Well, they aren't calling it open beta. But, it no longer takes a beta key to play, so anyone can play, so it basically is.
For those who don't know, Hex is basically an online trading card game (not just a CCG like Hearthstone, you actually own the cards here). It is extremely similar to magic, but has some differences you will notice. As of now the game is just PVP but a complete PVE side is coming in the future.
WARNING: The game is already a little buggy, and with a giant influx of players it is likely to be even more buggy for a week or 2.

Oh, and I would like to add a little something. I just want to say that this game can be a little buggy and the software can be a little clunky(especially compared to hearthstone). But, I play this game religiously. It is way way more fun to me than hearthstone and even though it's only 1 set I actually enjoy it more than MTG. The game is improving and has been since I started playing 2 months ago, and I am pretty sure it is only going to get better. Also, support/the community/the dev team are all awesome.

Nice, I've been waiting to try out this game. Downloading right now! Thanks for sharing, I would've most likely miss it otherwise I think.

Just so you know Cryptozoic (the guys who made Hex) are being sued by Wizards of the Coast (MTG people) for patent/trademark/copyright infringement stuff. Depending on how the case goes it could have a serious effect on if Hex will continue to operate.
It really is very similar to MTG except it actually has a digital UI that is not complete shit so go for it

Just when I got really into another card game >_>
Oh well might as well play both.

It's a good game. Of course a lot of that is based on being so close to Magic. Would be cool to have a liquidhex site like liquidhearth at some point. Game has a lot of depth to explore and I haven't found a lot of quality websites for up to date deck lists and discussions.

this looks interesting. As long as I can play a style similar to MTG legacy's mid range or tempo (think RUG delver or my favorite deck, Jund), i'll be playing this

I've looked into this a bit and while I am no lawyer, WoTC's case sounds extremely flimsy. And the case will be incredibly time consuming anyways (years).
BTW anyone who wants help with the game my name is thugtown in game you can add me or pm me here.
I will warn everyone you will get nowhere near top decks without investing at least some money.
You can make a budget deck free to play if you really grind, though. To do that, get the cards of all the starter decks and do the full trials for all of them.
Otherwise the best way to work up to a t1 deck with a small money investment is to study the commons/uncommons, get extremely good at competitive draft, and go infinite. not many players can do this but some do.

Is there any money in card trading in this game?

there are players who have opened online shops where they sell cards or packs
If you mean playing the auction house, I am sure it is possible but would not be worth the effort. If you mean actually just trading through mail.. possibly if you really are good at it and work but the player base is small so it would be tough. More likely you could in the future. Also right now it isn't legit trading, it is just mailing, so it is possible to get scammed if you don't know the person.

I think if it was directly with money it would be considered gambling and illegal. You can play constructed/draft for packs and platinum, which is worth money. You win packs, which you could potentially sell for real money. There are players who do this.
However, even a great player would make an extremely low hourly wage.
But the game is new.. I think there will be stuff for higher stakes in the future. I know that the company is extremely big on supporting esports.

Are constructed queues actually popping now? I invested in a really cool BS control deck and the queues never fire lol

They occasionally pop, after a wait.
But the big influx of players is going to be happening during this week (it just went open beta hours ago). So in a few days they are likely to pop more.
They are also more active at prime hours, and on weekends.
warning. constructed is filled with sharks with t1 decks.
that will probably change a little bit with open beta though

Is there a way to make a minimalist type of UI for playing? Im thinking of cockatrice where everything is quite simiplifed and i can just focus on the gameplay + save some FPS

No, people have asked for this but there are no ways to mod the UI. I don't even think we can play windowed. There are a lot of features missing from the game still.

There's a windowed mode, I play it that way so that I can actually use my second monitor while playing

Drafting too scary [[
Can you set out with a goal of drafting a certain shard (it feels daunting to investigate all shards right away) or do I need to have a good grasp of the overall set to be able to draft properly?
|
Well that depends on your goals. Drafting is very cost effective on this game, and it's actually worth it to just rare draft (grab all rares) and then just try to win match 1 of competitive draft with whatever you happen to have.
If you manage to pick up a bomb try to draft around it.
But yeah.. you can focus on specific colors if you want, though you won't be good enough to go infinite probably.
I tend to lean towards blood or wild/ruby. I really have never gone wrong with mono blood if they let me draft it. It has the strongest common removal (terrible transfer so good.. plus murder), and has probably the best common (corpse fly), and darkspire priestess is very good.. and some good uncommons too.
Wild ruby is great because wild has very efficient creatures and wild aura, and ruby has some other good creatures and ruby aura. Plus ruby has pump (pyrmonacer and crushing blow). I think those 2 synergize well.
People can win with any shards though, so top tier drafting is pretty complicated.

The game looks fun but I probably got spoiled by Solforge generous F2P options. The game looks super restrictive if you don't throw money at it which is a shame with the alternative options around.
