Salty Bet is an online betting game in which you bet between two AI controlled characters in the MUGEN game engine, which allows players to import and mod any character they want. Salty Bet has over 2600 characters imported from all over the Internet, ranging from the traditional fighters such as Ryu to insane characters such as Barney and Ronald McDonald, as well as every DBZ character imaginable.
Salty Bet is extremely addicting, and has grown massively in popularity becoming one of the most watched streams on Twitch.tv, as its stream runs 24/7. The money is fake, but the salt is real.
If you go bankrupt (aka "sent to the Salt Mines"), you get $10 Salty Bucks to get you back in the game, and the base line increases for the amount of experience you gain per bet. There is a premium user option (not the same as subscribing to twitch) called Salty Illuminati, which gives players all the stats of every fighter in the game.
Tips for new players: -Always bet DBZ -All in on waifus -Never trust chat -Naruto characters are trash
- if you're in the salt mines, all in every round - otherwise, build cash by betting 1$ every round. Even if the odds are 3 million to one in favor of whoever you pick you will profit at least one dollar by winning so this is a strictly better strategy than not betting. - When you see a match you're confident in, bet heavily and pray for good odds. This is your chance at big profits. - "clones" (characters that have two halves) are 90% garbage because the AI doesn't control them well - poorly drawn obvious joke characters are usually OP - spellcaptor characters (ones with a certain bar above their heads that you will eventually recognize, and a row of cards along the bottom that won't be visible until the match starts) are grossly op - Be very suspicious if something seems different about a character you saw kick ass before. There are often several different versions. - Remember if a character has a remotely even game vs a shit tier, even if they win, that still places them in shit tier.
Waifus are usually either really good or really bad. Touhou and Sailor Moon are god tier, while Kanon and most of the random fanmade stuff is severely underpowered.

Don't you dare misuse the word god tier, or else rare akuma send you to the statue of liberty in your sleep.
(un)OFFICIAL SALTY TO SC2 CONVERSION
Tier 5 - Bronze (<10% win, e.g. Majinn Buu, Vegeta ssj1) Tier 4 - Silver (~25% win, e.g. Wolvenom, War machine) Tier 3 - Gold/Plat (~45% win e.g. Sakura, Ken) Tier 2 - Diamond (~67% win e.g. Megatron, Ryu) Tier 1 - Master (~80% win, e.g. Alter amiba, Holy Ken) God Tier - Top10 KR GM (~99 win, e.g. rare akuma, radish ssj4)
Tier 5 generally have horrendous AI, don't block, never use specials, hit weak, never combo chain Tier 4 generally have bad AI, may block, rarely use specials, hit weak, sometimes small combo chain Tier 3 generally have mediocre AI, sometimes block, uses specials a couple times/game, hit moderate, small combo chain Tier 2 generally have good AI, usually block, uses specials a few times per game, hit strong, medium combo chain Tier 1 generally have great AI, blocks, frequently uses specials, hit strong, may have very long combo chins God Tier only has 1 requirement for entry: Able to 1-shot any other character with hit or special
I think there are different versions of characters with the same name bit different clothes that can be completely different in play. Oh, Ronald McDonald is op as fuck. He got some off-screen infinite or something like that.

Pretty sure that's just your definition, and not a very good one. Tier is based on how well the character matches up vs other characters, nothing else.
There are most definitely Touhou and Sailor Moon characters who are on or above the level of Rare Akuma. But some are bad, obviously. There are a lot of them.
that was a huge upset. then I all-inned on fakeass mystia -_-. googled her and turns out she's touhou so I thought she'd do the bullet hell thing even though her opponent was an obviously OP waifu loli... turns out mystia is garbage.

Since the term is completely subjective, it depends on where you draw the line. But there are at least 4-5 other characters who would pull a 99% winrate vs the rest of the cast. I would set the bar even lower than that, since they rarely fight each other.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for a good laugh. Sailor Jupiter is the realest of the bunch at 14-4. Rare Akuma is 20-1 and only lost to himself.
Other 'god tier' players... Silversamurai, Bullseye, Radish ssj4, Kanna, Chiel, Koryu, Barney, Ronald, Daimon 71113, Patchouli (except for that fraud match)

Yeah God Tier character means absolutely ridiculous characters that are pretty much 99.9% win unless there is a glitch in the game.
Have you seen Rare Akuma send someone to die in front of the Statue of Liberty? Have you seen Barney kill someone with a love song? Have you seen Radish SSJ4 literally one shot every character he's been up against?
God Tier is only a term that we can comprehend with our human minds. God Tier characters occupy another dimension of salty bet.

