I'm not going to comment on the pretty blatant hatemongering and fear tactics used in this video, but I am rather surprised they were able to hire actual Chinese actors for such obvious anti-Chinese propaganda. That professor actually speaks better Mandarin than I've seen in a lot of American movies (Tomb of the Dragon Emperor lololol). That's not even to mention the ad is blatantly selling falsehoods. If you want a real ad showing the people who are truly responsible for the economic collapse of America, it would be a room full of white, upper-class, Republican politicians and bankers, the same people bankrolling the Tea Party right now.

It's actually a smart ad to run someplace like West Virginia. This is what scares me most.

The holier-than-thou attitude and the Mao poster in the ad. Conservatives really don't understand the rest of the world at all.

Here in America, we can't have actual debates without marking someone for the audience to hate. That's just how it works here bro. There's a poster of Mao (ironically, the only people that probably hate Mao more than Americans are the Chinese) on the wall, and it ends with the dude delivering an evil laugh and implying that the Chinese have enslaved the US. If it wasn't such blatant hatemongering propaganda, I'd be pretty offended.

I think there are several posts in this thread that have already brought the point across. Namely the attire of the lecturer, the language he's speaking. And most of all the laughter at the end. Don't you think this just reinforces stereotypes that some other nation actually has people that laugh and mock another nation's downfall? If this doesn't potray China in a bad light then I don't know what does. Untastefully done...

But historically, republicans actually have supported China more than democrats. Republicans = business, democrats = labor. The strongest China lobbying group is the US China Business Council. All the big US corporate CEO lobby for China. Democrats, like Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, love to bash China for America's own problems. At the end of the day, it's all bullshit American politics. It was Blame Japan during the 1980s, now it's Blame China. Probably will be Blame India in 20-30 years.

Take another look at the 1984 parody; it's trying to say that if America continues its current policies it'll end up being ruled by a totalitarian state. It's a horrible way to say America should change its policies... fear mongering at its worst. And this was posted on TL a day after Stewart's rally to restore sanity... sigh.

Like when Juan Williams (who is black, liberal, and a civil rights activist) was fired from NPR because he said he feels uncomfortable near someone wearing Muslim garb on a plane! Someone says something you dislike and you cry out "racism". Of course that's racist. If I said I didn't feel comfortable with an expensive watch on near a black guy I'd be racist for assuming he was going to mug me simply from the colour of his skin. That's no different from assuming a muslim is going to hijack a plane simply because he's a muslim.
