the only thing that I really liked is the music, everything else is below average
Did you play/like the previous Xenoblades, or JRPG's in general?
I put 160 hours in X and really enjoyed 2 as well, but if you don't usually play these kinds of games you're probably not going to like it.
That said, after 20 hours you haven't even experienced the full combat capabilities of the game, probs their fault for taking so long to let you unlock everything but the combat gets quite enjoyable towards the end.

I'm still only ~50 hrs in and I still feel like it's "just getting started". I don't mean that in a doughy-eyed "wow I can't wait for all the potential of combat after I unlock everything !!! !!! !!" I just literally mean like the whole story and everything still feels like it's just slowly ramping up. It's extremely slow paced and I can see why that's a big turn off for a lot of people. I blame it more on the fact that so many folks that have never touched the series before seem to be grabbing XC2 just because it's a big release for the Switch and has been getting a lot of buzz. A lot of people are turning out disappointed and angry when a simple demo or watching some gameplay of the older titles would quickly tell them it's not something they'd be interested in. I get why that would be frustrating.
Now that the semester/work is back to routine I'm looking forward to diving back in.

You don't need 20 hours to notice you dislike XC2 as much as Etisme seemed to. He probably trudged on hoping it'd get better.
I think it's pretty easy to tell from reviews or simple gameplay videos on youtube if you're going to like it or not. The pace is kinda slow, yes, but there is nothing you unlock at like Hour 20 that would make you go "oh now I love this game" if you weren't liking it before.
I think there are at least these 2 requirements for somebody to like the game: 1. You have to like JRPGs: it has this grindiness, incremental evolution mechanics, slow almost-turn-based MMO-like combat they all share 2. You have to be okay with the anime art style and pervasive fan-service
A lot of people dislike one of the above. And then even if you're okay with these 2, it's not a perfect game anyway. I understand it's way less of a universal gaming experience as BotW, but people who like the game like it very much :D. For me it's exactly the JRPG I needed on the console.

I love it as I said earlier. I can completely see it not being something that everyone would enjoy though. I mean some people don't enjoy Mario Odyssey and BoTW for that matter, it's all a matter of what you like to do.
Xenoblade is a certain type of JRPG where you have to legitimately enjoy the grind and doing side shit (gaining rep in towns / exploring everything you can do outside of the main story). The main story can go kind of slow, and while the combat is fun once you truly understand it, it's very very obtuse and boring when you first start playing.

So today should, in theory, be the last day for an announcement if there is to be a January Direct.

I'm on /r/NintendoSwitch and it's ready to burst with hype :D.

I always just use xbox controllers, though, so I haven't had a reason to try it. I imagine you'd need a special driver at least I believe I read before release that pro controllers would be PC native.

The wait continues tomorrow. Hoping for FE16 Pokemon Smash, and Octopath Release date
|
I don't think they'll say anything about Pokemon. They like to put major Pokemon info in dedicated Pokemon Directs.
They recently announced that the Octopath soundtrack is done, so we should hear something about the release date soon. I really enjoyed the music in the demo, and the dialogue is amusing. + Show Spoiler +Go pleasure yourself, master
I'm expecting Nintendo to hype games that are closer to release like Yoshi and Kirby, and maybe announce some DLC for games that are already out.

The whole youtube thing seems to be going in a dark direction in the last 2 years. So many gamer channels with the “Surprise, this streamer is in fact human garbage in 20 different ways.”

Their games are still going to get streamed on Twitch anyway, so it isn't like they're actually protecting themselves from the group that will just watch and not buy the games anyway.

Nice! I've been wanting to play this but heard they were making it for the switch so i decided to wait for that.

It's pretty dope. Great candidate for a handheld mode game.

I'm not saying its all bad or all good on youtube. Just that Youtube seems to be pretty clueless how to moderate itself right now. And I sort of respect Nintendo just not giving a shit about youtube or twitch, rather than running towards the free marketing with creepy, open arms like other companies.