No, Uranus and Beryl are the strongest Sailor Moon characters. They're probably not god tier depending on your definition, but they're close enough that it's not worth arguing about.

CarltonBeener listed some of the top tier characters who are broken, usually have 1-shot abiliity or mass comboing skills that essentially never lose, except to each other. Some of the characters may not seem strong at all at first, then randomly use a 1-shot ability.

It's cool that you have stats, but it doesn't mean anything if you haven't seen the matches. Uranus and Beryl are most definitely stronger than Jupiter. Also, I was not arguing that they are stronger than Silversamurai, so I don't know why you pulled that stat out of your ass.
My definition of god tier is beating 96-97% of the cast. If you have a different one, that's cool, I can't stop you. Stop making it sound like there's some objective definition for these things.

I do, and unlike you I actually play fighting games, and have used Mugen for 10 years. I could care less about your week's worth of experience watching matches on a stream.
there's a huge gap in understanding here. if we put rare akuma vs. uranus or beryl who would you bet real money on? lets take it down a notch and say omega tiger woods, barney, or ronald mcdonald? i'd be surprised if your tier list could even take a game off dink smallwood
there isn't subjectivity. rare akuma would beat sailor moon characters and i would put actual money on it. a character who pretty much one shots another character is an absolute win. you don't need to play fighting games to understand that.

You're basically arguing with me over whether God Tier consists of the top 0.1% or top 3%. Do you understand why such an argument is pointless?

Who are you talking to right now? Who is it you think you see? Do you know how much we bet a salty session? I mean, even if I told you, you wouldn't believe it. Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop betting? Huge amount of salty bucks that it could be listed on the NASDAQ goes belly up. Disappears! It ceases to exist without us. No, you clearly don't know who you're talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not scrub, Cel. erity. I AM illuminati! Someone goes all in on waifu and ends up in the mines, and you think that of me? No. I ALWAYS bet DBZ!
yeah there is an aquaman, maybe more than one I'm not sure. not completely useless or braindead AI, but I would only bet on him if you think that the odds will be great enough.
admittedly salty bet has lost some of its appeal in the past couple of weeks ... viewer counter has literally quadrupled, but more importantly people have figured out most of the characters so there arent too many upsets anymore, which was a big part of the fun
should change it so can get more REAL FIGHTS with balanced out characters

NEVER listen to the chat. The chat have learned, they will try to make you bet on the unfavor one when they know the clear favor to earn more. In fact, try to bet against the chat.
Never all-in. A safe range is something around 1%-5% of what you have. Allow yourself going up to 50% at most on very certain bet.
You can skip out on betting. Yes, you dont need to bet every round. SKip the one that you are not sure about.

Well... how can I not give this a try after reading in the chat something like this: "NEXT MATCH BETTER BE POPEYE V. KEN" I'm scared as to how far I'll get hook on this but... oh well!
I'd like this a lot more if it would actually register all my bets. I would be 5-2 tonight since finding this, instead I'm 1-2 and in the salt mines. -_-

On August 18 2013 13:32 LaiShin wrote: Is the strength of the character based on who the majority is betting on?
it's the other way around, probably 30-40% of the bettors can see win/loss rates or know the good characters by now so you get insane all-ins on mismatches.
I also don't get what's so fascinating or addictive about it. Could be because I never played any console fighting games and don't know 99.9999999% of the characters I guess.
Went all in a few times, won some, lost all. I rate it a 0 out of 10.
This shit is dangerous. I was addicted to it for a week, stayed up until 4am watching matches. When the site went down for maintenance for half a day I broke out of it and now I'm scared to watch the stream.

ostensibly my last bet of the night, 2960 on fuckin' zarbom to beat queen beryl turned into a 100k payout by a bored top 200 guy tossing 500k on beryl and exploding the odds. my heart goes out to him, #201 now.
did anyone just see ash vs goku? unreal bullshit. I can't believe saltybet is still giving me new ridiculous garbage haha. Always something I haven't seen.

Holy shit did anyone catch the godly ryu comeback versus the random waifu with the 'I will hit everything everywhere' moves? Ended up winning with a shred of health left after going down 2-0. Was epic :D

Sometimes the bet buttons really piss me off. Usually they just fail to accept bets I place (and it always seems to be when I would've won a fortune, too).
Recently I went all-in on Piccolo, who won, but my bet didn't take (would've doubled my money). Then the next round it auto-bet me on fucking Warmachine and I lost everything.

