nice so he said "maybe ill livestream myself talking about development, but otherwise we have no plans for random DLC bullshit because we're too busy making the actual game"
materia system confirmed. idk if it's shallow a/f, i just like the clink noise when i stick in my All materia , and i like seeing my gil bugged out after i go sell 50 of them end game. that bug better still be in there.
im gonna go see how aeris is portrayed in kingdom hearts. in FFAC she is too .... motherly type, to get a decent idea for me. in the game she is mischievous, playful type, so really my biggest concern is how they are going to portray her. ill see how she is in KH
Beyond the two quick screenshots, Nomura had nothing else to offer, noting that while he had wanted to show an entire video at the event, that decision had been vetoed by his colleagues. Square Enix had nothing new to say about the game at the series 30th Anniversary Celebration either, instead just showing off some of the game’s new artwork.
I hope they are farther along on this game then just up to the scorpion boss battle. They have been showcasing that of the over the past year now.
I'm still so hyped about this game and no matter what happens I will pre-order most likely the ultimate collector's edition as soon as I can. The only thing I really dislike about the game, is how it's getting split up into episodes and it's scary to me how that's going to work.
Will I have to buy Collector's Edition Disc 1, then buy collector's edition disc 2 a year or two later once it finally comes out? Don't give me any of this digital download shit, I want me some hard copies of my ff7!
I'm choosing to not care too much about what's happening with the game at the moment until they have some hard details about their progress/release dates. It could be years until this game is released, and if FFXV's development is the benchmark I'm not going to have high hopes

Looks great though.
I thought the same way too but SE started pumping out games REALLY quickly just this year. i'm not sure if they've increased in staff or the fact that FF15 taught them a huge lesson in success, but games by them are coming out super quick now.
Final Fantasy 11 or 12 i forgot which number it was, is getting remastered and released on PS4 by june or july this year. it wasn't that great of a game and one i never finished but, the news of that was drowned out by screen shots of FF7 and KH3.
Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed in an interview featured in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation that the game’s main story voice recording is almost done. [Thanks, @aibo_ac7.]
Here’s what Kitase said:
“Final Fantasy VII Remake requires hefty readiness. The voice actors are practically finished in recording voices for the main story. Fans might be picturing Cloud from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children for it, but it’s a Cloud in his “prime” from before Advent Children, so you might sense a fresh new performance from it.”
Keep in mind that it wasn’t specified, but Kitase was probably talking about the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.
“The new visual [pictured above] that was presented at the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary has something that wasn’t in the original, Sephiroth (with black wing?) and we’ll leave it to your imagination as far as the meaning behind it goes.”
Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4.
first of all that's just reminding us that cloud starts off pretty hotheaded (altho still a notch down from aeris etc) and not the emo we have in AC
second it tells us that the voices in the trailer are probs the ones they're using. i wonder if they're defaulting at english dubbing like in FF15 or in japanese
the negative thing to expect is that the script was written as if the voices were all recorded in isolation from one another, as was the case (afaik) in FF15.
so we might get that very disjointed "i say something then you say something" dialogue that we had in FF15. where characters don't really speak to one another, instead they take turns in stating lines. personally this annoyed me a lot and lent to extremely dull character interaction (or maybe the writing was just uninspired as fuck)
i think the black wing of sephiroth (im probably wrong) is supposed to represent his wing of coverage or possession over the reunion clones. in FF7 i think the reunion shit was something that sort of went on behind the scenes without you really understanding (or caring) wtf was going on. like you see this sick man in the tunnel thing near wall street with a tattoo and then that's the end of it.
personally i think this was fine, it made sense that sephiroth was doing 'some weird shit' but at the same time cloud and co. didn't actually care about the weird shit. because at the end of they day all that mattered was that they stop him from fuckin' up everything.
so, my guess with the black wing is that it's square trying to address the sephiroth's reunion a little bit more this time around and make it a more apparent and forward part of the story that he is trying to gather clones or whatever the fuck was going on.
personally i'm not into this because, like i said above, i like it when you're just along as 'part' of a story and live through the eyes of the characters that you follow and have to make assumptions in the same way that they do, rather than having the entire overview of everything spoon-fed to you. except you can swing too far the other way like they did in FF15 and not show us anything that's going on so we ultimately don't care at all (especially since no1 watched the goddamn movie) :|
“Because there was an imperfection in the interpretation of an interview we did at the site [of MAGIC 2017], I will explain here.
“Battles are not command-based, they’re action-based. Regarding cover actions, there are places where they can be done on the map, but they are not required. Because it’s seamless, I showed that there can be actions in response to various scenes.
“The Guard Scorpion battle has map destruction and a great number of attacks that weren’t in the original, so it has become a significantly flashy battle. If you look closely, I think that you can see that there are a number of missiles are coming down.”
Let’s talk about Final Fantasy VII Remake. In the screenshot, Cloud is using a cover action…
Nomura: “In the story, in situations where you’re sneaking around, you won’t just be able to march down the middle of the path. The original version had random encounters, and such parts were in the realm of imagination, but since this title is seamless and you see the path that you’re infiltrating, I decided it was necessary for the sake of realism. You can use it in ways such as to hide in cover until enemy soldiers move along, or to throw a hand grenade from cover to annihilate the enemy. Of course, those who find it bothersome can just throw themselves into the fight.”
Can Barret also use cover actions?
Nomura: “He can. While I can’t say any details just yet, there is a special element in gunners.”
The Guard Scorpion battle scene with Cloud fighting alongside Barret also made an impact.
Nomura: “Rather than just ending it at that scaffold, we’ve made wide use of the space and developed a battle that takes advantage of the map’s characteristics where you’ll fight while switching between Cloud and Barret. For example, when there’s an enemy in a position that can’t be reached by Cloud’s sword, it’s more effective to switch to Barret. It’s becoming strategic in that way, as well. The Guard Scorpion will change modes in the middle of the battle and demonstrate behavior not in the original version. Also in this screenshot, it should be noted that missiles and such are coming down. It’s become a significantly flashy battle.”
With the battles being action-oriented, it seems that you can experience a different type of gameplay from the original version.
Nomura: “Map and object destruction will also happen, and there are part-based destruction elements like breaking the Guard Scorpion’s legs.”
The UI isn’t complete, but the ATB Gauge seems to stock three bars, there is a technique name and level in “Lv. 1 烈攻斬り,” and “Materia” can be seen in the command list…
Nomura: “As for the ATB and techniques, those are for another time. Regarding Materia, what I can say is that it’s something like a skill. Different from magic, you can use it when you’ve set a Materia that has an effect that can be used in battle.”
