i'm guessing this is exactly why square enix as a company has so many issues with completing projects. They have too many creative geniuses who fixate on small nuances when they do discover something new. you have the other guys who also fixate on small detail, and no one is on the same page resulting in scrapped projects.
I alway support SE buying every DLC and most titles on the PS4, but i have absolutely no faith in any of their claim or release dates. How long ago was it since they initially announced it's release date? this steady build up of anticipation doesn't quite work anymore. The less concrete of a date of release, and how long it's taken them, ramps up the probability they will scrap years of effort like they did in 15, and would justifiably be why KH3 may never come out. The fact that my pre-order from gamestop EXPIRED, as if that was even a thing should tell you what you need to know.
Gamer logic always falls for good CGI, but we need to demand in game footage. I've got to be a pessimist and say, i'll believe it when i see it.
I love how all the sites are taking that stock holder call as a sign the PS4 on teh way out. The CEO just said he predicted that sales have peeked. That is the middle of a console lifespan, not the end.
And that FF7 remake might come out in our lifetime. But I expect it to skip to the PS5, because Square is a weird company that just lets things hang out in development forever.
I know this seems petty but I think we're all dying for any new information, so here is: "New off-screen Final Fantasy VII remake image shows what appears to be the Air Buster boss."
On the more serious side, 8 years development time on a console sounds insane from the financial side. There is no guarantee the ps4 is still around in 2 years, if Sony releases a ps5 in 2020 then game devs will stop supporting the ps4 2021-2022 at latest, which means any 2023 release is dead in the water no matter how good the product is.
PS4 will be supported to at least 2025. Should be about the same time of support of the PS3. And a lot of games that are stuck in dev hell are gonna be released before the "official" death of the the PS4. So I expect FF7r to be released by 2020 or 2021 for PS5 and PS4.
why are people insisting the death to ps4 and the start of ps5? i love ps4 at the moment. I'm in the midst of getting great titles, yeah it doesn't run at native 4k, but the graphics look good ENOUGH. it's not like the general populace has ever been in position to adopt 4k, 5k, and 8k standards regardless. i don't get the gripe against ps4. i've purchased more games during the ps4 era than i have for any other one of my consoles.
I don't think it has anything to do with gripes against the ps4?? Just that there are already lots of rumors swirling, and speculation based on the life cycles of previous consoles. PS3 launched in 2006-2007ish and PS4 launched in 2014ish. It stands to speculate that a new gen would be announced and start rolling around in the 2020-2021 range. No one's trying to rush the ps4 out the door or something lol.

And PS3 was supported for at least 2 years following that. The PS4 is still a powerhouse and will be supported for 2-3 years into the PS5's lifecycle.
