There seems to be a huge influx of depressing ass threads in the General Forums. In the past month or so, we've had threads talking about pretty awful things such as:
tortured bears committing suicide, bears eating a girl alive, a student being raped twice and forced to apologize to her rapist, a father imprisoning and raping his daughters for 40 years, and now a 10 year old boy forcibly dehydrated to death by his parents.
Even without mentioning the details, those headlines are enough to ruin someones mood
Feeling a little better already...
Frankly, the funny pictures thread just doesnt seem to be enough to lift my spirits after reading those stories so I decided to make a thread devoted to reminding us about the good that happens in the world. To start it off, heres a short article about a police officer saving a puppy after a 15 foot fall
They dont have to be super epic or anything, just post pictures and/or stories that either show the good side of the world or are at least just nice and heartwarming. Im sure theres a lot of good that happens that people hear about simply because the terrible depressing stories just make better news.
So lets remind ourselves of the awesome things that happen around us that dont get noticed enough. Let 'er rip!!
(Of course if the world is really as depressing as those stories make it out to be this thread will fail pretty quickly due to lack of content)
Thank you. I'm very tired of seeing all the horrible threads as well.. Even the titles make me cringe, I'm honestly very very very mentally bothered by reading such things. I've debated minimizing the General forum over it, but unfortunately there's other things in there that actually interest me.
Let's make this thread even more happy by spoilering the mentions of those specific threads in the OP!?
You wouldn't expect this level of heartwarming coming from cracked.
wow those are actually really awesome links.
Its funny how these global super threats that made headlines years ago arent deemed interesting enough now that were trying to solve them. Its also incredible how the smallest things can get someone to reevaluate their life instead of ending it.
Heres an article about a random lost pitbull that saved a woman and 2-year old child from a man with a knife:
lol, heres another video along the same lines. I mighta made this thread, but Im still not sure if this video belongs here. Ahh what the hell, here you go!
Been waiting for this thread for a while, I'll contribute to this effort with a song. This band helped to pull me out of a lingering depression that I had for a good deal of my childhood, and they remain one of my favorites to this day, even if I seldom listen to their music anymore. This is my favorite song by them; I hope someone enjoys it!

I liked this guy until I found out he was all kinds of crazy. But seeing as how this is a feel-good thread, here's some good news to counteract all the terrible stuff we're seeing lately!
fuarrrrrrk keep this thread going. Definitely need more threads and general positivity like this. imo mods should step in and start removing unimportant, negative threads or better yet make a separate forum for the people who actually want to read that stuff.
To many this was just a troll disturbing a serious discussion but to me this was both fun and rewarding to read. You see, the answers to this trolls words where mostly amazing. People gathered up their lust and soul to in a simple post describe why they find life worth living. I found youtube videos I'd never see if this trolling hadn't happened, I even got engaged into the debate and had a inner discussion with myself on reasons for a non deists life.
I don't want this to be a thread discussing religion, posting such a discussion is perhaps not the best I can do to contribute here but I hope you can find the same positive points that I found while reading.
Just ctrl F to the answers to Dark_Stalker's awkward posts. Here
‘Living Fossil’ Eel Swam at Dawn of Dinosaur Age In the small island republic of Palau, marine biologists have made a remarkable find just 35 meters below the surface. A new species of eel have been discovered which seem to be closer related to ancient fossils of eel from the Cretaceous era, rather than modern eels. The animal likely appeared some 200 million years ago, just at the very end of the Triassic period.
One of the most beautiful tracks I have ever heard in my life. Imo if everyone listened to trance the world would be a better place. Extremely upbeat and uplifting
This is kinda personal but whatever as I don't want to write a thread about it.
I was involved in a car accident yesterday. My dad's car was totaled going into a highway divider. Thankfully no other cars were involved. My dad escaped with minor scratches on his arm and a big swelling cut on his face, but everything else is fine. I am lucky to be alive with a heavily swollen and cut left eye (which also has a scratched lens).
And here I am, yelling at my computer screen, cheering on my favorite MLG players and approving edits on Liquipedia!

