One of the main reasons for LW existing is that the aliens don't escalate alongside you. That's the inspiration for the mod originally; removing the trigger-based (and easily exploited) alien technology progression, adding some new options for them, and giving the player some choices for strategy instead of spam satellites (which ended up being "buckle up for the air game or prepare to lose your campaign in three days when the aliens get sick of you). It looks, so far, like the aliens progress and do their own thing regardless of what you do, and without the mechanic of three abductions, one option, lose the game once x countries leave, nobody has as much incentive to make a mod to overhaul all the strategy portions that were sort of shitty in the original. Now the extra equipment, classes, and things for the battlescape; I can see that getting a "long war 2", purely in name, but it isn't really the same thing at that point, considering it misses the point of the original entirely. Not that it wouldn't be welcome. I'd be absolutely fine with someone making that class system in XCOM 2. | ||
