Doesn't it take place in the same world?

Officially, EA owns all the rights, so in Star Citizen the feline bad guys will not be called Kilrathi, and the Rapier is called the hornet.
They don't need to be original, because this game is going to be so good that originality is no longer a factor.

I think that there is meant to be a nostalgia factor...

What can I play to get familiar with my joystick so that I don't spin like an idiot when I finally get this game?
|
Xwing. Any wing commander. Tie fighter. Decent freespace.

Freespace 2.
Get the new open source version (you have to buy the old version from GOG first) it has great graphics, and the flying is satisfying. I would also highly recommend Wing commander saga (which is completely free, and awesome, like an updated version of the old commander games).

Only fucking shit the 300i is a sexy beast.

Freespace 2 is great, but Tie Fighter takes the cake for best overall quality / epic story / long length.
Incidentally, anyone know of any mods / redesigns / updates for this game?

Yeah its a better game, but it seems kind of unplayable due to graphics etc now - i feel really bad saying that

Anybody interested in talking about joining a more organized faction? Just wanted to throw it out there.
I know it'd be cool to be a small time squad out living on our own etc. but I feel we could still do that but as part of a larger organization.
I used to play alongside a clan called Black Widow Company in Planetside but I fell away from them after I lost interest in the game and focused more on StarCraft which had no support from BWC at the time. Apparently, BWC is going to be investing heavily in Star Cit and if my two cents means anything, I say we throw our lot in with these gents. I've always been impressed with how organized they are, and if you apply to them and get a look at their SC forum, they have a ton of info in place already in preparation for alpha.
They are a combo of military, ex-military, and normal civs that run a very organized clan. I always had fun with them and they play to have fun too but when shit gets real they hammer down hard.
I have a feeling we could easily be a "TL" Squad just flying in their organization.
What say you gents?
But to be clear, they are against pirating. So I'm kinda torn on that one. =( But since there are multiple chars allowed now in SC, maybe I can still get my fill. =)
Edit: I found out that they are all for "Targeted Privateering aka Pirating the competition. So yay!

This is either going to be a fantastic work of art, or a colossal disappointment. They are trying to do so much at once...anyone remember Spore?

This game keeps getting better and better as time rolls on, I think it will bring immersion and virtual world to a whole new level.

That does hold my interest, but i say we wait it out and see how many TLers get the game. We could organize ourselves pretty nicely i reckon if there are enough of us.

Looks like a second chance to jump in and get lifetime insurance as they are pushing to hit the $10 MM mark. Will be interesting to see how little outside investor money they need with the community pushing the development.
For those who have interest the $45 level looks pretty attractive as you get that LTI and an upgraded starter ship . Also with Alpha and dog fighting coming up in a couple months we can start testing out the game in action and I'm sure more people will be interested then.

Uhm where do I find this? On the RSI page none of the packages have lifetime insurance, and also there's no $45 package.
I haven't really decided to put money into that game in advance so far, but strongly considering it
