Square Cinematics look so beautiful. God I love the music towards the end, Soken is a legend.
I hope Ala Mhigo isn't like downplayed because it seems like so much of it is on the eastern continent. I'm quite surprised, I would have never thought we'd be going so far so fast.
I hope they do Ala Mhigo justice. It feels like the eastern part is so big, we'd be liberating Ala Mhigo by level 66 or something silly.
I'm a little sad that dancer wasn't added, but red mage looks cool as shit so I'm ok with it. As for Ala Mhigo, I was wondering how they were going to make hanging out in a desert region for an entire expansion interesting ;D I'm sure the far east will have some beautiful locales. I'm excited to see it. They teased the far east for like 10+ years in ffxi and they never ended up making an expansion for it. Finally!
I'm late to the party, but I recently started soloing some Palace of the Dead on summoner and was the first on my data center to reach floor 160. Also ended up with the highest score across all data centers for SMN. Pretty happy about it even though it's only for vanity's sake. It was stressful as all hell on the high tier floors but that also made it fun.
Anyone still alive? :O Lots of important class changes just got announced for Stormblood. Taking away the accuracy stat and healer damage scaling off of mind are the two biggest ones for me. No more melding accuracy materia onto all my healer gear!
New mechanics are literally all random chance based effects based around spamming two spells we try to never use. The whole class is being rebuilt around the playstyle of bad players who were very much playing it incorrectly.
Role action slots are now all used by our staple skills, meaning we essentially lose all our cross-role slots except one which is 100% locked in for Swiftcast. No Eye for an Eye. No new buffed Surecast. No silly Rescue fun.
The only actual good stuff we got was Thin Air and the reduced base c/d of Assize. It in no way makes up for everything we lost. Not even in terms of strength/balance, but just in terms of having interesting things to do from a game design perspective. It seems like we just don't anymore.
I think I'm more concerned about the complete lack of utility for WHM. Idk, WHM could be good, but I think it will be dependent on the encounter design. If there's no content that makes WHM's throughput advantageous, its a bad pick.

I feel pretty confident that if there is a unified voice on the issue then SE will be receptive to making changes. Is there a general consensus among WHM on the issue? Do you think it's a class balance issue and it'll make WHM underpowered or is it just a change in playstyle that you'll have to adjust for?
I'm rather disappointed in SMN on first look, if only because I really, really enjoyed being the king of AOE. I suppose a balance adjustment was sorely needed, but damn, still sad :p
The consensus amongst all healers, not just WHM, is that WHM is turning sharply from being the worst healer but reasonable (3.57) to being absolutely garbage. It terms of balance it's going to be extremely terrible. Significantly worse than 3.0 AST, for example.
But balance is balance, it comes and goes. The main concern, in my opinion, is how terrible the game design is. You can't adapt to it as a new playstyle. It's just straight built around playing WHM incorrectly. It's built around that guy who stands in the back chain casting Cure 1 on the tank with their eyes closed for 30 minutes straight. And the thing is, it's currently so weak that even playing like that it's still weak garbage. We're talking if you reduce the entire mechanic down to potency per GCD and assume the highest value payoffs it works out to be effectively a potency buff on Cure 1 and 2 that's in the single digits.
Playing WHM properly you will not notice the lily mechanic at all. Not even a bit. It might as well be deleted. I just can't see how they built this big deal class defining mechanic around something we don't even do. It's like building SMN around idling through GCDs to reinforce their identity as a pet class. Or giving DRGs a buff that goes away when they stand in AoE. It just makes no sense. People don't play the game like that.
Also, you were never the king of AoE. You were the king of AoE amongst DPS classes. The real king was WHM and we still are! That's not getting taken away!
I was thinking about playing the game again after a bit off, haven't played since the Nidhogg patch dropped.
Only ever played BLM, and I heard they were making Enochian a static buff which I'm mixed about: To me, it was fun and challenging to make the most out of the buff by having to adapt your rotation to fit every fight, but at the same time, getting randomly fucked out of 50% of your damage because you got targeted by a mechanic or there's an invincibility phase you can't play around always sucked.
I'm not a big fan of mmorpg games, nevertheless i played wow vanilla on a private server in 2016 my very first time, for sure i was not able to level to 60 because I'm a lone wolf and I dont like the talk (teamspeak) with other human beeings while i play this game, chatting however, is ok, the server received a shut down. My question is, is ff14 a little bit different from other mmorpg games? I'm interested in the world of final fantasy as i played them all from I - X. Can you play this game alone, I don't like to grind hours and hours for item x or y, the storyline is very important for me and as said before, the aim is to reach the end alone, is this possible?

FFXIV has a great Single player experience imo, Plenty of stuff and exploring to do, but you will have to do some dungeons with people from time to time to progress the story. Lots of cutscenes and a better storyline than most mmos. I'm sure you'll also enjoy roaming around the maps and doing some random coop mini quests here and there too! As a longtime FF fan you will enjoy. It really felt like a true Final Fantasy to me. Soundtrack is insanely beautiful too.

This sounds pretty damn nice, yes, I love everything about FF and thank you, will give this game a try.

The amount of fanservice in the game is obscene, it's worth it just to buy and play for a couple months then cancel and maybe come back after a few patches.

Definitely do the free trial first. You can level to 20 I believe before having to decide to continue and pay (you can still play at 20, but you gain zero exp and eventually quests require higher).
It definitely has a lot of fan service and nods to many of the other Final Fantasys. But I love it all the same. The story is quite long as well. The only thing I disliked about my leveling experience is that the story at the end of the original game before the expansion took over took quite a while (like 140 quests or something, although some of these happen very quickly), so getting into the expansion took a bit more time than maybe desired.
I do recommend finding a FC (FF14 equivalent to guilds in wow), even if you don't talk too much, they give nice buffs if its a leveling FC like +exp/+exp to trade class/+exp to gathering class/etc. It isn't a huge buff, but its nice non the less to have while leveling. The one I am in has a teamspeak, but doesn't require you to use it at all since it is a very casual FC (most people are on break until next expac anyway).
And as stated, the music is fantastic. I love all of it, and they play many tracks from old games as well.

The storyline is AMAZING. It's one of the draws of keeping your sub and receiving the patch updates. However, there is filler content in the original baseline game you will have to play through, and you can do most of the story content alone, however there will be several instances where you need to use matchmaking to do story dungeons or story bosses. There's tons of fan service in the game, they even incorporated Triple Triad and the Gold Saucer into XIV.

This game is the first one since I was a kid where I actually bought the soundtracks because it was so good. It's really remarkable how much beautiful and memorable music is in the game.

Oh yeah, even when Im taking a break from the game, I always pay attention to any new music that comes with a new patch, it's really really good.
To be honest, if your not a MMO gamer I don't know if FFXIV will be for you.
See how you do with the main questline in a trial. Some say that FFXIV felt like a real FF, I completetly disagree. The main story does not even match the worst true FF games imo. Sad to say but I've found it true. They don't even take it serious at many parts.
Yes lots of fan service, but you got to get thru the main quest line before reaching the decent content. Main quest is not challenging nor fun, nor is the story very interesting (at least until high lvls) and lasts for weeks of play time.
TBH, the entire ARR storyline is very poorly written, little to no significant character development. Filled with fetch quests, and even the NPC's joke about how silly it is that you are taking food orders when your preparing to fight primals.
I find the group content in FFXIV to be amazing, but the main questline was horrible to get through. got 5 friends to play w/ me slightly over a year ago, only 1 of them made it to end game.
I really don't know why so many say the story is great, none of my freinds thought it was interesting either. Heavensward was "okay" but not the quality of basically any other FF game.
