hm, I thought they didn't give out review-copies. Or did they just not give them to youtubers? I really don't trust Polygon and IGN at all but since other reviewers are giving it good scores it seems that this could actually be good. Would be awesome to have a good LotR game

WB sent out PS4 review copies very early to media outlets and lifted review embargos yesterday, it is genuinely good not only from media reviews but also from experience of early console players.

me too, I suspect the high rating is mostly due to the franchise. that being said, from the trailer, everything is looking good. I find the combat camera angle looks a bit struggling and character facial expression rather poor, other than that, looks great
I went ahead and preordered it. First game I have in a very long time... Got the season pass as well first time I've ever done that. I haven't been this excited for a game since Diablo3 and most of us know how that went :|.

I would say it might be one hyped up reviewer who really liked the game, but all the reviews are saying its really enjoyable and has a really dynamic system for your enemys and their social structure.
I'm willing to take it at face value. After all, everyone thought batman: Arkham Asylum was going to be trash before we got our hands on it.
Does this require internet all the time? ala destiny or?
If not I'm definitely buying and playing this. Have some downtime and want a chill single player game to no-life for a few days and the timing is perfect.

It's not actually a franchise, other than being set in the LotR universe everything is new.

Other than the challenge mode leaderboards everything is completely offline, it's a traditional single player only action game.
Pre-ordered this. It's probably a mistake: as a rule of thumb, I only buy games when they can provide me with at least 1 hour/euro worth of entertainment, and I doubt this is a kind of game you can play for 50 hours, except if gameplay mechanics are really enjoyable. So, that's what I'm banking on, gameplay mechanics being awesome. From the videos, it did look fluid and free-flowing. And the Nemesis thing seems really cool.
I'm a bit worried about some comments regarding the less than engaging main story. Personally I find myself getting bored of these types of games unless there is a compelling story to drive it along, even for open world games. Sometimes the characters themselves have it in them to be compelling enough but that's a rare happening (Like the Last of Us, a generic plot but with really interesting and well written characters. And yes, I know that's not an open world game, just an example).
I can see how they would be able to spin that, though. The 9 rings given to men turned them into wraiths, so it's feasible that channelling the magics into the rings may have had similar effects on Celebrimbor, despite him being an elf. I'm really interested in checking out the storyline in The Bright Knight to see what is actually going on though.