1) are you using chrome? sometimes the bets dont work on chrome unless you refresh after every match. use firefox instead 2) are you betting in the last 5 seconds? bets made in the last 5 seconds almost never go through for me. i think one reason why is that the stream and the bet sometimes get desynced after a while, and the betting time has already ended while the stream timer still says 4 seconds left or something.
Sometimes both. I'll try using Firefox. I suspected Chrome was being buggy. I get a lot of random page refreshes and button clicks that don't seem to register.

I think this is because you have a large delay with the stream and the betting time is over even if you see 10 seconds remaining. It happened to me several times.

Yeah the sync is with 480+ so if you are on 240/360 you will be behind in video, so the betting will actually end awhile before your video says its over. Sadly for me, their 480+ setting uses a ridiculously high bitrate, so it sucks for my bad internet; it does have high fps though.
Went from 15k to 475k on the Alice vs Roll upset with my allin on Alice. Now top 60 kk. Easy life.
Currently I've been guessing incorrectly like 15 variable fights(ones where the outcome is not certain) and it's really been screwing with my income -.- I seriously need to start betting on the character with the LOWER record if there's 2 at pretty comparable records... And I need to realize that Marvel Spiderman sucks.
So salty. I made a bit of cash off of the salty goku who kept glitching out and making the time run out, but I just bet all and lost. Luckily they give you more bailout the more bets you've made.

i still think it requires too much grinding (mining)
IMO to get out of the mines as illuminati or not, you need to all in pretty much every game and not care if you lose it all.
I've been skipping out on bets that I'm unsure of, and going all in on characters that I know will 100% win or have a very good chance of winning despite the odds, and I've made it back to $20k - $30k in the span of 1-2 hours from illuminati mines. However, you do get sent to the mines a lot of i you are not careful.
I used to bet very conservatively and though I've reached 100k numerous times, it did take a while. After I reach 100k, I play like 100k is my "base line" and never bet anything that can send me below that. Well, thats the plan until I go on tilt lol.
Ash has too many games too count, his W/L record doesn't really matter at this point because he can be super fake but he's won a lot of decent games. Athena is 9-14. I'm assuming Athena can fight and hit decently, but doesn't have spectacular combos and maybe lacks supers. Even if it's fake Ash, he can still combo well with good supers, so I went all in on Ash. Made good money on that since people are really scared of fake Ash.
Just some insight into how to all-in on some games.
Protip: the real Ash is the one who at intro teleports, has his chainsaw at hand and doesn't pick it up, and speaks italian. That Ash wrecks face and you get amazing odds vs some "better" chars.
Oh and I broke 550k for the first time! Just 35k more and I'm in top 50 :3 TL represent
At above, you NEVER allin unless its ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN. Unless you're in the mines
If you're in the mines I'd always allin on the underdog though.

i still think it requires too much grinding (mining)
Yea it does take a lot . Luckily I normally just do it while I am reading or doing something else. A quick look at the screen to see who is going on and then bet.

From what I've seen ( I don't have statistics), it seems to be one of the power ranger characters. Megazord(?), I've seen him and all variations get kicked around all the time. Not even a super attack that 1 hits or anything.
Edit: Does anyone else normally like the music they play? Although usually unfitting for the fight every once in a while it gets a little more hype because of it.

Takuma S XIII and Yuri Sakazaki both freeloss vs even 0-20s
Protip: The real Marvin comes with UFO and then has his remote making noises and flash and then taps the floor(WITH SOUND). This Marvin rapes, the other fails.
Okay after losing all of this money I realized its a lot more fun when you dont bet at all and just read the chat for reactions and look at the matches :3

Well isn't it the whole point just watch the chat and be part of it.
I've lost practically every coin-flip today lololol. The last 3 were real killers though because they came back to win three matches in a row. Pass the salt shaker.

Been doing this since I first came across it. Betting sucks the fun out of things sometimes.

Not even. It's fake Salt and I approve this message. Much more fun when you're playing with the salt. Raise your salt shakers! Technically you could never lose if all you ever do is bet a few salt, but even then I find that technique relatively boring. There's just way too many stomps with the current set-up that you will always be making salt if you stick to your salt management. It's like playing a game of War only with the cards face up so technically you can never lose. Won't stop me from going all-in a whole lot because I find it more fun!

I also approve this message. I love going all-in on the 1:1s as well man. I mean it's already fun to watch the comebacks and throws from the A.I. but when you have a little more stake in it. Oh yeah, I get the funzies all over my body.

