But then earlier this month he was talking about buying one so maybe they don't suck so bad after all eh My GOTY is currently BOTW but I'm relatively confident Xenoblade 2 will take that title next week.

So far I see the great strength of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as being the way it skillfully combines all these exploration based elements with a story I'm eager to see through to the end. I may change my mind a bit by the time I write my full review sometime later this month, but as of right now, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks like yet another hit for Nintendo in what's become an almost supernaturally good year for the company. Just one more weekkkk

The characters moveset is so limited that you end up always doing the same stuff... But hey! The shmup parts are awesome. Nioh is also great. This was a great year. And next year switch is gona get MOTHER FUCKING SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI. this is what im waiting for as well. will easily be better then BOTY unless they really drop the ball. Hopefully an actual animal crossing and not a mobile game is slated for 2019 at the latest too. Then of course the anticipated pokemon switch game. Can't justify a switch buy yet though, doesn't really have any games worth buying the system for at the moment. I thought it would be mario kart but I played it recently and what a bore.

I haven't played a JRPG in a long time and I really miss it :D. I just hope the story is at least slightly better than your average JRPG stuff.

BotW and Mario aren't really my type of games (not a fan of either genre) but I will give BotW a shot. It's definitely Xenoblade that will push me to buy the console however.

I hope Xenoblade Chronicles 2 follows in (1)'s footsteps, but Xenoblade Chronicles X makes me worry that they're not really sure what they did right the first time around. Don't get me wrong, Xblade X is a fine game and worth playing, but Xblade 1 is an -excellent- game that -should- be played. That's why people are excited / hopeful about 2.

X was always supposed to be a "spin off" with gameplay LIKE XC1 but with more stuff, i dont think it fell flat, you went too far there, actually because XCX gameplay is superb, is just that it's the story and the "feel" of the game (because that lonely MMO feel)is kida off (IMO) On the other side, XC1 (and i guess XC2) is more story oriented, which doesn't mean worse in gameplay btw.

XCX is worth playing because the combat and class design are pretty damn solid. I'm saddened that the supporting subsystems didn't turn it into a great game. Honestly I want XC1 at a non-awful resolution.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a hot mess of an open world game that -tries- a bunch of things to be cool, but ultimately a lot fo the subsystems in the game falls flat, and it ends up feeling like a very lonely MMO. It had nice twists. And FUCKING MECHAS! After so much explorarion on foot a mecha really changes things up. And how they dealt with the combat mechanics was really interesting. And you could even fully costumize it! All those parts, all hose paintings. I would spend something just looking at those mechas. For me the real downside is that it seems they didn't have time/resources to expand on the world lore and beings such as L and your charecter. They drop some hints, and many more are in the official artbooks with concept art, but many more things could have been done. All those things make the game screem GIMME A SEQUEL. I also want to point out that in Japan the game doesn't have chronicles in the name. Just Xenoblade X. Wich means we got Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii. Xenoblade X for Wii U. And Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Switch. This makes the relation between games more aparent. The chronicles was added to X in the west for marketing reasons, as XC was pretty popular and not only because of the game.

Strikes me as the kinda game you need to get deep into before it feels gratifying. What's fun about it? Why are people so hyped for this new game? Definitely worth giving it another try. Personally I also had a hard time getting into the game, it feels rather overwhelming at times and I consulted the internet a lot. Ground combat seemed especially difficult at the start. Once you get the hang of it though, it's a great game. I spent about 160 hours on it to get 100% completion. Others have already explained that there's a heavy focus on exploration. World is divided in 5 parts which are all very different and feel amazing to explore. BOTW world was a huge letdown for me after XCX. Mechs are great too. If you prefer fleshed out story to exploration then Xenoblade 1 on Wii may be more for you.

Is there likely to be a better deal in the next few months? I'm very on the fence about the whole console haha. How much is MSRP? I'd be surprised if there was sales on it after BF.

Nintendo insists that if there is a physical copy of the game, the digital version must be the same price in the Switch eShop. It is a download, but it still has the same value. But yeah, at 280 I think that's the best deal on a Swithc + Game that will be around for a while.
