In terms of difficulty level This was quite some time ago (Art of War or El Dorado patch), but I found Korea to be on a medium difficulty level. Not a walk in the park but not the hardest challenge out there. My focus was on being on the defensive vs. Japan while slowly eating the Manchurian tribes and eventually other parts of eastern Asia. When Russia arrived to me I started being a bit more cautious however, as they changed opinion back-and-forth a bit.

Retreat paths for armies that have just lost battles will now always properly check if the path is blocked by forts. If you enter battle while in an enemy province with a fort, you will be treated as the attacker in battle and incur that province's terrain penalties.

For reference I've played 79 hours of CK2 and 0 hours of any EU. Use all expansions You have. No reason to hold on. You will be overwhelmed either way, but using all expansion from the start will mean You dont need to relearn things. As to starting country: Ottomans are probably the best (easiest by far), some easy country offering different experiences are also Spain (colonizing and discovering New World), France (military powerhouse sorrounded by enemies/targets), Austria (diplomatic-HRE focus).

Try to secure Personal Unions with Bohemia/Hungary and/or Burgundian Inheritence. Getting one of those three will make Your life much easier. Ottomans and France are Your biggest threats (Poland is dengerous only after they kill Teotonic Order)

Ottomans and France are Your biggest threats (Poland is dengerous only after they kill Teotonic Order) Another good thing to do is to go to war with burgandy and just take their capital, unless they changed it it'll assign their new capital inside the HRE which will give you a huge boost to IA early. another thing is you can do the bug to get part of saxony for free, its really a matter of keeping the states size small while keeping them alive. when reformation hits you want to force convert everyone and force release as many states as you can. its alot harder to do now since you cant get france as an ally, but if you can revoke or at worst pass the reform to stop wars by like 1620~ you should be in great shape to form HRE and crush all of europe. I don't really have time to play it right now, but I've always wanted to... and if this is the best price I'm likely to get, might as well buy now. Im not sure what it is about the game that always made me wanna play it, even if it is simple letters and colors haha. on mine it shows europa default for 9.99 but with everything @ 75% off i dont think youll get much lower. if you dont want to buy all the new expansions but still want an enjoyable experience id recommend art of war + common sense/ rd to el dorado conquest of paradise/wealth of nations?(all 3 are sold in a bundle i think) mare nostrum cossacks and rights of man are fun but not really required(cossacks being my least favorite because the favor system gives me cancer tbh) id say yes and enjoy hours of frustration but hours of enjoyment when the game goes your way!

Only other paradox game I've played is CK2, which I bought last year...only played it once. ... And by once I mean 170 hours in like a month (to be honest it was padded a bit by leaving the game on when leaving the computer and stuff but holy shit addictive).
