That place was basically my bible for working out how to play my class. The dps simulators that are floating around are fine but I loved reading the long form theorycrafting about why a certain rotation was better than another.
discord channels always
icy veins have some decent beginner guides

Some of the MMO-Champion subforums have decent discussions, but only some. Basically if you want to understand the theorycrafting underpinnings you need to figure out where the major theorycrafter or theorycrafters for your class/spec hang out, go there, and pray they answer. EJ-level discussions rarely happen anymore.

What was so special about EJ 10 years ago? It seems to me that the quality and quantity of theorycrafting is stronger than ever
MMO champion forums have been a special tier of trash for an extremely long time.

EJ was special because it was centralized and heavily moderated/curated, so anyone wanting to dig beyond the surface level could simply read the existing threads and have all the knowledge, math, and methodology everyone else had without having to deal with much noise.
Today most theorycrafting is happening behind closed doors or in ephemeral mediums like Discord. It's fine if you have someone like Archimtiros who is thorough, reports in great detail, and has accessible answers for edge cases. Otherwise trying to find answers beyond the surface level can be a nightmare.
Essentially EJ was effectively open source (if tightly controlled), as much about the process as the results. Now it's all results oriented and the effort involved in finding out more is prohibitive. Today's guides are arguably better than what we had before, but that's as much due to simulationcraft being much more robust./accurate than it was back in the day than anything else.

Yeah, that would be nice. I'm finding it fairly good at the moment if you're gonna be hanging around those channels for hours per week anyway but it can be hard for new people to dig in and get quality information when they don't have the knowledge/skill to sort the bad information from the good
|
Or even just the time to dig through the information.

It's often presented quite well w/ discord pins and google docs links

EJ was also awesome because I could view it at work :p
Thanks folks. Looks like Discord (at home) it is then.

Fracture damage decreased by 5%. Spirit Bomb damage decreased by 10%.

Demon Spikes physical damage reduction increased to 12% (was 10%).
Those changes bring the tanks closer together but don't seem particularly noticable, just tweaks in the right direction.
Veng burst and sustained AOE has overtaken Havoc's in places
Protection
Increased the damage done by the following abilities by 4%: Avenger's Shield, Judgment, Hammer of the Righteous, Blessed Hammer, Consecration, Shield of the Righteous, Eye of Tyr.
also changed a couple of the tier 20 sets

NH mission just popped up, figures it'd be during mid-command center

easy Volcanic Sanguine Fortified week be damned, did higher keys this week than the last lol

I thought fortified would slow you down more since trash is a large chunk of the instance than bosses. You overall have more hp to kill that week. Tyrannical just makes some bosses really really dumb compared to the rest.

A lot of Tyrannical bosses just take a really long time and they start to create roadblocks at high levels where you can't reliably oneshot them and wiping loses a ton of time

I usually have more people dying on trash from random shit. Well with a few exceptions like upper kara and maybe mos.

Upper kara was nerfed a lot, it's actually pretty fine now
MOS is not that numerically hard if you do all of the mechanics properly but a lot of people seem to have trouble with the mechanics on second and last boss. After doing it >200 times it's just chill for me

Upper Kara starts to feel really stupid at 20. They didn't nerf Medivh enough yet. Flamewreath's ticking damage is insane.
Also, I've been reading that a lot but I don't understand the Fortified > Tyrannical argument. fortified boost trash damage a lot more than their health. Tyrranical is 40% more health on bosses, and that's multiplicative on top of what the key gives. You lose a LOT more time having to do 4 to 5min boss fights than what little health Fortified gives to trash.
And I'm not even talking about how you're always garranted to finish a Fortified key if you try enough. Sometimes you just can't go past a Tyrannical boss. I mean, it took us almost 15 pulls to kill Medivh this past week. Or months ago just giving up on a high enough Xavius / Rokmora / Hyrja / prenerf Melandrus You never have to give up a Fortified week.

There are some teeming+fortified+ some other affix (like explosive) that I can see being something you might have to give up on if you didn't have the right resources or party comp. The super pulls in HoV come to mind.
