Just saw those games , I have never done my WTF face so hard since ToD's tournament ! I honestly don't see any strategic value in doing that , yeah Infi did that back in WCG 2009 finals, but this attitude towards unfavorable maps or early game hiccups is not befitting a player of his stature.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WC3/comments/6p7c1r/patch_129_changes_revealed_on_netease_homepage/ However, just from the pictures, there will be new versions of some maps: -TS: starting positions going to current goblin lab positions, lab goes to merc camp, merc camp goes to current start position. Bad change imho, takes away one of the unique factors of TS. -PI: now with tavern, merc camp and second ramp to highground expansion. I approve. -Some oldschool map (forgot name) also being featured in the article, for whatever reason.Too big to be played in 1on1 without causing outrage in the community. Dont get too hyped though, i havent found it translated yet. Also I would like to know what you guys expect from blizzard:

So far, I havent found a reliable english summary of the changes. Or is the information on the chinese websites also unconfirmed? In any case, here's how the rumours look to me. -New maps, or more precisely, updates of older maps. AWESOME. (see above) Matches on EI/AI/amazonia all look the same to me. However, if the choose to replace the bigger maps like TR/TM instead of these tiny arenas, it will be byebye wc3 for me. -Race balance changes, no details yet. AWESOME (assuming they dont turn the wrong screws, which I'm strangely optimistic they wont). -Some doodad(?) and/or visual related changes which I have no idea what it means.Possibly the intention is to make starting positions more symmetric. -Itemdrops are apparently greatly reduced in variety. While there seems to be talk about a "reclassification" of items, this seems to not be case; instead there might now be only a few allowed combinations of item drops: https://twitter.com/UgriWC3/status/889431334766075904/photo/1 I dont like this change (if I understand it correctly). While it has positive aspects (for example, the +2/exptome spot on EI will be gone) and most current spots wont be affacted as they fall into these categories anyway, limiting the imbalance by reducing the variety is the wrong way to go for me. For example, a lvl4 permanent item (e.g. vamp aura) can now only drop in combination with a +2/exptome. Why shouldnt it be possible to have a lvl4 item and a +1 tome, or a lvl4+lvl2 item combination? Not sure if this affects watcher runes/heal runes; maybe them not being listed is an oversight, but I hope that they are not gone completely. Imho looking at each spot on the relevant maps should be possible instead. I hope I misunderstood this change. Anyway, as long as we finally get new maps and some (appropriate) balance changes, I'd take this pach immediately even if it comes at the cost of variety in the item department.

Everything I've seen about the item drops has been vague (translated from Chinese) and that tweet doesn't really clarify anything for me. Personally I'd be fine with them massively toning down (or even eliminating) the RNG involved in item drops and then balance the problems that arise from that. Eg. tone down the BM if giving him control over his items makes him OP. Seeing a game won because a BM got Slippers, 2x Claws and Boots of QT is as lame as seeing him lose because he got Cloak, 2x Ring and Magi Robe.

Or did they not get broadcasted by b2w? Edit: Okay, so judging by what was said during the video, there was only one game. :C

I agree that doing something about the RNG would be great. As to what I think (i.e. what my understanding about the changes is, based on google translate/ugrilainen twitter/posts by neo/remo): in the future, there mightl be only the item combinations shown in the ugrilainen tweet. Which seems to outlaw some possibile combinations while not doing much about the problems you stated. There relative appearnace of charged items would increases, naturally at the cost of permanent items. edit: watching the showmatch now. the 3x1+1x3 kobold spot was dropping a circlet, yet the 2x2+1x3 murlocs only a +1 tome. The corner expansion was 2x1 + 3x4 (not 100% sure), dropped ring of regen. Was itemcreeped by bm solo; does this mean he couldve gotten a +9 claw there? Center-close expasions were dropping lvl 4 charged items. Next-totavern creeps are 1x8+2x4 wizards/rogues, dropped lvl 3 charged item. Thats about it for now. So my impression: In general, most creepspots have been upgraded in strength and the others were unchanged. The bigger spots were about balanced, but the smaller spots occasionally dropped items that were higher than anything we have on current maps. Which imho looks like a buff to bm for me. Of course, it was only a single map, which may or may not be final. I very much like the stronger creeps, but about some of these itemdrops.... I'm not sure what to think.
