Thought I'd throw a thread up here for people to talk about the MIOM rankings. Right now, we're on Day 5 and through to Rank 51! Here are all of the links thus far:
100-91 90-81 80-71 70-61 60-51 50-41
Some placings of note to me: LordHDL (87th), Cyrain (74th), s0ft (64th), slox (62nd), Vanz (59th), Ken (58th) Zanguzen (46th).
In general, really interesting to see how far some folks have fallen and how well new players are placing. Definitely shows that the skill ceiling is still growing fast and that new blood is doing great things for the scene.

I'm kind of shocked Ken is still rated 42nd.

Yeah, he's really making a strong return to competitive play. Really interested to see where he is in a year from now.

Even 58th, it's impressive considering how long he was out of the scene for.

The exclusion of europeans (undestandably so) is what really interests me. If remen is ranked so decently, how would a lot of other really good european players who consistently beat him do if they came to the states? Just interesting to think about.

Nice, was just wondering a week ago whether we would get a new list or not.

Updated with today's release.
Shoutouts to Zanguzen for 46th. He's definitely a huge threat here in Tristate and consistently finishes well. Interesting to see Kage drop down several slots, especially considering he beat SFAT and Westballz at APEX.

A lot of the list so far is questionable IMO, but a large part of that is due to the ranking system and how #80 and #60 separated by 0.3 points or whatever.
Personal thoughts:- Connor is too low lol
- Remen too high considering his American results. If we take into consideration his European placements it might be justified, but we aren't, so he shouldn't even really be on there. He won an MLG qualifier over Kou (didn't play aMSa in the process), then lost all his sets at MLG and went 0-2 in SSS bracket. So it becomes an issue of how strictly MIOM adheres to the guidelines they put out.
- I'm finding it weird that so many players attended no major tourneys yet can be placed above those that did, and did well at them. Looking mainly at ZoSo here for today's update. I haven't heard from the guy at all in 2014 yet he still maintains Top 50 status based on what I assume are locals and name recognition.
- Ken is doing really well compared to last year (where he was ranked too low anyway), but I dunno how he'll keep it up. Dota 2 and Smash 4 seem to be his main focuses right now and he isn't really taking advantage of being in SoCal to practice with the real good players.
- So many new players is cool to see. Emphasises how the bottom 50 are pretty much a crapshoot on any given day, with several exceptions.

I'll just post the semiautomatically-updating image instead of uploading to imgur
Zoso is definitely being put there for his local results loool All he did this year was beat up on Mafia / MDZ / ycz / Crush etc :^) He did ok-ish at the SSS he went to though
|
Why is BizzaroFlame so low? He has a lot of good results and I've seen him do well against some really good players.

The bottom 50 so are probably relatively interchangeable based on how well they're playing on that day / the matchup / etc. This voting system is, tbh, not very accurate except as an idea of what "tier" a player is in.
I don't think Bizz has that many notable wins this year (a few good ones some over some Socal / Norcal players, but that's about it.)

what a jump for kzhu and zero

My boy Swedish Delight representing Rutgers at 56 :D Ken with a big jump and KDJ falling down a bit is to be expected. Mostly I'm excited to see the top 20 now

did anybody catch this pun
The one thing that remains constant is his own ability to stay afloat, always being able to compete with the best in his extremely stacked region.

the blurbs seemed more hastily written this year, lol
speaking of last year, here's a table and rating vs rank scatter plot for 2013:

I didn't... still don't
isn't that from Hugs decription?
Also: surprised Chu is still that far up, when was his last tournament showing? And wizzrobe's placing is incredible... 29th out of nowhere
|
United States10328 Posts
Chu got 33rd, 29th, 9th, 17th at APEX, MLG, CEO, and EVO respectively. (It's all in my spreadsheet linked earlier!!)
Wizzrobe is rising really fast; I think he deserves his rank.
|
yeah, guess I forgot his showing straight away :D So many oldschool players still in this list! Love it!
Oh wow, finally found the results listing on the spreadsheet :D failfail... also somehow forgot that they list those in the ranking! Those aren't very current results though, Evo is half a year ago... haven't seen him alot since then i believe.
edit2: checked his wiki he's been to a couple of tournaments, winning 3 and loosing to chillin, nintendude and vist, getting second and 7th at not so big tournaments... So yeah... i guess he's placed pretty accurately
I wonder how many european players we'll see... Remen is 72nd.... Amsah, Ice, Over, Baxon, Jeapie are all players i'd consider to be better or at least just as good, only difference is they didn't randomly win an MLG qualifier :D
and no Japanese players in the ranking at all yet? Or did I miss someone?

aMSa is going to be top 25 for sure; unfortunately Flash came too late (post TBH4) to be ranked :/

A lot of players that deserve to be between like 50-30 from EU, but it's hard to compare it all if you don't attend tournaments in both scenes regularly.

Shoutouts to Lil Fumi! SD fighting ^^

It seems to be just players that have made waves in NA, not really taking into consideration the PAL and JP scene. + Show Spoiler +rightly so, they're different games
|

JP still plays NTSC though, haha
It's mainly because the scene is "biggest" in NA, so they want to rank players relative to NA players, but can't really do that unless EU/JP/SA people come to NA to play
|
silent wolf is 15th. wtf... and colbol is cracking top 10??

PP gonna be 5th since he's basically been afk. Mango 1 Armada 2. This summer kinda proved that.
Either Hbox or M2k at 3rd. Probably Hbox since he's performed the best against the rest of the Gods. Leffen 6 just in terms of gun to your head, who's most likely to take a set off top 5. Hax 7th. West 8th.
|
Wes at 9th pretty much locks in Axe at 8th, Hax at 7th, Leffen 6th. We'll see how much PP is penalized by not playing much. Imo he should be 5th solely for that reason but you never know. M2k over Hbox as well imo and top 2 has been known all along no debate there
|
Hax 8th, it was revealed earlier accidentally

Eh while M2K can take sets off Mango in smaller nationals, Hbox has take bo5's off both him and Armada this year.
Then again Hbox has dropped a couple sets to tier 2 foxes recently (so has M2k) but I'm not sure if this was pre or post voting.
|
Has at 8th revealed officially now. I guess Axe is 7th then. Don't really agree but his MLG and Evo were both better than Hax so I guess it's hard to argue. M2k hasn't beaten Armada in a bo5 this year but he did beat him in a bo3. He beat every other member of the top 5 in various tournaments. He struggled vs PP early in the year, then beat him at MLG. He beat Armada and Mango at SKTAR and just had really good placings at every event (except DYFWI) whereas H-box had a bad MLG and TBH4. It's obviously close and both sides have super valid points so it's not like I can say definitively that m2k deserves the 3 spot it's just my opinion.
Knowing the way the votes have gone so far I really think M2k is gonna be super penalized by losing to SW and Fiction. He may even be 5th if PP isn't penalized for being absent a lot

If you look at the ratings, Hax/Axe are pretty much interchangeable
(reposting image from last page)
I sorta want to group people into tiers now that the data is mostly revealed...
Some tiers have multiple "sub-tiers" but I don't want to add a ton of +'s / -'s to the ends... 1-6? SS 7?-8 S 9-13 S- 14-16, 17-20 A+ 21-24 A 25-29, 30-32 A- 33-43, 44-49 B+ 50-65 B 66-82, 83-92, 93-100 (and maybe a bit more, but we can't see them) B-

Love seeing Axe perform so well. Never had bigger nerd chills than his 4 stock of Silent Wolf

Welp PP 3rd m2k 4th. Was the only thing really in doubt in the top 6 imo. Now time for people to start earning next year's ranks!
