you may know the new outcoming game Shootmania which is in the Beta already.
It already had a lot of tournaments and Lans.
Do you think it will become a big game in FPS?
It also got picked up by IPL as the first FPS ever.

Tbh I have no idea if people are ready for such a hardcore fps game, but I really hope it takes off. Its been too long since we've had a fast paced fps like this. Quake Live was the last popular one, and thats based on Quake 3..which is how old now? its time for something new, and I cant wait to see how it does.

Comparing Shootmania with Trackmania is sort of silly considering they aren't even in the same genre.

With the upcoming changes maybe it can be better , but I highly doubt it.

Well I still think Shootmania has a long way to go. The best thing it has going for it is in the modding potential. The gametype (3v3) whatever it is called is very unique, but not that interesting to play or watch. It feels like a dumbed-down Quake, taking less skill. The 'stripped down game' feels very stale to me personally. Hopefully it does well, but mainly I want to see a better game take its place, if a better game does come along of course...

If it becomes big, I can only imagine it's because duel fps players have nothing else to play.

Also I'm playing Shootmania most likely in elite mode (competitive) and I think the skill has improved a lot in the competitive scene which makes me happy and also the play style of European and American teams is again very different. So that will make the IPL really interessting in my opinion as well. I do think the game has a lot of potentional and hope it will become big in eSports with the Support of the right leagues and tournament organisations it would work

Both sides have still one big thing to come each. On deepness, it is the update we can do, especially on the gameplay, from looking how the game is played on the beta 2 and after. On audience, the release and the free modes with it should be the key to bring more and more players, also thanks to the wide creative capacities of the game, in order to keep the momentum going, like we did quite well with Trackmania. Shortly, the games needs both to become solid and popular and eventually bring a deep and big competitive scene with it. By the way, even if Trackmania has been limited on the eSport side, but with 12M players, it had been to many many lans in Europe, ESWC, WCG, ESL Pro Series, making it the #1 eSport racing game somehow. Keep in mind that the genre is more difficult, like for sport: you practice less racing than discipline where you have opponents. On long term, Trackmania has good potential for spectator though. I have been to around 10 international competitions, and I always found great moment to watch. It was maybe even a little early for the game, without streams at that time etc.

It will be free & I'll give him a couple of hours. It may be a good thing if it's not as elitist as Q3 was or even warsow. Besides if they do a nice tool mod, well who knows... dota & cs are just some mod

Its like judging minecraft by the early betas.

Game seems pretty simple and kind of boring at first, seeing how its mostly only one weapon and not a lot of excitement, but then after playing it, its really fun and refreshing. Its like a arcade game you get addicted to. The different game modes are pretty cool, the mode used in competitive play, 3vs1, defenders vs attackers, seems pretty cool and fast paced. The game is also fully modable, which, I think will make it very popular and there will be all sorts of crazy stuff. I think the thing I like most about it is the clean simple graphics, and easy to identify player models. I remember playing UT2004 and liking that about it, then getting UT3 and being like how do you even see anything? Coming from Half-Life 2 Deathmatch into this is very different, as hl2 had a large skill curve and a community of very uninformed players who held a tight grip on their ban hammers. The pro scene has pretty much died in that game, whereas Shootmania is fresh and new.