The story of an elderly man that lives near where I do, always makes me smile.
They were living in Southern Slesvig and he was born in 1937, but since the parents refused to join the Nazi party they were deported to Poland and his father was sent to the Eastern Front. However the mother was too afraid to stay in Poland with the kids (they were like 6 or 7 kids), and they tried to escape back to Southern Slesvig, but at that time the kids got seperated from their mother in Berlin in 1944, and Hans (the elderly man) and his 5-6 siblings - the oldest one being 8 years old, and the youngest being only 7 months went through Germany at that time of the war, in a furious cold winter to Denmark. Alone. Where all the kids took care of eachother, slept secretly in barns and where it was possible - and all of them, even the 7 months baby survived - and they got to Denmark to stay for the rest of the war, until the White Busses drew them back to Southern Slesvig, where they were reunited with their parents after the war, the parents that were 100% sure, that their kids was victims of either the winter, the war or both. But they weren't and lived a happy life ever after.
New Zealand Bids Farewell to Lost Emperor Penguin Published August 28, 2011 | NewsCore
WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Fans turned out in their hundreds Sunday to farewell an emperor penguin which has gained international attention since being found on a New Zealand beach in June. The penguin, dubbed Happy Feet, will Monday be loaded aboard the research ship the Tangaroa and spend about four days at sea before being released into the ocean near Campbell Island, a remote subantarctic island. But first a farewell party was held at Wellington Zoo, with the public encouraged to dress in black and white, make a donation toward the cost of his care and watch his final health checks. Happy Feet will also be fitted with a GPS tracker so his fans can follow his movements once he is released.

Oh man, story #2 about the old men is just amazing. I already knew that there were people out there like this, but it does so much more to actually see it and read about it.
I seriously feel like i'm glowing after reading that article.
Stick with it until about 1:50 in,then the real star shows himself. I can't be angry after watching THAT.

I think so too. And I think that is because we are meant to be our brothers keepers. I even think deep down we all want to be our brothers keepers but we forget sometimes. In that spirit:

Whenever I want to cheer up I listen to some JJ or Elliot smith, but I've been told most people find Elliot depressing, so here's some of my feelgood list!
I love this thread, and as such, will contribute what small part I can. Just click it, and enjoy, knowing of it's existence. It's like playing a game of Roulette with Kittehs.
Saudi King Abdullah announced on Sunday he was giving women the right to vote and run in municipal elections, the only public polls in the ultra-conservative Gulf kingdom.
He also announced that women would have the right to join the all-appointed Shura (consultative) Council, in an address opening a new term of the council.

I donno if this is a good submission for this but it made me happy.
My friends grandma passed away last month. She was really close to her grandparents so it was really hard on her. Her boyfriend was with her the whole time, trying his best to keep her happy and cheering her up. About 3 days later, her grandfather was in the hospital cause of his heart and she took her boyfriend to go see him. While they were there, he held both of their hands and said he hopes they have a realationship that lasts as long as his did. When my friend started crying her grandpa said that it was ok, hes just going back to see his wife. The only reason that I lived this long is because I didnt want her to be sad if I went first, he said. That night he ended up passing away and my friend is still having a little bit of problems but shes getting better.
Im sorry if that was sad for you guys, but It made me feel good, hearing what he said before he died.
Amazing video... I'm kinda curious though, how does she speak so easily and understand what the doctors are saying? Wouldn't it be hard after 29 years of not hearing?
The "eight tiny things that stopped suicides" makes me feel worse. How am I to know that there wasn't a time where I could've stopped someone from offing themselves without knowing it?

