Hi. I played spammed LRMs in this game back in 2012 and then kinda lost interest shorty after closed beta. Now I heard (more or less by accident) that they add the King Crab which is my favourite mech of all time, so I'm mildly interested to give another try.
If have two questions:
- Will it be possible to buy the King Crab for MC or what do I have to do to get it?
- How much of a rough start will it be to get back into the game with my mechs equipped for the fall 2012 meta? What have they added or fundamently changed since then?

Right when I start playing again,
Community Warfare
launches with todays patch :D
First matches where groups of 12 smashing random people (with me being on the random site), but at least it was in some context. I love it :D

So I missed the first bit of CW (exams and all). How'd it go? Liao did best, I take it from the website?

Have only seen the clan front, but Jade Falcon (Lords) and Ghost Bears (STS + alliances) are taking planets every day and holding what they take. Liao has lost 8 planets so far. Most IS houses have lost a bunch of planets, half the clan factions have lost planets (to other clans) and 2 clan factions are gobbling up the northern innersphere. I hear the IS vs IS front is quite active as well, which is all fine for us clanners :D
here's a link to a series of battle reports of each day in CW so far
so I counted the net gain of planets based on the reports and so far it is:
Federated Suns (Davion) +11 Clan Ghost Bear +9 Clan Jade Falcon +5 Free World's League (Marik) +3 Clan Wolf +1 Clan Smoke Jaguar +1 Free Rasalhague Republic -3 Capellan Conferedation (Liao) -8 Draconis Combine (Kurita) -9 Lyran Commonwealth (Steiner) -10

Rock on Davion. Makes my day.
Edit: It seems like Steiner/Davion are not formally allied? Is this permanent? I actually talked my Steiner friend into playing with my Davion group for CW... I mean, I guess I can RP provocateurs fighting against the alliance on either side and take defense contracts but not attacks or something...

CW is really cool but I wont play it anymore until they make it possbile to see who else is in queue for a planet with you. Waiting so long without even seeing if anyone else is there is just bs. Once this happens and they also offer comparable CB awards this feature should become much more popular.

Yeah it seems like the test highlighted the things they need to complete it which are (correct me if I'm wrong) faction chat channels and deployment indicators (who's fighting/queueing as a single display to make sure planets are effectively contested). Still kinda awesome to see the Clan steamroller coming and Liao getting wrecked like the green cartoon villains they are.

Was just listening to Lords (Jade Falcons) war planning via stream, which planets they want to take, which fronts just to hold etc. And it was pretty awesome how serious they are about racing the Wolves to Terra. :D
Sounded like pretty bad things coming for Steiner (my faction) though lol.

If you join Liao you can get very easy into IS vs. IS battles - you can basically defend against Davion all the time who have overwhelming numbers unfortunately.

Well apparently you guys are upping merc payment... Will be interesting to see if that helps.
It's awesome how into the CW everybody is getting, even with how unhappy the Steiners/Liao seem to be. I really hope the Steiner/Davion alliance gets made formal to take a least a little pressure off our beloved, if incompetent, little brothers.

No need! - it's kinda canon for the confederation to have it a little bit rough due low numbers. I actually like it as a Liao player. ^^
also - like canon - we try to get a cease fire working with marik (on reddit, mwo forums and other places). it seems to have paid off already as day 6 was the first day we stopped the bleeding and even gained some territory :D

Did some CW yesterday to defend House Steiner and you could really feel what the problem is for that faction. I had matches against 5 different attacking factions over the course of 2 hours. Steiner is the only faction that has borders with 6 other factions, and all of them were attacking. For Jade Falcons alone Steiner would need all its forces since the Falcons have Lords and almost only fight vs Steiner. Then if you have 5 more factions on top to defend against it is just not doable. Many attacks meet no resistance at all.
Another problem is that some of the bigger Steiner units (12th Donegal, Tamar Jäger) are German and they are almost useless since they stop playing long before cease fire time and whatever they did gets rolled back then.
edit: There is some relief in sight though. Some Wolves have decided that they want to deal with the arrogant Falcons and have entered a 2 week ceasefire with Steiner. Also there is a non-agression pact with Davion now. Although there still might be problems with rogue groups that will not adhere to the ceasefire.

Mercstar moved over to Davion for a week, so the bear brigade slowed down quite a bit and Davion got a boost. Let's see after this week once they return to the fold

I'm having so much fun with CW. Actually playing outside of an organized 12-man is really fucking hard, but the Davion/Marik border in particular is a ton of fun. Haven't been a fan of drops against Clan; it's ok, not great on the hot map, but on the cold map they have some insane advantages. But IS fights are great.
And, as almost the more important bonus, the standard queue has way fewer organized teams in it. My KDR in normal shot up dramatically after CW.

You might find more success with the Goons in the SA thread.

I ran with the Skye Rangers during the Tukkayid event, they seemed pretty chill, would recommend them as well. We were playing for Inner Sphere if that matters.

I still play every now and again. If you're looking for people to play with, join na1.mech-connect.net on teamspeak. There's always a couple of guys online eager to group up.
