. They aren't killy, but are fine.
Dacruise you don't need +4 sats, you don't need to start on X, but it's the most optimal start. As simple as that, having the cash to maintain your upgrade/building as an optimal rate and getting 2+ UFOs since month 2 to get more materials is the best you could ask for. You can either take it as the advice it is, or not, and play on more difficult starting areas. Asia, Africa or South America are crappy starts for I/I.

One support is good but more then that you don't want to have. When shit hits the fan their offensive output is almost useless.
I play on C/I and just recently I did a supply ship mission and found myself at one moment fighting 2 mutons, 1 beserker, and 4 heavy floaters in one turn while next turn came a Sectopod and 2 drones. And turn after that 2 Heavy mutons appeared. I got caught out of position and enemies came from both sides. My support did almost nothing in those turns (except heal after it). What saved my ass was 3 colonel assaults and 1 lt. assault. The Heavy on my team also helped a lot with removing cover.

I was pretty sure when I tried it did, but looks like no now. Ill try to look if I find if there was some other that was disabled.

It doesn't remove the alien cut scenes. Escape sometimes work for that, but not everytime. It's just weird

The thing I found with supports is that while they aren't as useful as someone who actually does damage for the majority of the game, the alien base assault and temple ship assault are just so long, that even if all you're doing is taking a bit of unlucky/unavoidable damage (grenades...) you'll end up low on health by the end unless you've brought enough supports with enough medkit upgrades. Plus on ironman, once you get the "Higher ranks are more likely to be critically wounded" upgrade combined with the resurrection medkits, you're room for error gets significantly larger.

Ok, I think I'm done with the vanilla, in the end the game is just fucking stupid. What is the point of investing in tech early if it amps up the difficulty immediately? I'm less than 2 months in and sacrifice everything for quick carapace armor -> immediately run into chrysalids, muttons and floaters in the next mission, all at the same time too. Wasn't even the first time.
Gotta wait for all the necessary mods/patches.

I hate to say this, but it sounds like someone just got OWNT!
My advice, guy, is to read your way thru this thread backwards; lots of good tips and discussion amongst people who have beaten classic and/or impossible ironman.

is it even rly true? the enemies unit composition is being altered by how fast you research stuff?
So i can just research nothing and all i get are sectoids? :o or at least I can play more Missions before Mutons come?

It is absolutely not true.
My concrete experience:
Day 1 to first council mission - pure sectoids
First council mission to third abduction mission - mix in thin men
Third abduction mission to first terror - mix in floaters
First terror - enter cryssalids (terror missions and Alien Base only).
May and onwards - enter mutons and cyberdisks, remove thin men and sectoids (thin men still appear on council missions). Note that sectoid cadavers are therefore not really replaceable so selling them is a "last resort" option at any point as you will need a lot of the aim boosts.
Heavy mutons and heavy floaters - can't remember when they start appearing
Sectopods - lategame With respect to psionic aliens, the Outsider will keep appearing until you research it, then it is gone forever and replaced by Sectoid Commanders, which get replaced by Ethereals after Overseer UFO. It's generally good advice to wait on advancing the "main story" as Sectoid Commanders are deadly (unless you REALLY need the -panic from alien base perk). Likewise for Ethereals; you ideally want your 2nd squad of high-will colonels that got benefit of the +will on promotion academy upgrade for their full careers to be ready to go before progressing the story this far.

I was still reeling a bit from losing most of my high ranked guys in unfortunate missions (ie I just played terrible + some RNG) and had to go secure a crashed Large Scout ship with only a couple "nicknamed guys" and a bunch of Squaddies against an Ethereal, a Sectopod and a bunch of Mutons (every kind basically).
I Mind Control a Muton Elite to draw fire and to score some hits if I'm lucky. The other Elites one-shot that guy (crit) - Two of my Squaddies panic...
FUCKING WHAT?! *flip table*
Thank RNG nothing extremely bad happened after that (my Sniper only left my Support (ironically, the mind controller) on 1 hp because the sniper only did a 15 damage crit). I can't even imagine what went through in their heads when they panicked.

"Oh my god, did you see how fast they killed that giant alien thing? WAAHH, i am way more squishy than that guy, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! And they saw through our mindcontrol of him instantly, they know where we are, RUN!"

I guess lol.
Finished the game on Classic Ironman just now. The final mission was pretty awesome.
Ending spoiler warning:
+ Show Spoiler +The ending wasn't good, at all. I got really interested when the XCOM crew started to think about what humanity would do with all the technology they got from the invasion. Then there was the really good pacing with the last mission, explaining the different kind of aliens and how they failed to obtain "the something" and how the human race is the next race to try to get "the something", ending with the Ethereals themselves not being able to get "the something". I also really liked how the last boss was all like "What are you without us?!" but the ending went spiraling down after that.
I wanted to get the answers to the questions: "What is going on with the humans after the invasion when they have all the cool tech?", "What is "the something"?" and "What is humanity without "the greater alien power / whatever" and why did the last boss say that?". Game didn't deliver. That or I missed something.
Either a bad ending or a sequel coming

They stole the storyline from childhoods end by Arthur C Clarke no doubt. Well inspired by it anyways.

Everyone steals from everyone to a certain extent.

This is one hell of an awesome game, I think my first ironman save is fucked though, got destroyed by 3 turns with enemies randomnly showing up in the middle of my squad, 2 heavy floater groups and a sectopod was enough, I got totally owned!
Don't mind though, if I can't finish this one I'll just start over, the tension the game creates means it's never a waste to start a playthrough!

Just had the sickest streak of missed shots ever! In fact it was so bad that I may think its a bug.
My support missed 2x 95% shots in a row My sniper missed 3x 59% shots in a row (less supiscious, I know but it all adds up with the other missed shots) My rookie missed 2x 60% shots in a row Finally my heavy first missed a 78% shot and then 2x 84% shots.
All this happened over a few turns with zero hits and only misses. Ofc that didnt stop the aliens from hitting my troops.
I find it hard to believe that the rng can turn out this bad against me. Ofc I could win the lottery as well I suppose.....NOT!

Did you break a bunch of cover while all this shooting was going on? A 95% chance to hit when they're in full cover just means you're going to break the cover.