The tournaments are really fun because they have characters who are very good with very similar win records, so it's sometimes a tossup on who can win. The normal betting is the 'grind' where its a bit safer to make some money.
Whenever I go below ~350 I just make a new account and start at 400. In my opinion it's insane to struggle at 10$ for no reason when you can get 400 for free

Its funny because hes absolute garbage when he doesn't use his summons and mid-high when he does, which means that he can get some insane upsets if you get lucky. Definitely worthwhile to bet a small amount on him for an upset(1% of stack perhaps).

If you really want to get into it. Yeah, just show up for tournaments because all hell breaks loose.
So what just happened? Why did Burns become invulenrable, heal, and be at the top of the screen spamming skulls while being impossible to damage and teleporting 2 times a second? I've never seen that before.
I mean, if he did that every fight Burns would be a solid S tier.
I missed the heal. I thought he was dead, but next thing I know he's offscreen. I saw a Burns that was pretty good like that yesterday, but also one that was complete garbage. Maybe he's new?

Yeah feels like there's a new Burns that's really good and the old Burns that sucks. Hopefully I'll soon learn how to identify them.

Don't you hate it when that happens? I check the bets regularly and I saw Raditz up and there was like 15 seconds left and I went oh shit so I just went all-in on him not realizing it was actually the fake Raditz and went broke lol. Shit happens!
Holy shit just saw a godly match with Shaq. His special was his face appearing in the middle of the screen and then fast food raining down from the ceiling to pummel the opponent.
Rare Akuma is just sick. Did you see the matches 2v1 matches? lol There are actually quite a few ridiculously strong chars... and look who's up now. Barney. Good times.

Another example would be what they wear. off the top of my head, Android 18 and Sakura Kinomoto have fake and real versions with the same name, and you can tell which is which by the outfit they are wearing.
Android 18 wearing this outfit and a red one that i cant find a picture of are the real ones and are good. Android 18 wearing this outfit is trash.
For Sakura, her schoolgirl and blue jester outfts are really OP, but her purple kitty outfit is pretty bad. Might be more, but I don't remember.
Ya I think another easy one is Trail Dummy which looks like Zombie but isnt. Then I think there is one with Sanae (touhou) and the real one is the one with the green hair while the Red one is the fake. Atleast from my experience, I see the difference when they fight since I am a touhou fan.
Whoaaaaaaaaa salty bet getting popular it's even on TL lol. Every now and then I would look for marvel or sf4 streams and would come across "salty bet" well I fell in love lol.
The stream music is the thing that makes me keep muting it. I have no idea why people even listen to rap in general, much less for background music but whatever.
It's especially annoying if the music is loud enough that you cannot hear some signs for fakes
BTW I think it's hilarious that Sephiroth is like 1-10 with his only win against Mike Tyson
Anyone else remember who Shiori Misaka fought a few matches a while back? It looked like another touhou chick with green hair and the name started with M i think and she was floating too. EDIT: NVM found it, it was Mima and it was an epic battle :D
Regarding the music, most of it is video game music I think. I have yet to hear any rap, mostly final fantasy and chrono trigger music that been most noticeable

The prefix mexi- basically means horrifyingly overpowered simply because the retarded creator of the mugen character felt like making them overpowered. Rather than making a superior AI or quality moveset, they rely on sheer unfair power for their character to win.
It's a general send up of the classic 'knock-off' you see being sold in markets and the like - where the originator of the item probably has no intellectual property rights and doesn't take much pride in its creation. For example:

