Good: Back to 16 slots.
Bad: 5 of them in inferiour regions. I can understand 1 slot for NA, but 3 for NA and 2 for ME, while the gods in China and Korea only have 4?

Just guessing possible explanations: Maybe they want to have the same amount of qualification places per region for all of their games? Or maybe, as they are sponsored by some government (iirc), they are obliged to host an international or even worldwide event, and therefore make sure everyone in the world gets a real shot at qualification. Remember, at the olympics, even the best countries only get 2-3 qualifying places per event, so it is not something unheard of. Pick any sport at the olympics and there are always 10% or more hopeless competitors and a nation that could enter hundreds of athletes better than this bottom 10%.

Yeah, they want the spirit of the WCG, apperantly the chinese love that concept. And we still got 1 more european and 2 more koreans then last year. But even for the olympics you need to be able to hit certain times/points to be allowed to go to olympia (outside of wild card invitations by the NOCs). And I dont know if there is any ME player who would fit. But the reason, why it is Korea, China, EU, NA and ME should be rather simple: Possible sponsor out of that new region and WESG, who also used ME/Africa. But even if we say, why NA 3 slots, why ME at all, lets not forget: Highclass Warcraft will be seen in Korean, Chinese and Europe Qualifiers, alot of money and exposure will be given out by WCA over the course of the year and the year will end with a big bang. The Groupstage is back to 16 players and the playoffs should be back to 8 players, maybe again double elimination like 2015, WCA is again kicking ass in bringing high class content. At least if they again do everything with B2W and increase the quality of the production of the main event a little bit, like they do step by step improvements from year to year it seems.

I'm desperate for more GCS/WCA proper news!!! you'll learn that you can care less, since we're having a middle east qualifier OMG ! They are actually doing the middle east qualifier ? FFS WCA what are you doing ! I am saying this as a middle eastern Warcraft 3 fan , this is so wrong , it's gonna fail hardcore , either because there aren't enough players or because the quality of games will be garbage....to be honest I expect both to happen ! For real , all the top middle eastern Warcraft 3 players who could keep up with the Europeans and Americans have all moved to different games , and the ones I talked to are not interested in WCA at all....I do not see any positive in this ME qualifier, unless they are going for the whole WCG style thing , or because they want the ME players in other games like DOTA2 or HS ....and we have some good players in those !

I've been occasionally making melee maps, and as some people here showed some interest a few years (?) back, maybe you want to have a look at it. It's over there at www.hiveworkshop.com, with some screenshots etc. I've been mapping mainly for my own entertainment, but it's always interesting to have some feedback. So feel free to let me know what you think

The patching system is the foundational method for delivering content to the players and the old system has been causing significant problems (The BNUpdate patcher was written in the 1990s with very different architectural goals compared to today's world). For example I fixed the command bar button problem a long time ago (about the same day the community found it) but the old system is so unstable that we couldn't release it without breaking other things. It's like putting on roofing shingles on a house with a nail gun vs a manual hammer; sure the result is the same in the end but one will produce better results much faster. What they mean by architectural goals is to have continuous patches like in the battle.net 0.2 launcher that can't be skipped and are often pseudo DRM. Regardless we're sticking with 1.26 because the game is unplayable on 1.27 if you're not on netease.

Not so sure for w3arena though. It's a great platform but nothing short of a purgatory for newer players and people who aren't very good. I'm mostly interested in this prospect due to the increasing rumours of BW HD. WC3 could be next if that happens, but I'm no longer expecting anything.
