Yooka-Laylee A new 3D platformer from the guys behind Banjo-Kazooie
So. This is happening.
Playtonic Games - basically Rare in all but name and consisting of most of the veteran lineup that made Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie back in the day - launched their Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter today, a 3D platformer that is a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series. They reached their initial £175,000 goal in 38 minutes, and are looking to break their highest-tier (£1,000,000) stretch goal in less than a day. It's safe to say that this is happening.
So far we're looking at a release for PC/MAC/Linux as well as all current generation consoles (XBone, PS4, WiiU).
I'm okay with this. These guys make really fun games, and nostalgic 30-year-olds with disposable income (read: author) is the prime target for a bit of a revival. I won't call it a Rare-vival, because if I did I would have to strangle myself.
Local multiplayer is a nice bonus. So few games have couch co-op or multiplayer any more that I will shout this feature from the rooftops. (Although I challenge you to find someone who even remembers that Banjo-Tooie had a multiplayer mode.)
Also, finally some colour! I've had enough games lovingly rendered in every colour of the dirt spectrum, I could use some pleasing aesthetics.
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were my favorite games on the N64 besides Zelda. Not only did those games have amazing level design and controls, but they NAILED the soundtrack. The BK and BT music has been part of my general music collection for years.
I'm a bit iffy on the art style I'm seeing at the moment, but I'll hold off judgment until there is more game play video out. I can already hear a similarity in the music which is an oh so good thing.

Hype for sure.
I can't understand this complaint about the art style, it looks great.

When did i complain? Lol
Just doesn't grab my eye, something about the character design. Mostly a reaction from the still pictures (and the coins), the gameplay video looked fine.
Like I said before I'm not judging it until there's more to go on. Just stating my initial reaction.
So excited by the possibilities of this game. Its the fastest time a game has reached $1,000,000 on kickstarter and according to predictions ans statistics it should reach the 4 million pounds mark in a month.
I can't believe the guy that thought up of and created the modern Donkey Kong family and Banjo Kazzoie spent his days designing football jerseys for a kinect football game. I have no idea what Microsoft have been thinking this past decade, even if its all about FPS games these days you have the people that revolutionized that genre on consoles working for you. But enough about them.
I just. Wow. The guys behind 90's Rare making a 3D platformer with collectables, this is massive. Its been really sad watching the way the video game industry has been developing since online gaming became the 'be all, end all' in the 00's. Rare and Nintendo platformer games are to this day, almost 2 decades later still considered the pinnacle of the genre because of their gameplay. Pure, wonderful gameplay with a fun story that lets you just enjoy the game.
A 10/20/30 year old could pick up the game and have a blast, I'm not saying thats 'what a good game should look like' but every system should have a good game like that. Nowdays if you want to play a fun, colorful game Nintendo is the only company that makes good ones. It shouldn't be like that.
I have never backed anything on kickstarter... up until now
nice. I always wondered what these guys have been up to after they fell off the face of the earth in the gaming industry. Those 4 games, banjo kazooie, banjo tooie, donkey kong 64, and super mario 64(only one not done by them) are pretty much the pinnacle of platforming collectable games.
Man, I love how they broke all of their initial stretch goals in less than a day, then invented several brand new ones, and then those got broken in short order as well.

the trailer made me grin like an idiot the whole time I was watching, and burst out laughing on the last bit, I need to rewatch jontron's nuts and bolts video now.