Well there was a Youmu vs Lavos today which cost me quiet a fortune sadly and eventually lead me to the mine a few matches later after leaving my mouth feeling salty. I bet on Youmu hoping she had the speed to gap in on Lavos before he can do his imba spells and chain combo on him. I was correct and Youmu was able to gap in and dish out some damage and I actually saw Lavos almost hitting 2/3 HP but then she got caught because Lavos doesnt get stun when he get hit and everything just fell apart and all 3 matches went like that. Is Lavos even beatable or upset-able? He seems like he could deal with Ronald since Ronald cant dodge his AOE and could probably the only one who can upset on Rare Akuma.
Well it's not probably 1 shot super vs Lavos Spawn but consider that Radish takes like 2 pixels of damage from a Radish normal that 1shots every normal character. Barney infinited Radish for like 50 seconds with lasers that deal like 30% of a normal chars hp per hit and during those 50s he took Radish to like 4/5 hp
Radish's 1 basic attack deals more dmg than Lavos Spawn super and Radish has more HP than Lavos Spawn.
Here's a current theory:
Fake Burns flies in as a bat, real Burns flies in as himself in superman pose from the opponent's side of the screen. Need a larger sample size.
Some of your tiers are wrong by the way. The absolute bullshit list is way too long and there's gigantic variance in there. Oh and plenty are just completely wrong. For example stuff like "Wolvenom(lost to Blossom...sad" just makes no sense, Blossom is mid-high.
Orochi Vega in B tier when he's SSS is just ridiculous. Alice in B tier when she's D at best. Dodgers in A when he's C. Mordecai in A when he's B-. Fake The Thing in S when he's awful. All cyberbots clumped together when there's great variance among them. Yashaoh in S when he's C. Another Kyo S when he's C. Jason Todd in S when he's C. Future Trunks above S when he's B-. Android 17 in same tier when he's C. Fake roll in SS is just stupid. Strong Guy in SS when he's A. Fat Albert in SS has got to be a joke. Krusty is not SSS, Homero is significantly better than him. Soujiro is more like S or A+ than SSS. Kuando same thing. Pocket Fighters shouldn't be clumped together, Felicia is god tier while Ryu and Ken for example are mediocre. SPO Ryu is C-/D or so, not B. I also love how you clump all Touhou together when they range all the way from god tier to potato tier with everything in between.
Those off the top of my head.
BTW real Adon(2d sprite and really fast idle animation) is about SS tier while the fake Adon is around C
oh... yeah you really cannot just put touhou together. there's the ones that are beyond godlike or really amazing. off the top of my head, patch, remi, cirno, kanna, yukari, mugetu, marisa, etc.
while others are absolutely horrible and are just easy traps for people who think all touhou are good, e.g. mamizou, reisen, wriggle (i lost like 3k on this bitch), mystia, keine, sanae, alice margatroid, etc.
However, all 7 of the arrange_ touhou are ridiculously OP. always all in on them
There was a match on saturday or sunday between Angus and one of the touhou characters. Angus won the first round but the next three rounds the touhou used a special move at the start of each that instakilled Angus. Can't remember the name of the character, only I need to all in on her always.
Iirc the instakill move turned the background black and there were a bunch of white glowing balls flying around.
Yeah I've been watching for almost a week now, but for some reason never signed up. I did yesterday and made some money and lost some the always bet on touhou rule doesnt apply to all their characters it seems, since some of them have terrible AI.

This. Pretty accurate regarding the touhou. I would like to add Youmu and Nazrin to almost god tier and Mima right below them.
Edit: Regarding that Tier list listed before, I think Shikyo is correct. They are alot of character that are wrong on that list. I believe alot of people blindly follow the tier list.I think once you understand more, you are better off without the tier list and your own judgement better.

Well you have to be careful when betting on Touhou because some Touhou looks really similar to Eternal Fighter Zero character and most character from Eternal fighter Zero character are really bad with the few exception of Mai Mawasumi, Ayu Tsukimiya and Shiori Mikasa who are relatively high tier pick but I wouldnt say they are OP though. Regarding the always pick Touhou, I would say that it generally pretty safe to always pick Touhou if you have NO idea who the hell the other character she is fighting is because Touhou are generally better than most but of course you shouldnt all-in if you dont know for sure if the Touhou character is very good. Always all-in Nazrin and Youmu, I would say the same to Kanna but she lost to Mr. Burns with probably the biggest upset I have seen and cost me my first trip to the mine.

Oh and it's usually not that good to follow the tier list. You need to know about the characters. If you don't, you're generally better off not betting. For example, mexihp chars with bad AI are large favorites even against significantly better melee characters(Unless they're SSS tier insane melee chars like Chiel), whereas they are large underdogs against heavy spam / zoning characters like Marvin.

I wonder what betting style is the most profitable. I generally bet very safely with just a few likely upset bets and this makes the amount of my money grow really slowly. I feel like I miss out on a ton of money because I am too afraid to bet on slight upsets(that end up winning most of the time with incorrectly good odds).
I'm at 401 correct and 76 incorrect bets. I see numerous people at much higher $ amounts with much worse ratios.

Unbelievably addictive stuff. :D I found saltybet through TL and checked it out last weekend. Now I'm consumed by it.
Salty bucks come and go. Went up from salty mines (25$) to 815k during one day. Lost 600k in 5 minutes with 3 bad bets. Then drifted in 200k range and went allin against Megaman which I had never seen winning anybody. FML. It's a long road back from dem mines. T_T

this is what i get for looking people up instead of just following my instincts. chaos is utter trash. always all in vs him, no matter who he's against.

