hes pretty trash now, the cd reset on his ult makes him extremely useless if the opposing team has an interrupt (which they always do)
the only time i pick him is when the other team doesnt have any interrupts (or very little), that being said ive been testing barrel roll vs odin and its been working out pretty nicely.

Chen is like Thrall in ways. He's noticeably weaker in the current meta and just gets wrecked by CC.
Before, you could flying kick in to initiate on a focus target, root them, get a strong first auto attack, smash, fire breath, and when the enemy team turns on you, you pop your ult and laugh. Between his ult and resurgence, he was basically never not in a fight. He was a very strong initiator. Now, with how heavy the meta is on damage and CC, you flying kick in, do your stuff, and then promptly die as your ult gets interrupted. So, you basically can't dive with Chen anymore. And, his level 20 talents aren't great so replacing resurgence is a headache.
It's kind of like the Anub'arak problem where the rewind removal screwed him hard because you can't burrow charge to engage, pop your ult and shield to sustain, rewind, pop your shield again for even more sustain, and then burrow charge out to retreat in a pinch. It's similar in that it's just very difficult to stay in the fight and warriors need to be able to stay in the fight to be relevant.
Compared to a hero like Tyrael who has risen in the meta. He's an incredibly strong initiator with Judgement's range, stun, and displace, but he has the added escape of Eldruin, an instant group shield rather than a delayed individual shield, cast aside for further displacement, a decent level 20 talent option, and blood for blood which is always amazing. When you take away Chen's second life bar from panda pals, Tyrael is just better in every way.
So in a meta with a lot of 1 tank comps, there is just no room for a Chen pick.

I'm new to the game and literally have no one to play with so add me Imm on everyday! Battletag: UFO#1363

About rising in the meta - according to hotslog in EU Master League Anub'Arak, Kerrigan, AutoSelect and Tyrande are the most succesful heroes. I guess that includes quick matches or did I miss some special tactics with Anub? Kerrigan gank squads and Tyrande seem somewhat more believeable.
Edit: Just saw that they have a lot less games played, so that makes more sense.

Any advice on playing valla? Finally unlocked every talent but for the most part i have no idea what happens in the game
|
Multishot build seems safest way to play Valla, ult depends on sitiuation - they have few interupts and you have healer that can back you up - Strafe, if they have heroes that desperatly need to be stuned/interupted take Vengance. You want to take spellshield if vs heavy nuke heroes (Nova for example).
Don't go for "autoattack builds" unless you know what you are doing couse more often than not you will end up being completly useless.

I came back to play the game once more but so far i haven't got a chance to roll the new map yet. also abathur noooooooo, I just bought him and what happened to his ulti T T

Been trying out the game for the last couple of days and it seems cool. Have no idea what im doing at this point tho
I'll add myself in the form from the OP if anyone non-serious wants to play on EU

Thanks it's been working well, talent gating is frustrating though, i hate having to "waste" games by going suboptimal builds. Other than that the game is starting to grow on me, i can't justify spending the time for a dota game anymore so this is a good replacement. It's kind of hard to learn while playing though, most of the time i get bursted / cced by some spells and i would like to know what killed me but as far as i know it's impossible to do it during the game. When i learned dota2 i pretty much learned everything while playing, by reading the tooltips of the spells that killed me or by clicking on ennemy heroes and reading what their abilities did ... i think it's really a shame that you can't do that in league and hots, it really makes learning the game a much smoother experience.

