My Belkin router which I had been using for 4 years is dieing out (probably from overheating). Cable port doesn't work and it disconnects me randomly when i'm using wireless. I'll need a new one to replace it.
Here are my options:
ASUS DSL-N11 / DSL-N13 11 N Modem Router Netcomm NB6 /NB6W /NB6+4W /NB6+4WN Netgear DM111P/DG834 /DG834G/DGN2000 D-Link DSL-502T /504T /G604T/DSL-2740B Billion 5200/5200G/5200N/7300G/7300N Billion 7401VGPR3/7404VGPX/7404VGOX/7404VNPX Linksys AG300/WAG54G2/54Gv3/120N/160N TP-Link TD-8810 /8840 /W8901G-F /W8960N TP-Link TD-8810 /8840 /W8901G-F /W8960N
I use it mostly to play games, transfer files, torrenting. It'll never be switched off, so it needs to have good cooling...
atm, I'm leaning towards Billion 7300N and linksys 120N. Any suggestions/recommendation?
Anything, such as what not to buy would be appreciated as it helps me in limiting my choices.

Get Linksys WRT54GL if you can find it cheap and flash it with dd-wrt. If not, cross-reference above list with http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database and get one that is 'green' yes on the list. Try it with stock firmware and if it works, cool. If it does not do what you want, you have an option to flash it with something that can probably do what you want and has good community support (i.e. there will be updates for long time, etc...). 120N is not supported, 160N is, but watch out for hardware revisions...

don't get tp-link or netgear. tp-link is some crappy chinese brand and netgears tend to have the most problems.

I agree. The WRT54GL with dd-wrt is amazing. You have so much control over bandwidth allocation and everything. For example, you can set it up so while you are gaming, it automatically throttles torrents so you never have to worry about that. A friend of mine bought one and he didn't stop talking about it for days.
The only downside is it only has G wireless, but unless you are doing a lot of in-network file transfers you won't notice the difference.
Other than that, I can't say I've had any interaction with many other routers besides being able to recommend staying away from anything overly cheap and D-Link.

I've got two good Trendnet routers. Nice features and reliability at fair price.

Instead of a WRT54GL you might want to consider the "other one" out there, the Buffalo WHR-G54S, or it's high-powered version, the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. The latter will give you extended range, speed improvement, MIMO, etc and is my choice. Flashing the Buffalo routers is a bit more complicated because you need to use TFTP as Buffalo encrypts their firmware. Either way it should be a piece of cake as long as you follow the instructions given depending on what firmware you get.
I recommend flashing Tomato instead of DD-WRT since I like the UI, Tomato also comes with a really helpful batch file if you choose to get a Buffalo router.
Bottom line however is that you need to get a router that can be flashed with the third party firmware!!!
edit: If you choose to go with a WRT54G be very careful what hardware revision you end up with. Versions 1-4 are good, iirc 5-6 can only run DD-WRT micro (stay away from them) and 7 can't be flashed at all (I bought this by mistake ... avoid it like the plague!). Also I believe the WRT54G2 series can only be flashed with micro as well. Best version of the WRT54G series is probably the WRT54GL, the L stands for Linux and is actually a WRT54G v4.
edit2: Be careful when flashing firmware because if you do something stupid you might brick your router, I guess this goes without saying but just in case

just one thing: Don't get any of the D-Link models since they, iirc from my time at d-link, are modems and router in one, which wont play well if you're just looking for a router.
