I didn't see a post about this and I know it just recently hit Open Beta so I thought I'd share the game and my first impressions really quick.
Skyforge is a kind of sci-fi/fantasy MMO that has you take the place of some sort of demi-god "immortal" character that basically helps rid the world of Aelion of danger/peril (pretty similar to most MMOs). The GUI is pretty unique and nice, very clean and crisp compared to a lot of MMOs I've tried. It has a very sci-fi, technological vibe and reminds me of a console game.
The game itself feels very similar to the console hit "Destiny" in a sense that there seems to be a main hub where all the immortals hang out but upon leaving for quests and missions you visit different areas of the planet. From what I gather the gearing system is also similar to the "Light" system in Destiny that has you collecting gear which adds Prestige to your hero. The higher amount of Prestige you have, the higher your level is as a God. The better gear has higher Prestige, and allows you to be more effective I guess as you progress through the game. Lastly the graphics and overall feel of the characters is pretty similar to Destiny, minus the whole FPS aspect.
The combat is action based (sort of Tera-esque). Seems to be focused a lot on combos and stringing together a simple set of skills. It doesn't seem too overwhelming in terms of skills for each class so far, as it seems that you'll probably end up with 10 or so skills per class if you max out your characters. The class system seems sort of unique, as there are three starter classes you get to chose from in the character creation area, but as you progress I believe a total of 13 become available to you. Some unique classes like Gunner and Alchemist look pretty neat, as well as your normal Paladin Archer etc for more familiar classes.
Obviously with every "F2P" MMO there is a payment model that gives paying players an edge. From what I gather so far it seems there is a Premium membership available for purchase, which would most likely require a monthly subscription of some sort. I have yet to look too much into that, but it's nice that you can experience the game for free before deciding how much you want to invest, and it seems you can switch to premium at any time.
I've only played the game for about an hour so far, thought it seemed fun and I made it through the opening crap and still feel like playing which means it surpasses about 90%+ of the other games I usually try. As of right now I believe there are only two servers (North America and Europe). Not sure if there will be come to come. If you want to try to form a group or clan (I believe they are called Pantheons in this game), I would be down for playing with some people and seeing how group play goes. I have already experience the automatic Group Finder feature that pairs you up with people before starting a quest which is kind of neat. Feel free to message me on here or post your info below and maybe we can kill some stuff Happy hunting.
EDIT: 15 minutes in, game looks amazing and has a great feel to its enviroment, loving the sci-fi. Currently in class-customisation (yes that comes after like 15 mins) and the fanservice is actually pretty cringe worthy, you can adjust buttocks size and the chick will then check out her ass and nod in approval. I mean its a nice ass but its basically softcore hentai lmao.
But so far im loving the look of the game, gameplay is yet to be seen, the combats pretty weird.
Game is pretty interesting. Im interested in how well the end-game is fleshed out and how "p2w" the game really is, as currently i have no idea what im actually doing apart from smash smash click random upgrade buttons smash smash.
From what I understand, since progress is capped weekly, premium players are mostly paying to be able to hit caps in less time played. A serious player of the game will easily be able to hit the caps without paying. In the long run, I don't think a paying player has much advantage, but I'm not sure.
Awesome the fighting mechanics look really interesting in this & thanks Nony! Also... anyone know how much the total DL size is with updates? On Data capped internet. >_<
Thank you for adding! As I stated I couldn't provide much guidance towards the game since I wrote this right after trying it out, seemed like too good of a game to pass up making a thread.
I'm going to continue to progress if anyone wants to play hit me up.
so im pretty sure that this thing ruined some stuff on my pc. After installing the my.com thingie to download the game, my pc can't connect to the internet anymore. only skype works. sigh.

That is unfortunate, I hope that you get this issue resolved.

Resolved after some 3-4 hours of pain. In case someone else gets this -> the fix is to change the IPv4 DNS servers to some other working ones (I used google's 8.8.8.8 for the preferred and 8.8.4.4 for alternate) it should work after that. Then you can clear it out and keep it empty like you did before (if you did before) and it should still work.