Felecia could parry everything so every character she faced just crumbled. Then when Sailor Uranus got to the final, people thought it was going to be a good match since Sailor Uranus is a powerful and slow with nice dashes, grappler character . So she would be able to grab Felecia since Felecia is small with little reach and has to get close and become vulnerable to the grab. Her parry ability also doesnt work on grab so Sailor Uranus was pretty favored to win and people though it would finally be a good match.
They were completely wrong because Felecia small hit box ended up making her too small to get grabbed by Sailor Uranus and Felecia just rolled over 5-0 not even dropping below 50%. The only person who came close to beating Felecia was Kaede Hioh who almost pulled a big upset against Felecia since she has the counter ability which almost worked but her AI became stupid in the last few fight and she stop using it. I would of been easily top 10 richest on saltybet if she had another upset yesterday

I though he was going to stop at top 8 yesterday and play the rest out next week but apparently it wasnt and he finish the tournament so I dont really understand the meaning behind his facebook post. Anyone wana clarify?
there have been 9 tournament winners, minus felicia that is 8

she seems to have an ability that counter instant kill ability with her own instant kill which was why she was able to kill Dark Donald and Finale Sula. I am glad they didnt make her simply stronger or have imba regen like Dark Ronald, instead she has this ability. She seems to be right behind Dark Donald in term of OP-ness since she did beat Finale Sula and Rare Akuma.

It was definitely the worst tournament by far. Doesnt Magma generally just pew pew people with this laser and instant win? Why didnt he do it this time. Was there 2 Magma?
Either way, this tournament sucked because all character had terrible AI but just retardedly powerful ability leading to boring fight.

theres only one magma (the one in the tournament), but yeah, bad for all the reasons you stated
just watched batman got murdered by some nightmare / horror character. The whole ui was gone to be replaced by nasty death scenes.
Now I would like to see that nightmare character pitched against a high/god tier (except one shotting cheaters). But maybe that stats are such that it will die too soon...
Was that nightmare... Giygas from Earthbound? That mugen creation is friggin SPOOKY!

Giygas has participated in 14 matches. It has won every match, though I believe it has lost a single round to one or two characters, including Sub-Zero (can't remember which variant). I agree, though, it's one spooky motherfucker.

Pretty spot on, he not worth the time of any god tier character imo. He is strong but not unbeatable. He is probably within the tier of A+. Someone like Burst Sol or Order Sol (might give him a good run), Ronald, Arthras, Lavos, Barney, and Raditz would wreck him.
Giygas is currently losing 2-1 to Julius Belmont. The Giygas death static has been playing for a couple minutes straight since Julius' second win, maybe as a defense mechanism? Or maybe he wanted to stick around for Mr. Astley's performance, who knows.
Edit: After five straight minutes of static, Giygas returned and one-shotted Belmont by dropping him through a horrific looking meatgrinder, then something happened in the third fight (it looked kind of close?) and Giygas won 3-2.

Yeah Undeadhero made me rich! 3-2 win over Masta Gambit with 43.9:1 odds. I have now 2k+, never broke 400 before.
I wanted to know, what's your guys betting strategy? I am thinking about: - 10% if not sure or bet on the upset - 50% if 99.9% sure of the outcome - never all-in unless it is less than 200

I also lost all my money on that matchup. I bet on Masta Gambit lol and lost it. Masta Gambit STILL MY BOY though! It was a close match.
If you don't bet big... you'll never get big money.
I easily got almost 500K by just all in almost every matchup lol. Then for some reason I got bored because I had so much money. So I started screwing with the odds by betting all my money and eventually got burnt haha.
---
My strategy: I all in most of the time unless I know it's a 50/50 chance to lose. Then it's not worth risking it. If if it's 50/50 I'll bet based on how much money I'm willing to lose. If I feel an upset is possible I'll throw a decent amount of money at the underdog.
Being in the illuminati mines is awesome though. 700+ salt money can easily turn into 50k because upsets/dreams are actually more common than it seems. All it takes is one person blowing all of their money on the "favorite". That's why so many "gold" names keep betting on dreams because it only takes one upset/dream to put them back into 5 digits. ---
It sucks though when people with 9 million salts, screw up the odds. Touhou matchups instantly become ridiculous 3K odds or some junk. So everyone keeps getting one dollar. So only potato fights / real fights is where most of the money is made.
Without illuminati it's pretty tough. Sure a good all-in upset can give up to 400 or 500 salt but you need to find the right one and manage to keep the money from there. When you're not sure about the match ups it becomes a coin toss, and the matches where the outcome is easily predictable have retarded odds (like the 1:14335 this morning). So I just end up gaining 20 to 50 salt from time to time and pray that the guys I all-in on don't lose.

