Also, "american" isn't a race. Nationalism and racism are not the same thing.

It's a pretty good ad until the last few seconds, where images of Mao and the Chinese flag appear in the backdrop while the lecturer says how America is working for China now, and everyone laughs. Not exactly in best taste.

In country where 65% people are white 11% black etc. you cant really use word nationalism to identify ethnic group... if you want most citizens be loyal to gouverment.

Mao is the Chinese equivalent of George Washington to most Chinese. He led a rebellion against an extremely corrupt and ineffective government that didn't give a damn about its own people. He instituted land reform that benefited the large majority of the population of China. He is the first step that allowed China to become what it is today. Of course, once he became the undisputed leader of the DPRC, things went to hell, and most Chinese will admit that it'd been great if Mao had just died after winning the civil war. Then he'd be the most revered hero in the history of China and the country's cultural relics would still be intact.

Too much justice and welfare can take it's toll on you They also like to forget how much easier it is to run a country of 9 Million that is mainly one demographic than it is a country of 310 Million made up of a much broader demographic spectrum. There is a lot to be admired about the Swedes though, including their literacy and infant mortality rates. Also, as usual, we're portrayed by the shouting minorities instead of the silent majority on both sides. Doesn't really help.

Now, does it ignore the greater complexities of how our debt with China actually works? Yes.

Really doubt this will be the case since China's economic system isn't a nice environment for young people to found startups. Even if the US doesn't realize that that is the most important thing with their stupid patent and copyright laws and bailing out of big enterprises whose technological innovation is stifled by their own infrastructure I think you may be placing too much significance on this. Politicians say this is important because its a more popular stance. Besides, China tax is 25% big business, 20% small business, 15% tech company, what part of that does not encourage startups? Your right though it will never be like that movie, that's just trying to touch a nerve. It is like this however, although the gap has widened more over the past year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_current_account_balance

gl ^^ yeah, but it doesn't matter at this point who enacted the legislation. your response is the problem with our political system. you're caught up in principle and ignore the reality of the situation.
