I was surprised that they have Monte Cook onboard for this, and rather excited for how this will turn out. The guy's been a writer/designer for Tabletop RPGs going all the way back to 2nd Ed. D&D (he actually wrote a bunch of the original 2nd Edition Planescape supplements in the first place so he's partially responsible for what makes Planescape what it is). I think this is his first foray into video game design, but given his strong background in writing lore/designing worlds/RPG systems for tabletop games, it will be quite interesting to see how this turns out.

Actually Monte is not doing video game design. Numenara is his new pen&paper setting and rulebook and it seems it will be fracking awesome. Since guys at inExile were looking for a new setting for their Torment 2 game (owners of Planescape turned them down), they contacted Monte to use his.

He will be part of development, and I am sure he will help them shape parts of the world of Numenara they wish to use for the game, but I don't think he will have more to say about the game itself. Maybe he will also help them turn his PnP mechanics of his setting into a computer version.

They had nothing to do with producing the work, except funding. About as much input as a kickstarter donor. The ones responsible for the "work" are the people making this new game. In other news, I just donated $110 . Although a bit annoyed. I was about to click the $95 tier when it sold out -______-

IMO, it's just pettiness. They aren't doing anything with it, but just maaaaaybe in the far-flung future they will try to resurrect it, so in the meantime instead of making some money and letting the passionate people who created the universe in the first place continue developing it, they just sit on it. For the sake of money. Disgusts me, tbh.

Gameplay is really shitty compared to baldur's gate and i'd say even neverwinter nights, might as well read good book rather playing this damn game. I don't see anyone making a sequel that won't be dissapointing to the fans either the way they hype the old one up. Just because the gameplay isn't that good (and by gameplay you probably mean the combat gameplay) doesn't mean that Torment isn't taking advantage of the interactivity of the medium (it actually does this quite well--based on variation on how the game progresses based on your interaction with characters throughout the game).

With a game like that, the atmosphere and settings you get to see are just as much a part of the "story" as the dialogue and writing.
