Imo guitars in shops actually have shitty setups because a) the factory may not do it accurately b) the shop itself sometimes doesn't bother with it c) sometimes the setup goes to shit anyway because of humidity or temperature changes in the room

Move your free fingers in the scale to taste. For many styles it is important to keep the alternating bass going in the thumb. Usually something like (I V, I V, ...) or (V I, V I, ...) It is much easier to learn things that are not syncopated with your fingers. If you want to learn something syncopated, adjust it so it isn't syncopated then learn it, adjust to syncopation and learn it again.

So I went to UG today to look at some tabs and apparently you only get 1 tab per day free, otherwise you have to pay. I don't get this at all. Can anyone explain to me why they've moved to this model as opposed to the other things they were doing before that allowed them to have community based free content? Are you looking at the tab pro tabs? You should be able to access the text-based tabs for free at any rate at which you please. You can avoid that tab pro "One tab per day" thing by just purchasing your own tab software program. I think the 2 big ones are Guitar Pro and Power Tabs for UG. Once you have the software it is just a matter of finding the song you want, make sure it is the correct type of tab (.gp6/.ptb) Scrolling past the free browser based program and downloading a physical copy of the tab at the bottom of the page. Big button "Download Tab" impossible to miss. Hope I helped. EDIT: My Rig + Show Spoiler +

didnt figure to relax my picking hand more until later, lots of desync going on beforehand im learning miku's spin, i think i finished learning the chords just now so can practice during the week, its actually fucking awesome beginners song, like G D A Bb F# Bm but they're a mix of open, power and barre (pick and choose) aswell as a few super easy solo bits and pieces http://plus.ultimate-guitar.com/m/miku_hatsune/melt_tab_online.html#ec157 i guess i can aim to play it thru by the end of the week but i have no idea how long it would take to play to speed, maybe 2-5 weeks? but then that's my first song at last , and a vocaloid song (one of my favs), i will officially be a vocaloid guitarist and can quit my day job btw working sucks, i have to practice during my lunch break and then got like 30 mins to practice in the evening between gym and chilling but its hard to give a fuck by then

I'm looking for advice on new guitar My budget is ~£500 and I want a metal, controlled sounding guitar (I like XJapan sad controlled tones more than particularly bright and messy ones although I like all kinds of music from country upwards) I'm looking at the Mockingbird STC and wondering how it compares to the 2015 Contour Deluxe since the Deluxe doesn't come with a tremelo. Is it possible that some people would prefer to not have a tremelo on their guitar (I noticed that Hide doesn't use one)? I'm guessing I should get a guitar with one because I will probably want to use it someday...... There is only like 1-2 videos of the Deluxe on youtube and no independent reviews anywhere so I'm not really sure what to think about it. The STC seemed a bit wild sounding on youtube but there's probably more videos I can watch (and I was told by kind people in other threads that basically any guitar with 2 humbuckers and the right pickups should work for me). I also looked at Mexican Strat HSH but can't say if it'd be better or worse for me than a Mockingbird (in terms of sound...). I have been able to try out the Fender fretboards and they are real nice. I haven't been able to try out Mockingbirds but they are jumbo too (and 24 frets too which I'm guessing would be a bonus for me since I am up around that area a lot). So if anyone can compare the Fender/Strat necks to the Mockingbird one for me that would be cool.... Its a thing for me because I seem to find Ibanez necks a bit harder to play on than the Strat neck (and the epiphone neck and i think the yamaha neck too). That's why (with sadness) I've ruled out Ibanez at the moment I haven't been able to try any brands like Schecter, PSR or whatever the other ones are. And I'm fed up of driving around for hours to find shops or get lost and then come back still feeling completely unsure about everything. Any advice, alternative suggestions or comments on my thoughts/ideas so far would be awesome! I don't really want to go second-hand because I have only been playing for 6 months and could easily buttfuck myself with a worn fretboard or something. I just want a fresh, well set-up intermediate metal guitar that sounds like my Ibanez GSA-60 but plays better than it in my hands.

If you get something with a Tune-O-Matic and stopbar you can easily add an FRX Floyd to it later. The product looks really cool. + Show Spoiler + I'm not really sure what type of sound you're describing or what pickups you might want. The mockingbird looks cool with two coil tap switches and a phase reverse switch. It has a lot of controls so you can likely find something you like. No idea what the pickups would sound like though, or what the neck would be like. I think whether or not you like EMG pickups might be a good thing to figure out as a metal player. People seem to have mixed opinions of them. You might do well to identify some of the reasons why you might like the different necks. If it's something usually listed online about the guitar you could get an idea of how it would be without trying one. Nut width, neck shape, radius, etc. Some people say new guitars, especially more affordable ones, often come poorly set up so a used one might actually have a nicer setup. I've also heard more worn in necks can be nice since the harder edges will be softened (which lower end guitars might not do at the factory, but nicer ones often do.) I don't have enough experience to say myself. I will say I bought a DBZ guitar and they have a nice selection of metal guitars with a lot of variations. You have a lot of pickup and trem options within the same model. http://www.guitarsbydiamond.com/catalog/ for their current line.

ok well "controlled" is just my bad interpretation of it listen to this clip and at the start is the sound that i usually play on , its pretty tight ibanez sound right? (and its apparently my single coil pickup so , yeah). anyway i really like that mellow sound. i like the bright sound but not as much. and i dislike squeachy sounds. clip:+ Show Spoiler + anyway i dont know anymore, i'm completed fucked in what i think i should do. i think the best thing i can do is get a single guitar lesson from someone local and have a go at their guitar/setup and ask them what they think about my current guitar/setup. or i could straight up buy a strat or mockingbird or random ibanez (there are so many its fucking off-putting, then i find one and it has no trem or its HH when i thought i wanted HSH or its got someone saying dont buy this guitar it has some alignment problem , and then i'm like maybe i could get 7 string version if i'm buying a metal guitar for some serious futureproofing, and then i'm like i wonder if it'll sound like my SSH ibanez, and then you got people saying you need to replace the pups, or they dont like the S body and so on and so on) OR i could just get another budget guitar (with a fender or ibanez board) with a fresh setup to practice with until i get more experience btw i posted another question, there is this back noise when i play these notes coming from the pickups when i pick the notes, what causes it and can it be minimised? its pretty strong soemtimes (and might have been why i ended up using my singlecoil so much?)