Those are pretty much your only options. You can also watch the odds of each match to determine how favored a fighter generally is, since many Illuminati will dump tons of money on characters that appear to be sure bets according to the stats. I'm not incredibly familiar with all the fighters either, but some general tips I've picked up are:
Dragon Ball Z characters, as a whole, have garbage AI and moves, but also tend to pack ridiculously powerful special attacks that pretty much 1-shot anything. Those attacks, called "mexibeams" due to the DBZ characters apparently being coded by Mexicans, are highly unreliable because of their potato AI, so they often get stomped. DBZ characters are almost always luck-based, but there are several that are competent fighters. In a similar vein, almost all Naruro characters suck, and don't even get mexibeams.
Many characters from the Touhou Project, like Remilia or Yukari, are obscenely powerful projectile spammers. Some of the cast, like Wriggle or Mystia, are pretty bad, but they are the exception.
Ronald McDonald is insane, no matter what color scheme he has. Always bet on him unless he's up against another incredibly strong character, like Rare Akuma... but even then, he can win. Dark Donald in particular is, according to the chat, the most OP character on the roster.
Try not to rely on chat for information. Many people will feed false information to better their own odds. At the same time, if a legitimately powerful/weak character shows up, chat is often a good measure for their ability.
Never ask what song is playing. You will never get a straight answer.
Thanks my man, I'm having a laugh on this site already I'm going to try and get my roommates to start betting. I just watched Grover get wrecked, and Steel looks like a beast. So a lot of these characters depend on who programmed them?
edit:Also what do the icons next to bettor's names mean? How rich they are?
Yeah. When a character has great AI, you'll know. When a character is a potato, you'll know even more. With such a gigantic character roster, every match is special in its own way.
Oh, and God help you if the song Sandstorm starts playing. Chat will EXPLODE.

Quick review of Illuminati compendium:
You can unlock Tier S/A/B characters for a certain amount of money... after unlock you can spend even more money to raise their health or super meter (at start of fight)
(P) otato tier characters don't need to be unlocked. You can immediately start upgrading their health or meter. I heard Blob was upgraded 2 or 3 times (his health). Dunno if true or not. Costs 10k salt to upgrade P tier chars.
For an amazing 10 million salts you can delete a potato. Sounds kind of outrageous for the price...
I'd be up for chain-buffing Marie, just so all the regular people will be flabbergasted when she floors every character she faces after having like a 0-50 record. SaltyBet is all about the surprises, after all.

The changelog is at the very bottom of that character's page. Blob's health has been increased by 80 (4x20) from 40. Anywho, the compendium should be fun for potential surprises. Matchmaking is great too though.

Out of curiosity, what is the standard health of a character anyways. I know they varies since this is mugen, it hard to have an average. So now instead of dying in 1 hit, Blob can be expected to die in 4 hits approximately?

No idea how to add character on team yet. I am going to buy an illuminate stats tomorrow :o
Most of the characters have base 1000 health. There are a few exceptions here and there. As for how to add a character to your team, it says you have to unlock the character to add it to your team so you can probably only add B-tier and above characters? This is just my guess. Any P-tier character is subject to deletion at anytime, so keeping them off people's teams would lower the NaCl levels in case they got deleted. I don't got the salty bucks to test right now though.
The Compendium is a feature that allows you to see the full Salty Bet roster as well as the tier each character belongs to. In addition to viewing this information, you can use the Compendium to make minor adjustments to each character. Currently, you can spend your Salty Bucks to increase or decrease a character's health, or to increase/decrease the amount of meter they start each round with. You must first unlock the character before changing its stats (S Tier, A Tier, and B Tier). P Tier (potato) characters do not need to be unlocked. Instead of unlocking P Tier characters, they can be permanently deleted from the roster using your Salty Bucks.
A life increase/decrease of 20 represents a 2% change in health for most characters (base 1000), and a meter upgrade of 100 is roughly 10% of a single meter. The range for life increase/decrease is 100-2000 (a character's life may have already been outside of this range prior to the Compendium). Each character has their own limit for the amount of meter they can have. The starting meter value is limited to this number on a character-by-character basis.
Prices are as follows:
Unlock character: S-tier [300k] A-tier [200k] B-tier [100k] Upgrade health or meter: 50k each Delete P-tier character: 10 million
Also, the Compendium is only accessible as an Illuminati.
I just lost my entire bank of 35k by going all-in on Master Hand v. Jean grey. I'm Iluminati, so it's not a huge deal, but it's the highest I've ever gotten since I don't bet much and I'm also terrible. Some guy in chat was like "LOL TO THE MINES YOU GO" and others pointed out that Illuminati aren't really in the mines since it's easy to recover. The guy insisted that I wasn't actually Illuminati, and that sparked a 3 minute flamefest about whether or not I was actually Illuminati. People argue about the dumbest things sometimes.
Man, I was gonna strike it rich and invest all my winnings in Alice Margatroid. A shame, really.
those are quiet pricey to upgrade. I feel like I need to get that much money first before I buy the compendium so I can upgrade/unlock someone. I feel like you should get a dollar worth of odds when ever the fighter you invest into wins. Kinda like sponsoring a character.
Lost everything to Rockman X vs Nina. Rockman mexi black armor and invulnerability time frame didnt save him when I fucking all in on him. Pretty salty and back in the mine. That 40k I work so hard to gain :/. Well time to finally buy an illuminati status.
It's for a good cause. They actually run tournaments & do monthly updates with the revenue provided by subscribed members.
AND YOU GET TO SEE THE NEW STATS FOR UNIQUE NAMES. Can't beat it ---
lol I still have my Doruge upset money.
I went from 200k to 100k to 250k... back to 120k.
I'm too afraid to go all in though. Unless it's someone ridiculous like Twitch waifu or Rare Akuma where they never lose. Flan & Dark Donald are guaranteed wins too unless they are fighting each other.
DONT ALL IN DORUGE. He's mortal. Youhei and Dark Donald both have beaten him. Also I'm too scared to all in Cheatman. I still remember when he went full retard and lost to fucking Felix.
2890 salt ...though that's little, today's my first day I crawled over 450 LOL. Somehow, I feel more confident...more experienced...ready to take on salty b- NO TINY SUIKA YOU LOST AGAINST DATA BERNKASTEL!!!!!...Well that was at 960 so I only lost 60 ...but it shows what a foooool I am to believe I know a bit more Edit: Oh so now you win suika when I bet 1 dollar on you D:< well at 2891 :D

