The team is fine, but fuck them forever. Chip Kelly coaches Oregon. Most of the notre dame players aren't assholes and they graduate 97% of them without bullshit majors like turf science. The reason they get so much media attention is because people either hate them or love them but everybody watches them, which means big ratings. That to me doesn't seem like a legitimate reason for hating a team.
I was actually at the FSU vs. ND game in 93 where we beat them, so I wouldn't exactly call myself a new college football fan, I just get tired of the irrational hate. If a major television network like NBC offered your favorite college team an exclusive deal they would take it in a heart beat.

I watched that game on television when I was 7 years old. I was raised to hate Notre Dame. My mom hates Notre Dame. My dad hates Notre Dame. My moms mom really fucking hated Notre Dame.
But I don't. It's not that I like them either, I just don't give a fuck. I'm really pulling for Manti Te'o to win the heisman and the better ND in the polls does the better his chances. I don't know why some people hate ND. The "they're always on!!" thing doesn't click with me. Oklahoma State is always on but unless they're playing a cool team I just put it on a different channel. There are always more than enough games to fill two televisions worth. Just my 2¢

Apologize for the mixup, I was posting that late at night.

Yeah, and it'd make sense for people to hate my team when they get constant coverage despite having consecutive mediocre to losing seasons just because they're Notre Dame and they were the gold standard 30 years ago. It's not irrational to hate a team because you're tired of hearing about them even though they suck.
They have a pointlessly inflated fanbase who clings to them because of their "history," most of which have nothing to do with the school. It's like the NCAA version of the Steelers, only the Steelers are usually good.

Yeah, maybe now. Go back a decade and it'd be all 4-4 Notre Dame all the time let's watch Notre Dame and USC and Ohio State ALL DAY EVERY DAY. As obnoxious as the recent SEC dicksucking is, atleast now we aren't confined to whatever the cable provider wants to toss at you and can legitimately watch every game. What you could view wasn't always so easy and Notre Dame got a stupidly unfair majority of airtime, coverage, and praise even when they sucked. It was stupid and I hate them and will forever hate them. I've also never met a Notre Dame fan in person who wasn't an enormous tool, but that's anecdotal.

I believe I heard on the radio-box thing that he stormed out of a team meeting or something, as Mike Leach after the loss on Saturday went on rant about how the team quit, and that they were going to have a meeting that was more than just about football. I don't know how many of them were appropriate but the interview was funny as hell, including, "Utah's not that good, we're not that bad, but they could have beat us by 100"

lol alright so ESPN just had a standard HYPE TO THE MAX commerical for Notre Dame.
PERFECT SEASON ON THE LINE
Notre Dame versus Boston College
That is the equivalent of Oregon versus Colorado. BC is the worst team in the ACC this year and if they score more than once it'll be by divine will. Hype commercials are cool yeah fine whatever but that's ridiculous lol.

Also, how does Notre Dame get a pass for a "tough win," when it was at home against Pitt, a team that lost to Youngstown State, in triple overtime?

ABC probably figures more people will watch the game just hoping ND loses.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/story/_/id/8605756/usc-trojans-fire-student-manager-deflating-game-footballs
LOS ANGELES -- USC fired a student manager for deflating five game balls below regulation levels for the USC-Oregon game last Saturday, the school announced late Wednesday.
The manager, who was not named, admitted to deflating footballs used in the game, according to a report on the school's website. In the report, USC said no coaches, players, staffers or administrators had any knowledge of the manager's actions, which reportedly took place after game officials tested the balls well before kickoff.
Three balls were then found to be in violation of NCAA regulations before the game began, and two more were discovered at halftime, meaning some first-half plays featured slightly deflated footballs.
USC announced in the statement that it had been fined and reprimanded by the Pac-12 office, though the amount of the fine was not specified.
It was not immediately known why the manager deflated the footballs. Underinflated footballs typically travel at a slower speed than fully inflated balls and are thought to be easier to catch and throw.
USC lost to Oregon, 62-51, after trailing, 34-24, at halftime.
USC back to their cheating ways it seems.

See, this is why people hate Notre Dame.

Arguing why they had prime time earlier in the season is fair... But when you are down to 4 teams that are unbeaten (that have a chance at a national championship)... You pretty much have to assume most, if not all, will get prime time.

ESPN sure handled the matter delicately a few minutes ago on air.
"There's no way some frat boy was totally responsible for this. But we have no proof it was Lane Kiffin." x5 They might as well of shouted WE THINK ITS KIFFIN. Except they can't prove it so it's slander. rofl.

May or may not have been Kiffin, but it fits Kiffin's standard MO (just like switching uniforms against lowly Colorado...). Regardless if it was Kiffin acting directly or not there is no way, NONE, that Barkley didn't notice he was being handed soft balls, and he chose to use them anyway, and the QB making that sort of a decision is on the head coach.
|
LOL Lane Kiffin. Says "If anything, this was disadvantageous for Barkeley because he had to use 2 different balls", but then says "Barkeley didn't know he was using two different balls."
|
There is zero chance barkley didn't notice. If anything barkley probably told the student manager to do it.
|
I doubt this will ever go anywhere because it relies on someone admitting to breaking the rules. I've never lived outside of Florida during the winter so I don't have empirical knowledge of what kind of effects cold weather can have on footballs. I don't really want to judge Barkley over something I don't know about. It sounds fishy as hell that he didn't notice but like I said, what do I know.
