Let's be real, they were delaying it anyway. They were pretty clear it would go into February but mid-January was their pie in the sky hope. Just glad to hear we're getting something out of it.

i hope the new game mode is some kind of PvE thing.

PVE? I know a lot of people have asked for that kind of stuff, do you mean like a Campaign or Mann vs Robot mode from TF2?
|
ya, some variant of man v. robot mode from TF2. i think Blizz has already said "no" to any kind of campaign. and i doubt my hope of PvE will be realized... but i can always dream

They will have to improve their AI for any kind of PvE first. But they have a pretty good team when it comes to that. If Overwatch has a huge enough Playerbase, I could see stuff like this happen.
|
Yeah, I can imagine a PVE update a few years down the line, but right now they should focus on the game features and stuff. And right now more variety and game types are paramount.
|
Unfortunately they've kind of designed themselves into a corner with the game modes. The whole game is built around 6v6 teamfights, and because of that it will be difficult to make any game modes that aren't fundamentally revolving around that paradigm. The best they can do is work in game modes that involve using flankers more and splitting up the teams into smaller groups.

So I think it is only this higher price if you order a physical copy directly from Blizzard. A digital copy from Blizzard in Canada is still $59.99 USD.
this has now been corrrected on the Battle.Net web site. the price is now the expected $59.99 USD.

Eh, probably for practice, I really really doubt they're spending any time on PVE encounters like Mann vs Machine when the game is supposed to launch soon, and it'd be best to make more modes/multiplayer content.

Maybe I'll get in this time :O

I've been eager to get back in since the stress test. It took me a while to warm up to the game but by the end I was having so much fun and was really impressed with the game

finally, some good news.

they could've been working on AI bots for a long while already.
most full priced console games have some kind of single player mode. it'll be interesting to see how good the AI is. Also, a good AI bot can be used to replace players who quit early in the game when their team is trailing. People quitting early will be an issue when a more casual audience arrives.
i can see Blizzard creating some kind of single player mode that gets console-casuals ready for teh multiplayer arena shark-tank.