Thank you, that was a great read. I really enjoy Christina's articles, they may not be as funny as the other articles from other authors, but they are very meaningful.
I'll admit, I'm a very mind hardened person, there is little that can ruin my day, though I do have my occasional bad day I manage to deal with it because a strong mind seems to be my super power. Whatever the world throws at me, I'll manage to deal with.
I do however feel shock, or distaste for certain actions, I'm just very good at ignoring it or dealing with it.
Alongside all hearts As they finish with backdrop cities As jagged teeth dig in deeper Ripping new wounds For former scars Stricken with insomnia Sickened lungs insist on heavy breathing
And the conductor is conducting [conductor is conducting] Electrical time signatures And I fall into rhythm [I fall into rhythm] And my life is a rhythm And my feet will improvise [My feet off beat, my feet off beat] As I sputter at the knee like a leaking faucet
You'll be undercover, under covers Sleeping with the enemy This is what I like to call internal espionage [[Concrete coated gazes in hot pursuit of self-made mazes Talking circles around each other Deserting halos to be Handcuffed and hogtied with your words]]
On the search for girls [Stricken with insomnia] With milk carton father figures My veins are pulsing [Free form jazz] To peninsula extremities My fingertips tip tip tip tap tap Polyrhythms like nervous fragments from a nervous mouth And these words set the cadence [These words set the cadence] To the crude interpretation of scripts and codes Breeding pixels without homes Reside in my mind, resonate in my eyes
You'll be undercover, under covers Sleeping with the enemy [[Concrete coated gazes in hot pursuit of self-made mazes Talking circles around each other]]
So affect this love affliction Leave the injured overturned Fight for beath with flailing arms In vain, to float the bane [[Leave the injured overturned In vain]]
Tentative tastes for those less interesting [[Stricken with insomnia Veins are pulsing like form jazz Fingertips tap tap]]
Leave the injured overturned Fight for beath with flailing arms In vain, to float the bane [[Leave the injured overturned In vain]]

This song is really wonderful, and I absolutely adore the chorus. "You'll be undercover, undercovers, Sleeping with the enemy. This is what we like to call Internal espionage."
It also has a really surprising meaning, see if you can figure it out :D:D
Submitted by Wakerius on Reddit This makes me smile. Two of my undervalued players by my subjective observations of group-thinking. I'm happy for Greg.
Was going to post something to the effect of "letting of the steam....of luurrrve" in the letting off steam thread but decided that that would be really irreverent because some of the guys in there are really suffering. So. Happy to be back, <3 TL.
Off the empty coast, into the dull sapphire sea, the two pilots landed and took a break on a rocky expanse high above the waves. The two shared a plum juicebox. Leon smiled to Desh, and Desh held it for him. The boy danced in his wheelchair, wavering here and there staring into the distance, flipping his wrists and slamming his fingertips into his armrests, humming a simple song to himself.
Waves crashed onto obsidian rocks, and wind carried away flocks of white gulls. Leon's ship hummed across the expanse. It carried over the sounds of nesting tropical birds among the knee-high bright green grass. And there Zanshrykk floated silently, de-materializing partially, covering Leon's flagship in a white and black cloud penetrating the steel, shedding coats of ash in bright flashes of light. The avatar held no strain of gravity, effortlessly melding atoms out of thin air onto the steel bird.
The two shared the flying life together. The thought shook Leon. He tried to shake it, to snap it out of his tendons. He didn't think of anything. Nothing, he tried. And he continued shaking, he did not want to speak. The afternoon came unexpectedly, a miracle in modern daylight. The boy transformed his proud approach to flying, his life after the academy, the prize fighting, the women, the parties in ecstasy, his new heights and old depths. He didn't know who was more adept, and who could keep the flame deep into the cosmos. This boy carried the free world without a burden, he had only a boys' quest for perfection. Leon could not follow him in his great wake. He had to sit until the boy was ready.
This video is awesome, and really shows how happy a man can be! (Turn on CC if you don't speak norwegian). Also, the reason he is so happy is because he has been walking all alone on the south pole for nearly 3 months.
