the strike looks like noise mostly; some political play, appeasing the masses maybe, a distraction of sorts ...

According to the first reports, all the aircraft based there have been destroyed, including some 30 Syrian Arab Air Force Su-22 Fitter attack planes, several SyAAF MiG-23s and also some Su-24 Fencers. For sure, considered the status of Assad’s air force, the attack has had a significant impact on the ability of the loyalist air force to conduct air strikes. on the victims http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2017/04/07/syrian-army-says-6-dead-extensive-damage According to Pentagon, the Russians were informed ahead of strike: Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line. U.S. military planners took precautions to minimize risk to Russian or Syrian personnel located at the airfield. Indeed, Shayrat Airbase is a Forward Operating Base for a few Russian Air Force Mi-35 and Ka-52 helicopters. The status of the choppers, provided some of these were there at the moment of the air strike, is unknown. Noteworthy, the TLAMs flew across the MEZ (Missile Engagement Zone) of the S-400 missile battery the Russians deployed to Latakia to protect the Russian air contingent deployed there in 2015. Did Russia’s most advanced anti-aircraft defense system detect the missiles? For sure there are no reports of any of the BGM-109 intercepted by the S-400. Designated SA-21 “Growler” by NATO, the S-400 is believed to be able to engage all types of aerial targets including aircraft (someone says even VLO – Very Low Observable ones), drones and ballistic and cruise missiles within the range of 250 miles at an altitude of nearly 19 miles. Equipped with 3 different types of missiles and an acquisition radar capable of tracking up to 300 targets within the range of over 370 miles, the Triumph (or Triumf) is a system made of 8 launchers and a control station. Supported by effective EW (Electronic Warfare) capabilities, the S-400 fires missiles that fly at 17,000 km/h against aerial targets. So, at least on paper, all non-stealth aircraft and missiles would hardly be able to dodge S-400 missiles. Assuming that the Russians probably detected at least some of the Tomahawks flying fast and low towards their targets at Shayrat Airbase it’s not clear why the Trimf did not attempt to intercept any of the TLAMs launched by the US destroyers, considered the reaction by Viktor Ozerov, head of the Russian Federation Council’s defense committee, who said the American attack was “an act of aggression against a UN member […] Cooperation between the Russian and US militaries may be shut down after the US strike.” according to state news agency RIA. Perhaps, considered that they were informed beforehand, they simply decided to let them pass. The Syrian army says a US missile attack on one of its airbases killed six people and caused extensive damage, adding it would respond by continuing its campaign to "crush terrorism" and restore peace and security to all of Syria. A statement from the army command described the attack on Friday as an act of "blatant aggression", saying it had made the US "a partner" of Islamic State, the ex-Nusra Front and other "terrorist organisations".

Russia has said it is suspending a deal with the US to prevent mid-air collisions over Syria in response to US air strikes on a Syrian air base. i don't see this escalating though. Trump probably increased his approval rate a bit and displayed some balls before his meeting with Xi, Putin gets to own Syria's skies(Israel planes?), oil prices are up, EU loses some more (Germany's bonds tank a little), plebs get morally and ethically masturbated. The Russian Foreign Ministry said following Donald Trump's decision to fire 59 cruise missiles at a military target in Syria on Thursday, Moscow was suspending a memorandum with the US that prevented incidents and ensured flight safety. Under the memorandum, signed after Russia launched an air campaign in Syria in September 2015, Russia and the US had exchanged information about their flights to avoid incidents in the crowded skies over Syria. all and all, i weirdly see it as preserving the status quo.

The airbase ranges from completely annihilated to not particularly harmed within the past two days. Reports are evidently conflicted.

What do you guys think the reactions would be like if a Syrian airstrike took out a handful of US service personnel in, say, Iraq? Would people be talking about 'sable rattling'? But since those guys were just some arabs, who cares I guess... The collateral in this war is beyond comprehension. There is a universal sense of helplessness. Your virtue signalling and accusing other people of racism is not only helpless but morally degenerate. Grow up.

ISIS goal is clear, to establish a super state including all Islamic states in the world and remove all boarders that were created after WW1 by France and GB. Global powers do not want that, at the same time, they cannot forfeit their own troops in such war against ISIS. So the answer would be: - Air Strikes - Ground forces as cannon fodder formed from locals. This technique is used since 2007 in Iraq to drive ISIS out of Iraq cities after heavy causalities US suffered in years from 2003 - 2007. The life of a person in this world is weighted by how strong his/her nation and effect martially or economically or diplomatically... etc in the world. If you are weak, you are worthless. Media is just a tool used by the strong. That is why it is OK to use cannon fodders from locals, because they are worthless, unlike a US or European soldier. That is why it is OK to use Air strikes to kill a single ISIS sniper on a roof and kill over 200 civilians with it. Because they are worthless that their own government abandoned them. Civilization and humans rights is the biggest joke ever. The UN is a joke itself, nothing but a mask for the winners of WW2 to control the world resources to suite their needs. The security council that should be keeping an eye on peace around the world, the permanent 5 countries are the ones who abusing the system and causing all this instability. I love it when I see people like "hey it is 2017," or "civilized world". This world is still ruled by one single rule which is: "Survival Of The Fittest". No matter how we try to decorate it with stupid names like world nations or civilized world or whatever names we come up with. It is the one rule that the world was, still and will be living by.
