This is epic!
Freelancer was my favourite game for several years. Been waiting for something like it ever since but no one has ever done it.
Already pledged. Really hope he raises enough to get the investors interested. A true space sim is what many of us have been wanting for a very long time. Just look at the amount of interest in the FTL kickstarter. Its definitely there.
Looks like the site has been overwhelmed. Site registration is down but you can still pledge. - http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/the-star-citizen-announcement/ "We lost the opportunity to break the first day record, but the race isn’t over yet! We currently stand at $455, 590 raised from 4,564 pledges which is pretty impressive considering the outage we’ve had. Seems everyone wants the RSI Constellation and physical goodies!"

I have been waiting for this game for SO LONG.
Perhaps Valve can work with this man (via Stars of Barathum) and create the the game of the century!
|
If he could make it Freespace 2 with the options of Freelancer and the multiplayer of Jumpgate. I'll be hooked forever.

Over 1 million in 7 days is not bad. There is a letter from Chris on the web site, which can be read http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/a-letter-from-chris-roberts/ Basically they are running crowdfunding on the existing site and adding in kick starter at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen] http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen[/url]
And once the funds raised reach the 2 million initial goal, there are supposed to be other large backers, whose contributions kick in once the community reaches that initial goal. Kind of a proof of concept thing for investors. So it makes the stretch goals more reasonable.
I'm not sure if the totals between the 2 sites are supposed to be added together or if the one on www.robertsspaceindustries.com is an all inclusive total

It will be nice to see if they can compete with the X - Rebirth and the sure to follow expansions.
Also, I hope the game will have scalable graphics, since Cryengine 3 consume a LOT of resources, even in low settings.
I will follow the development

Really pumped for this, but Estimated Delivery: November 2014?
THE WAIT

Where is my Freespace 2 disc....
Fucking space sims, i totally forgot about you, im so sorry.
X-wing, X-Wing:Tie Fighter,Wing Commander, Freespace
I dont remember x wings that much i played it LOOONG time ago but Freespace is still there in memory, such great moments.
We need to kick this into overdrive.

Hell, shut up and take my money! Plus the early adopter is a STEAL!
|
we already broke $1,500,000 with the rsi and kickstarter pledges combined (i pledged on both sites too; damn $5 electro hull skin for double-backers!). there should be an option monday (hopefully) on the rsi website to increase your pledge if you've already made one, as well as additional info about the game (hopefully about the ships!).
if you missed out on the $30 option on the rsi site, you can still get it on the kickstarter page. assuming this game gets made, it's a hell of a deal.
you won't have to wait two years to fly in space; the multiplayer alpha is due in just one year.

But more generally. Personally I think its awesome that legendary game designers can go out to the people and actually make games they way they want to instead of having some suit from ActivisionBlizzard or EA tell them what to do so its portable to Xbox/PS3/whatever and maximizes teenage consumption. Fuck all of those guys for ruining computer games for people who actually grew up with good ones in the 90s.

that is true...there is no guarantee that the game will be made, as with any crowd-funded project. however, it's already been in development for a year, and chris roberts has made several similar games in the past (wing commander, privateer, freelancer), so he knows how to make this work. if anyone can bring a game like this to light, it's him. just pledge within your means...there's also an option to get a refund should the funding goals not be met (however, there is nothing to indicate that they won't be).

Chris Roberts isn't going to scam people. He is a public figure, a well known game and movie producer. Kickstarter lawyers would be delighted to sue him in court should he used their platform to scam people.
|
reddit ama with chris roberts (and other perhaps?) will start in three hours from now (10am pt / 1pm et). i'll post a link when it gets underway.
the reddit ama is now live, ask away or just come back and read later. should be good.
blah, reddit is down. figures.
chris is answering questions over in the star citizen kickstarter comments for the time being. he usually takes questions there every night at 9pm pst (or has been for the past couple of days) as well. if reddit stays down today, there will most likely be another ama session when they get their servers back up and running.

17 days left. I think he's at 1.8mill so far?
|
Throwing wallet at screen but nothing is happening...
|
yeah, we passed 1.8 Million an hour ago and will most likely bust the 500k goal on the kickstarter in an hour or two.
the rsi website should be getting an update to the pledging system which will allow you to upgrade your pledge amount. this will most likely coincide with additional pledge tiers and possibly more perks for the higher pledge amounts. finally, more detailed information about the five ships listed will *hopefully* come out today. i'll update or post if and when that happens, unless someone beats me to it.
guess it took three hours after all, but we've smashed the 500k kickstarter goal in five and a half days. onward to the main goal of 2M.
