http://worldofwarships.com/en/content/game/The highly anticipated World of Warships is the latest free, historical online combat game to be added to the Wargaming’s catalog. Command a massive naval fleet featuring history's most iconic war vessels, level up important tech modules and prepare to dominate the oceans in World of Warships. With four classes of ships, myriad upgrades, strategically designed environments the action never ends and every match is a unique experience. Endless hours of strategy, tactical gameplay and pulse pounding combat await all who take the helm in World of Warships! Aircraft carriers — A multi-role ship that brings a RTS-style gameplay to the fight. Loaded with four styles of aircraft (Dive Bombers, Torpedo Bombers, Scouts and Fighters) and the ability to command multiple squadrons, carriers can shape the fight from the skies. Destroyers — These versatile vessels are perfect for hunting enemy cruisers, spotting them for teammates to target or blowing them out of the water personally. Additionally, the anti-aircraft guns that line their deck offer another line of defense against high flying threats. Cruisers — Lightly armored but swift, cruisers are the fastest, most maneuverable ship available. This class is a major threat on the open water, dealing damage from either massive cannons or deadly torpedoes. Battleships — These are the designated "heavy hitters" of World of Warships. Massive cannons, thick armor and rows of anti-aircraft artillery make them a deadly “triple threat” in any battle.
The game is now in Open Beta, and I figure I create a thread to discuss the game. Several topics of discussion could be:
- overpowered/underpowered ships for its tier
- strategies for ships and tech lines
- strategies for maps and game modes
- division/fleet gameplay
- qq about rng screwing you over

If you want to division up, I'm caelym in game. I'm currently working up the japanese cruiser tech line, and I have up to tier 7.

Been watching alot of streams with this lately and it looks like alot of fun. Hoping to get a key when they open up the beta further!

Joined the beta for this a few weeks back. It's definitely fun and really well done. Plays a lot like you'd expect it to coming from World of Tanks myself. Game's gorgeous too.
Only problem I had is getting frankly bored after a session of half a dozen games, even with a group. The slower ships play REAAALLY slow, so getting out of position and far away from a firefight can really make 3-4 min go by with no action as you relocate.
Pretty likely that this changes at higher tiers, if WoT is any indication. Tiers 5 and lower play totally different than those above. I'll definitely keep playing it now and then, especially when they link the accounts in the future (as they have done for Tanks and Warplanes right? I assume it'd be the same here) and premium time and gold, etc all share.

The slow gameplay is definitely an interesting aspect of the game. It makes positioning and attack plans really important, like you really got to think hard about where to want to move to and whether you want to go for objectives or chase down ships. Higher tier ships still move about the 30 knots speed, but the range is much longer.

the biggest issue with the game atm is probably how LoS works - in the size of the naval maps and distances involved the curvature of the earth becomes a very real factor as well as the ability to sight over the horizon. Add to that the fact that the game cannot currently represent a ship's "siloette" or partial sighting correctly results in long range gunnery that feels far too simplified.

well in real world combat conditions even the most advanced radar aided FCS Iowas had a volley hit rate of like 3% at 20km. if the game is actually like that then it would be really stalemate-y and carriers would just destroy everything.

game already has aimbots, so for now I'd say stay away from it. fun game though otherwise

The wish of people to take the fun out of every game is amazing.

bought one of the cheap premium destroyers just to get into the beta been playing some, and torpedo aircrafts are incredibly annoying when you drive a bs.

this game would really benefit from an extensive clan/team structure.