Was enjoying the game until it crashed on me (not the first time), then decided to run at ~10 FPS from that point on. Game was running around 35-60 FPS prior to that crash. Don't know what to do about it and not sure if I wanna put in any effort to attempt to fix it.
EDIT: There seems to be a problem with my video card now, rather than the game itself. I think the game may have caused the problem, however. No idea what the problem is or the exact cause of the problem may have been.
EDIT 2: Installed new graphics drivers I didn't know existed. Everything seems fine now.
FYI you can unlock all the class costumes just by completing their tutorials in that practice area after you unlock the main atlas level to gain access to them.
Free costumes! Yey! You also get to have a go at all the classes and see how their mechanics / combos play out and see if you enjoy the playstyle before you start working towards them :-)
Pretty sure there is a nice and easy Bug/Error submission page in the menu while you are inside the game, it may be worth reporting some of the issues you guys are experiencing since it is open beta and things are still being worked out.
I tried this game for a few hours, got to ~1k prestige. I guess it's just not my style, but I didn't like it at all. For reference, other MMORPGs that I've spent significant time on recently include Tera and GW2.
Everything just felt so linear - quests, gear, skill/passive allocation, etc. Other than choosing your class, it felt like there were few meaningful decisions you could make with your character that really impacted anything. Combat isn't too exciting, it's just your standard tab targeting with skill rotations. Note that I realize this is a common theme in the majority of MMOs, but this game took it to the extreme, and while other games have other redeeming features I couldn't find any here.
The prestige system, while it seemed cool at first, quickly became a dumbed-down grindfest where the strength of your character can be summed up with 1 number. I also didn't like how higher difficulties of dungeons were gated by a prestige requirement, which meant that by the time you get to the hard difficulty of a dungeon it's not hard anymore since you yourself are much stronger. You're not allowed to progress through the game "underleveled" and thus you can't really do any challenging content if you get bored with their ideal difficulty/progression curve.
Lastly, the game makes it extremely hard to play with friends. You have to be within a certain prestige of each other to form parties I think? And while you can still be in the same instance of a region/dungeon with a much lower level friend, then you end up not really getting anything useful from that dungeon yourself since it's such a low level and you're basically wasting your time. And since you're only limited to 1 character per account, it's hard to just start a new char to play with a lower leveled friend.
Anyway, I'm sure the game gets much better and interesting later on, but I've played enough games to know that it won't make a big difference for me personally. It's not a bad game at all, it's just not one for my liking.
It doesn't stay linear, doesn't stay so easy. In fact a lot of people have messed up their builds and struggle to do the content their prestige qualifies them for. And 1k prestige is like being lvl 15 in WoW or something. The rotations and encounters are jokes. Doesn't tell you how Mythic raiding will be. The way you handle different fights changes greatly with which class you're playing and what build you're doing. I unlocked Kinetic first and it was horrible until I got the whole build and the correct rings and then it became really fun. And you can develop one class while playing another so you don't have to suffer through underdeveloped classes every time you unlock a new one.
The grouping between friends of different prestige is a major issue, but a patch is planned to provide a solution.
Played this in the RU OBT, got to around 50K prestige and I just couldnt get over the simplistic and unimpactful combat system and very poor raid/boss mechanics. The only class I enjoyed and had fun with was the Slayer in PvP and thats because it reminded me of the Reaper from Tera. The class which imo took the most skill to use was Lightbinder, but damn that class so mind numbingly boring to play. I play Tera which has a very cool and skillful combat system, and another game which has a mix between tab target and action combo system, DCUO, but that game at least has combos and clipping that makes the combat fun and engaging, something which Skyforge is lacking. You can only clip with your dash and that's it. Even at 50k prestige it didnt feel to me that you need any skill to play this game. Its still a decent game, but I dont think it will appeal to the hardcore gaming community.
