The only reason I don't want to start playing EVE is because there's no reason to play a game where two giant syndicates of basement dwellers run everything.
I remember Chris Roberts addressing the fact that he didn't want players to be able to completely lock down a system or anything like that; and there will be all sorts of other safeguards like a PvP or PvE 'slider', in addition to certain 'checks' that the system automatically does, which will determine who you see in a certain 'instance' or not. For example the number of battles you're in, average skill level, and the slider settings will contribute to who you see in any point of space. So basically he's trying to make sure that it isn't going to turn out like Eve where people can simply dominate a system. At the same time he's trying to ensure that people can still enjoy some of those tactics, to a certain extent. So its really about finding a middle ground.
If you keep up with Star Citizen news, Chris Roberts is actually a very reasonable developer. He often sticks to the middle ground and tries to ensure that everyone can find something of value in Star Citizen, whether its pro gamer or new gamer, those who like PvP to those who just like PvE and single player. That's what I really like about the game, besides how much he cares about the community. In some ways its almost like the direct opposite of blizzard; as opposed to the much disliked chat system and clan support in SC2, their new organizations system is coming out in *pre-alpha* (not like two years into the game's release), its open source, and its really well designed so players can take full advantage of it at the early stages. Their company constantly interacts with their fans and provides feedback whenever there are major concerns on the forums. Really it feels like the opposite of Blizzard
From that perspective I can kind of see how people actually spend thousands of dollars on this game. Everything they do is done with such detail and care that its like this amazing marketing scheme...I looked around on the forums and I see people who are seemingly addicted to buying ships, often taking money out of their living expenses (!). Anyway I could talk more but it would be too long

Dogfight Module release to be at PAX East April 11-13. Public download to be a few days after.

I applied to join. Dog fight is soon, right during my exams.
|
Same here. Worse thing is I just got a new rig which just runs the game so smoothly. And exams are in three weeks -_-.
EDIT : Accepted

It's amazing to see the whole process from the begining, i only pledged 35€ i believe it was, and seeing the process alone is more the worth it.

hm so hyped about this but haven't yet bough a ship package. I'm thinking about buying one before Pax to get access to the dogfighting module but I don't know what ship to buy (or rather: how much money I am willing to spend, thinking that I'll probably need to buy a joystick as well)
|
I would hold off on a joystick for now unless you buy a cheap $30 one. We still don't know which will be more effective. Mouse+Keyboard or Joystick. You may end up using both but I'd hold off until dogfight release.
As for package, if you know someone that is an original backer. Get them to buy for you as they can petition for LTI and still get it compared to someone brand new. I was able to get LTI on a hornet package after the LTI ended by asking so that's how I know. Then they can transfer the now LTI accout to you. It's a good work around. Chelsea may still give you LTI if you petition and state a good case. Like. You loved wing commander an wish you had heard about SC sooner etc.
If you have $50-$100. Go for 325a or Avenger.
|
TBH i don't really care which is more effective. Playing with HOTAS is so much more fun, and i just couldn't play a successor to Wing Commander with a mouse and keyboard.

applied for the organization.
I'm really looking forward to being on a larger ship with a bunch of other real persons, doing mining operations or exploring and then getting attacked by pirates/aliens, launching fighters from the capital ship hangar, manning turrets etc. I have been fantasizing about this stuff for the last few weeks. And the more I read and watch about this game the more I get hyped for it.

I've heard rumors that we might see DFM shortly after or during PAX East. Anyone else holding their breath? I would probably take a sick week

it's the reason I joined now (also the dropping number of available number of alpha-slots) instead of waiting any further
I am thinking about getting a Hotas setup (after my old joystick died recently). Any recommendations? I heard the T.Flight Hotas Stick could be a good entry level Hotas (around 40€, so very cheap). A friend also recommended me to wait for Saitek X-55 Rhino reviews and see if that stick would be worth it. That's more of a mid-level setup for 200€ but it looks way cooler and it got way more buttons and stuff ^.^

I'm thinking that I would like a HOTAS, but I will make do with my $30.00 Logitech piece of crap until release. The Hotas + Oculus Rift looks like a good time!

I'll probably hold off until I've played the DFM and maybe even the final game, but if this thing is as good as it seems, a HOTAS + VR system would quite literally be gaming nirvana for me. Nerdchills all over my body just thinking about it.

The pictures look amazing. I can only hope that the DFM runs well.