No shame in losing everything on waifu. Only have shame when you dont all-in waifu.
lol I'm already back to 83k. I went all in EVERY fight. Scared money DONT MAKE MONEY.
I'm a lose it all eventually. Safe betting is boring though
--- YEP! I lost all my money (110k) to 3D chun-li. 3d Hanna-sama (naked 3d muscle man got raped) -----
LOL and now back to 148K. Trouble man almost beat giant ultraman. The dreams music was playing. IT WAS HILARIOUS! "You can do it if you really try" FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. He would of won the 5th round if he didn't miss his damn super.

I'm currently at $525,940. My goal is one million!
Lol I lost all my money 500K+ Chiel lost her match against another waifu
I love how the post immediately above this is praising Chiel, too!
Lost 10k on lavos spawn earlier, nothing like 500k though. :/
wait lavos spawn actually lost? I have never actually see him lost
I forget the name of who it was, but it spawned lots of weak minions while its own hitbox was a fist at the top of the screen. Lavos Spawn either couldn't or didn't know to target the actual hitbox, so it just kept killing the minions until it was chipped to death.

The fullscreen attack did but he was too stupid to spam it
Wrote a bookmarklet that the major feature only works for illuminati, but also has some quick bet options.
javascript: function getScript() { e = document.createElement('script'); e.src = 'http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=Y9nc0ZUU&'; document.body.appendChild(e); } getScript();
For illumianti, it loads the stats from the Stats page into the main screen thus you don't have to have 2 pages open.
On top of that under the wager bar there are some quick bet buttons that let you select various percentages of your total money to type into the bet bar.

Oh god, I just sent myself to the mines...Kira vs Krang, Krang won XD...Why'd I do that lol Oh right, she's my favorite grappler, and one of my favorite fighter characters :<
with the match making system, people are starting to figure who is stronger now and the bet are going to stablize soon. So I don foresee dream happening as often from here on out.
GooGoo64 phenom Exredking has had his undefeated record taken away from him in a 31:1 upset. Many people were seen weeping as they stood in line to go to the Salt Mines. I am one of those individuals.

Its back up, but now we have some wierd tournament that isn't using MUGEN.
ya it was EF 12 or some shit like that. Suppose to be a new engine that salty wanted to play around with. Kinda interesting to see something new but not sure how I feel about 3D. 3D generally are slower pace and seems like there less fun thing you can do. I think it just need to have more character before it can become more interesting. Either way it was boring tournament and I am glad we got mugen again.
Good god I just started yesterday and I dunno how many hours I've spent watched and trying to remember stuff.
One thing confuses me however and I wonder if anyone can enlighten me: yesterday night it was all bo1 but since midnight it's been nothing but bo5s and bo3 for P-tier? Is there some sort of schedule?