On January 27 2015 00:03 Razhil wrote:I join on the Valla discussion. I'm mainly playing Valla (my MMR on Hotslogs is around 2k5 - 2k7) and I think you should be picking your build depending on enemy team AND maps. Everything below is my humble opinion. My favorite build is this AA build : http://www.heroesfire.com/hots/talent-calculator/valla#rrB0It gives really high sustain and make it really hard for anybody to 1v1 you once you got your 10+10 stacks rolling. It works good on Garden & Mines because most teamfights will happen around creeps/objectives where you may hopefully have stacks already pilled up before the teamfight. Otherwise it helps getting the objective faster than another build. On Crow & Blackheart, I'd go for Multishot build as a safer way to stale the objective capture and because there tend to be a lot more pokes before teamfights there. On Dragon & Temple, I'll take according to the teams as being able to win skirmish in smaller numbers is often better. AA build is often better in my experience because sustain let you live. My lvl16 talent is highly dependant on teams, whatever my build. Double Vault is really useful againt a Dive heavy team or even a single The Hunt Illidan. Executionner can be pick if you need high DPS and the team provide a lot of CC/slows (Jaina and Arthas come first to my mind, easily enabling executionner on the whole enemy team. Other heroes with AoE slows are also good.) I tried BfB a few time but I find the impact too low and the CD too high (or it simply doesn't fit my playstyle). I also pick ultimate depending on maps. If not enough CC, I'll pick Rain, otherwise I'll go Strafe except on Crow & Garden where a lot of fight happen in the jungle where it's easier to stun multiple people with Rain and harder to dodge stuff while strafing.

Been Heroes again, and it's pretty fun for a casual guy like me. I think I will main Zeratul, Uther and Muradin, as I really like them. Will have to do dailies to get gold for Uther though.

My problem with auto attack Valla is it takes a long time to build up to being useful. With the W build you gain some lane bully ability and can get picks off retreats if they misjudge your range while retreating to gate. At 4 you gain a ton of lane clear and very good team fight damage. At 7 you are now throwing out Arsenal W's all the time. At 13 your build is basically complete. With auto attack you pretty much have to wait until 13 until you are dangerous in fights. And honestly until 16 and get double vault can you play not completely scared all the time.
It just feels like the W build you are good at 4 and really good at 7. With the auto build it really isn't until 16 that you're really good. And with now snowbally this game can be on certain maps the game could be lost by the time you can really start being dangerous.

Played for a good week now and not regretting my purchase of the founder's pack one bit. The game is good fun and in some ways I enjoy the shorter game length. I miss the epics of Dota sometimes but they were rare against a lot of being stuck in a crap game for way too long.
I love the use of different maps which is a really good concept for a moba, they all feel at least a little bit different. Heroes are again mostly interesting. One of my main gripes are with the tooltips which don't give any percentages or numbers, not sure about being unable to click on anything else to see its stats either, feels like it should be available lf you want it too how else would I work out the stats of creatures etc. improve (am I missing an option here?).
A lot of the talents are obviously copied from hero to hero, there seems like a decent level of variety but perhaps could be more. At high levels are there a good number of garbage talents? Certainly feels like this would be the case. Most heroes I've tried so far have some kind of interesting skills shot which adds a bit of individual satisfaction, heroes with passages and single target point and clicks quickly get boring for me although I appreciate the skill involved in picking the right targets and positioning which are still required. I found lili a little dull for this reason, not much targeting seems to go on with her skills. I don't know if plans are to introduce many more heroes and maps before release. Definitely think more of both would be a big plus at this stage.
Looking for some good vods of tournaments/hero guides etc. anywhere good for this?

Probably your best bet for info on hero builds and strategy is to ask around here. There's a lot of crap on Reddit and heroesfire that you'll have to learn to wade through.

Damn I love ETC. There, I said it.

Change to whatever hero you want and master league. Sometimes you have to do a small amount of thinking since heroes have talents with two options around 40% usage. Think about what each one provides and which one is better for your current team composition or ask for opinions.

I wonder if it's a priority for them to improve the micro in this game. Played some Kerrigan matches and the micro mechanic for the Ultralisk was kind of hilarious like LoL-style control. Being that it's based off the same engine as SC2 I'd hope they expand it somewhat (control groups and additional skills on summons for example). I know yadayada burden of knowledge, more accessible gameplay blahblahblah but having just a few high apm characters shouldn't be that bad as long as they're not OP?
Just to confirm, zerglings can't be controled at all, right? It's probably obviously not but it also took me 10 minutes to google how to control the Ultralisk so...
