A change of course for the project team..
To those who have been closely following the project there have been a number who have asked and messaged us about why the sudden stop of all development news on the NetstormII site.
I just want to bring everyone up to-date on what has been happening with the team and project.
Last fall we asked the original head of Titanic Entertainment to contact Activision on our behalf about the possibility of getting an official license for the fan remake Netstorm II. Unfortunately, due to lack of interest from Activision, it didn't work out. So we went back to the drawing board, and after many internal team meetings and consultations we agreed that the project would proceed under a new name and game world, along with adjustments to game unit meshes to avoid any copyright and IP problems that might arise to further develop the new game into a fully polished RTS game.
Things to take note about the new direction: game play will still be set on floating islands in the sky with battling priests leading their tribes to victory, and game mechanics will remain basically the same but with some new improvements. Also as part of adjusting buildings and some units to avoid some IP issues the team will be bringing the original head art director onto the team as a special consultant adviser. She shaped the art direction and style of the original Netstorm game and this will give our new world the same type of art style.
Also, as we move forward with developing the new IP the development will be handled by the newly established studio "Storm Isle Productions". This new small Indi studio will be focused on breathing new life into an old game style and bringing it up to-date...
As part of developing the new game and ensuring a growing user base we will be working to ensure the game is fully compatible with Kongregate games so users who already have player accounts on Kongregate will be able to use existing accounts. The game will also be available at a later date through Steam..
We have already lined up initial basic project funding backing that will be helping the team ready our showcase demo for kickstarter, allowing us to get a polished build together before we showcase the new world for the kickstart which will help us develop some of the more advanced features we have planned.
Once we are nearer to launching the kickstarter we will unveil some of the perks contributors will get access to for backing our kickstart..
For everyone on the team these are very exciting times and we are looking forward to working with some of the original development team of Netstorm in bringing forth a new world to the players like you reading this.
We will be shutting down the NestormIIHQ website and moving project development over to a new site Storm Isle Productions site that will be launched soon.

I was following the previous thread with some interest as I absolutely love Netstorm. Thanks for the update, although it's bad news. I'm really sorry it didn't work out for you.
I have to ask though, did you actually expect to monetize the game with how protective every IP holder has to be of their IPs?
And could you explain what you mean by 'compatible with Kongregate games'? Apart from the typical flash games the games on their site seem pretty fishy.

Loved the original netstorm, in my opinion that game is even more hardcore than SCBW(=O).
Looking forward to what comes out of this.
|
Seems like good news to me! Shame that activision didnt bite, but its great that you can proceed regardless Best of luck, Storm Isle Productions!!
|
Netstorm is a very worthy cause, very first computer game I bought : )
I wish you the best of luck
|
|
Our kickstarter started to get a trickle of people coming in to back it
|
What you're doing is really cool and I wish you the best of luck, but I don't see why I would spend money on something that already exists. Netstorm is perfectly playable online and you can still find players for it...

Ain, in many ways there were a number of features planned for the original Netstorm that but never were implemented also the NS community is fading as people drift away to newer games..
Take into account the original developers that made Netstorm are now working on this spiritual reboot of Netstorm style gameplay and helping us shape the new world.
Some of the features that will be included are.
1. guild systems for better managing teams for competitive play competitions. 2. Improved Priest ranking and leveling system. 3. player customization of priest in-game with outfits to give unique look for players priest. 4. Integration into Kongregate game user accounts to allow for solid stable user base of players which also allows for award badges and ranking. 5. Planned for customization feature for players home islands in battle lobby. 6. Priest spell system redone for improvement and linked with the Tempests favor system. 7. AI planned for skirmish random maps in MP down the road. 8. game play in a fully true 3D world to inspect battle from all levels
We aim to create a game better then NS with features many wanted but never got implemented.

Guys just wanted to let you know we have now reached 11k on our kickstarter as we push towards our 50k set goal for development. We also did some adjustments on the kickstarter page to go into detail a little better about gameplay for those who never might have played Netstorm and not know what gameplay is inspired by.

Guys small update the DOTS team have been busy with working out new design concepts for the ice cannon and "Rain" faction power generators and art team this morning sent in two new promo concept sketches of the new "Rain" faction power generator re-designs. We are currently trying to settle on which one is the best but we wanted to release the promo pics of the two current designs for the public to see a little of how the rain faction look is shaping up.
We also are releasing a look of the new Ice Cannon attack unit we are working on the design...
Earlier we had uploaded a picture of the new rain creature air unit spawn pool which will spawn rain based air unit that will attack any enemy units in a radius from the spawn pool..
Check out our new designs and be sure to drop us a message and let us know what you think

Oh damn! I missed the kickstarter Great new stuff! Keep up the good work!

|
After several weeks of back and forth with the art team and modeling team we at Storm Isle Productions are pleased to showcase the first look of the newly modeled and textured Rain faction "Ice Cannon" with the initial model done we will be implementing it into a coming build for further demonstrating of the new unit model in-game soon...

Everything is looking pretty cool so far. Keep it up looking forward to the game. Maybe I'll be at least decent at this game unlike netstorm
|
With a whirling blur the ice barricade spun slowly up, the arms of the barricade snaking around as the enemy units between the two barricades vanished in a mist as if the units were themselves torn between the barricades and became one with the mist.
All that stand before the acid barricade dissolve! the Rain faction now adds the acid barricade to finished unit models now being implemented ingame.
|
First look of the new initial rain faction units now in-game, The team is still working on adjusting scaling..
We are currently finalizing the new rain workshop design and should be getting it modeled in coming week..
|
I'm anticipating this game It's a shame I did not notice the kickstarter back when it was attempted. I feel the core mechanics of this game can be on par with starcraft 2 on levels of strategic depth.
Good luck from the Netherlands and keep us updated! <3

Sorry to bump this, I am highly interested in this game. I want to know where it's at. Is it almost done, is it released, can I play a early version of it?
Please reply.
