It might actually be true one year but I still don't believe it :p Then again not that many good teams in the East. But there's no way the Knicks are better than Miami or Boston. And between Indiana, Philadelphia and Chicago (the biggest unknown at this point), I'm sure at least one other team will be ahead of them too. Miami no, Boston, definitely yes

I highly doubt the Knicks will be top 3 but they could be top defense by the end of the year. They aren't even close to Boston's level and I think Indiana would have killed them in 5 last year. I see them as the #4 seed at best since BKN/Philly(maybe) should be better than them and all are in the same division with Boston. Honestly the Knicks age, terrible back court, and massive hope laying on Kidd/Camby/Raymond Felton (ughh)/Rasheed Wallace/ and Stat being anything besides a diversion with Melo on the court is asking a lot. They looked like shit vs Miami in the playoffs and not all of it had to do with the Heat's superior players. Just too many things need to go right for the Knicks to even dream of top 3.

You forgot to put the Dubs in the Finals prediction bud.
Go GSW!

It takes a full year for rose to heal up that knee, that means he's ganna miss the entire season this year? or just half.

They will reassess roses injury throughout the year, my guess is by the all star break we will have a firm understanding of his timeline for return from injury. It has been predicted that he will be back for the playoffs, but as I said, they will most likely reassess the injury multiple times before they commit him to playing full time again.
He is doing running exercises though, which is a very good sign.

He's doing them with a basketball too! Last week he got the "go-ahead" from doctors to "play" basketball again :D

Lakers gonna be a HUGE threat in the west. I think Kobe is gonna work the most he can to get two more rings in his last 2 years of NBA before he retires. That was be SICKKKK! and I would be so happy for Nash when he finally gets his first ring.
Personally as a JLin fan, I'm rooting for the Houston Rockets, but I want to see Nash get his first ring before he retires.
Go Lakers and Rockets!

Well this sucks (also why I never draft early in FFB)
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8516740/kevin-love-minnesota-timberwolves-star-6-8-weeks-broken-hand
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love will miss the next six to eight weeks after breaking his right hand in a workout on Wednesday.
Kevin Love Kevin Love #42 PF Minnesota Timberwolves
2011-12 STATS
GM55 PPG26.0 RPG13.3 APG2.0 FG%.448 FT%.824
The team made the announcement after practice, saying Love broke the third and fourth metacarpals on his shooting hand during a morning workout.
It's a crushing blow to the Timberwolves, who already will be without star point guard Ricky Rubio for at least the first six weeks while he recovers from a torn ACL in his left knee.
Love is a two-time All-Star who led the team in scoring and rebounding last season. He also played a key role in Team USA's march to the gold medal in the London Olympics.
The injury likely means more playing time for Derrick Williams.

Oh wow, that sucks for Minny--even worse it's his shooting hand.
Has anyone been watching Minny in preseason? I'm intrigued by how Roy looks--is he still effective or is going to be more like post-injury T-Mac?
As for Rose, ACLs normally take at least 9-12 months from my experience but I'm guessing the Bulls are really going to nurse him along. I doubt he'll play at all this year. I can't see a situation where they throw him in the deepend for some misguided playoff push/run. Even if Rose did come back he'd need time to nurse himself back into the demands of NBA basketball.
If I was the Bulls' GM I'd be sitting him for the year and making sure he got a full pre/off-season under his belt.

Well ESPN posted something about the Bulls possibly amnestying Carlos Boozer. The Bulls will probably tank and hope for a top tier Draft pick because even if Rose was healthy they aren't going anywhere with the loss of key bench guys.

Man, it has to suck being a Timberwolves fans, they can never catch a break..

can someone explain the amnesty clause?
so basically the player's salary doesnt go to the luxury or salary cap, but they can be claimed by other teams? but they can still play? if they dont get traded, it's basically free money for the home team?

Hmmm, I really hope this isn't the case. The Bulls still have a pretty decent team and would easily make the playoffs.
I'm really not sure if they could get Thibs on-board either. They'd probably still even maybe make a low seed without Boozer. They're not as good defensively but there's still a lot of depth in their squad.
I'm an advocate to an extent for tanking, but I'd hate for a quality team like the Bulls to do it this year--it'd be a blight on the league IMO.

thx @ kmdandaman
@paper yes and no. The team takes the salary off their books and yes it's taken off the cap. However the amnestied player is on waivers. Teams with cap space can then bid on them to pick them up for any price. The team that wins the bid pays whatever amount they won in the bid and the original team (home team) pays the remaining difference.
So let's say Carlos Boozer is earning 18 mil per year for the next 2 years. The Charlotte Bobcats, Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns all enter a bidding war for him. Also none of them know each others' bid. Lets say Phoenix wins the bid at 4 million. Phoenix now pays 4 million dollars for Carlos Boozer, and Chicago has to pay Boozer $32 million. Boozer gets paid whether he plays or not.
Chicago clears that 18 million per season from their cap space virtually. For all future accounting purposes Boozer is invisible from their cap space. But he really gets paid by Chicago.
Now there are other little hitches that might slightly change things and I haven't read the Cap FAQ in months but I'm pretty sure this is how it goes. Anyone who has better knowledge of it can iron out anything I messed up on.

Well the thing is the Bulls don't want to be just a playoff team. Amnestying Boozer means they don't make it. Taj Gibson can't score as well as Boozer and that bench is weaker now. They can probably make it due to the East still having young teams not ready yet to take the 7th/8th seeds (Cleveland, Detroit, Wizards cuz Wall is done) but not without him.
Remember they lost Ronnie Brewer (NY), Asik(Houston), CJ Watson(Bkn?) AND Korver(Atl).
