Really kickass to see high viewership for GCS on the English stream. 3604 viewers, Neo just confirmed that breaks the record. He has the biggest smile on stream now.

Actually, is there a series of tutorial videos that would explain the basic WC3 strategy like this? Kinda like Day[9]'s back to BW series?

The WC3 reddit has a general Getting Started post that contains a gameplay section, might be a good point to get the basics.

-Haunted Goldmine 225 gold, 220(!!!) lumber with no defence capabilities or utility (Great Hall, Town Hall, Tree of Life gives you 10 food + you can teleport onto your expansion to defend it) -If Undead want to defend their expansion with a Town Portal, they need to invest another 255 gold to build a Necropolis. -Your acolytes are exposed to any attempt of harras (The workers cannot dodge projectiles, you cannot fight back, they are a liability, you cannot even long-distance mine to atleast salvage the situation) -Undead cannot create any immediate static defences - it has to be units or you have to first build a Ziggurat (150 gold, 40 lumber) and an upgrade Spirit Tower (145 gold, 40 lumber) or Nerubian Tower (100 gold, 20 lumber). That is a 295 gold, 80 lumber investment for a single tower! In a real game, you need to have a sustainable amount of towers to properly make your opponent think twice of attacking an expansion. If you add up the cost: Necropolis + Haunted Gold Mine + 3 Towers (2 Spirit Towers + 1 Nerubian Tower) = 1020 gold and 360 lumber. You need to make 1020 gold back for your investment to be worth it. That is the cost for an expansion, where your gold miners are exposed to any attempt of harras. Another important aspect is that - for all other races than Undead - you cannot substitute lumber workers into gold workers. So you have to pay additional gold to compensate for any dead Acolytes, which further increases the investment. I hope, that is an explanation for why Undeads never expand.

Given how far esport has come since, WCG definitely needs to move on with the times. The one-nation-a-single-team principle they had seems to be at odds with the multi-national teams we have in dota and lol, assuming they will include them at all. And if they want to, they also need quite some money to attract the big name players.

Sure it did ok to imitate the "olympics" feeling, but at the same time it often felt horribly amateurish and in wc3 had some rather questionable tournament schedules with bo1 groupstages.
