LOL, it seems that both of them don't get it at all. I mean the girl seems to be so fucking lazy. But, I think the dad's reaction is the worst you could do... I mean at some point teenagers will always question authorities and that's standard, you don't need to go shoot at a fucking laptop to prove your ''adult point of view''. We could compare the situation to the Syria situation, where the dictator feels he losing the control of his population and then proceeds to kill everybody, definitely not the best way to maintain control in an healthy climate. At least, some teenager girls will be taught a lesson about facebook with this video (at least I hope).

Again, there's a difference between buying a gift for someone else and buying something for your underage child.
As many others have said, she is under 18, and legally, she is essentially his property and therefore anything she owns is also his property.

Man. I don't know how I feel. I feel that the parent was right and I don't think he was crazy, he seemd fairly rational when he was discussing the note that the daughter wrote. However, I don't know if shooting bullets into her laptop is good. It is good that he took it away, but seemed overly violent. I would have taken the laptop apart and make some sort of pseudo art and mount it in the family room.

people can never legally be property. Children have ownership rights just as much as adults. You can't steal from children.
I don't know where you live that it can be true that people are property. property implies you can destroy (kill) them if you want to throw them away. SInce this isnt true in any culture, they are not property. And you don't own anything your kid owns.

When someone curses another person out, do they shoot up their laptops? Although he did act in an extreme manner I would like to ask you if you truely believe that she owned that laptop. (and when I say owned I mean bought it with her money) If she in fact did not buy it but was gifted it from a father who felt she was entitled to a laptop of her own I still consider that his laptop, that he bought, with his money, and gifted that to his daughter in the trust she would respect it and follow proper netiquette. And if you pull the "oh what if her mom bought it for her" card on me he said in the video that he and the mother had agreed she was out of line and discussed the punishment together (while he was busting a cap in it). Blabbing your problems to the whole world on a social networking site is bad enough, but when you drag other peoples names into it that's when you've involved them personally in a matter that with better communication between the two individuals could have been solved in a more grown up manner. Since she acted in a childish manner it would stand to reason that you can only effectively communicate with her in childish ways. My point being maybe his parenting skills shouldn't be dragged into this when it comes right down to it because none of us know if this worked and got through to her that her dad is tired of being disrespected, not to mention humiliated in front of her friends and their families. And my last order of business is that him destroying the laptop which I am sure is HIS in the first place is HIS decision to make. If it indeed is hers, which I highly doubt, he stated it wasn't in a satisfactory condition to meet her needs. He installed $130 of software/parts in it which I imagine he did outta the love and appreciation he has for his daughter. Seems to me she could use a reality check because she could have it way worse.
While i understand that its not technically hers and that he bought it, she can't technically buy anything without a job and 15 is the minimum age for that. Also the point isn't that he took it, the point is that he displayed behavior that he wouldn't want his daughter to have, which is disrespecting property, showing aggression with a gun, and authoritarianism. I'm guessing discipline in his eyes aren't these things but that is what he is physically showing her despite his message. Its not as much the fact it wasn't hers as much as he is feeding her rebellious nature by not addressing the issues she set up and basically saying my way or the highway.

If you give something to your child, something you yourself paid for, you reserve the right to take it away from them. Hell, you can legally take gifts away from friends even you gave shit to if you really wanted to go through the hoops and lose your friends over it. Rambling on now, but you get my point. You're comparing a social idea between two separate entities. Parents and their children are not, and should not be treated as equals.

No they are NOT. They are wards, responsible for the childs behavior, but they do NOT own them.
As to your second point about taking back gifts, thats wholly untrue. A person who gives a gift is transferring ownership, which means taking it back without the expressed permission of the new owner is theft. I suppose Im being trolled.

I love ironic punishment. It's the best method of punishment. This girl went a little too far, lying about "how horrible her life was" and disrespecting her parents in front of, well, every fucking person she knows on facebook, which should be over a hundred or more if she had that account for any period of time. So he got rid of her laptop, which he bought, upgraded and such, in a creative and hilarious fashion. Keep in mind this is, for all intensive puposes, what would have happened in a "normal" household. The laptop would have been taken away and the child would have gotten a stern talking to. He just decided to get creative to drive the lesson home. He's also obviously had to deal with her a lot before now, as he said himself. Completely justified, in my opinion.

anach, provide proof that everything she said was untrue, and that everything he said was accurate representation of the facts. this just in: People lie. politicians do it, especially if maligned, (read the india thread where a politician tries to lie about what he was watchign on his phone to look better). he has all the reason in the world to call his daughter a liar when she levels such accusations at him publicly, shaming him.
My point is, we have no proof either party is telling the truth. People lie for social gains, or to prevent social loss. He has reason to lie, and she doesn't.

Dude, how is the dad a douchebag? Cause he's trying to teach her a lesson? She's even more of an idiot because he's caught her multiple times before for something similar. Lol. Generally everyone from the South is a pretentious douchebag in my opinion. Anyways, take the time to read my post and I praise him for what he did. Don't cherry pick. Generally, people who say things like that are pretentious douchebags in my opinion. If that's your opinion of me, so be it. Fail to see how any of this is relevant to the issue at hand, nonetheless. My experience with that culture has been only negative in my life, so that's my generalized opinion. We all categorize, we all generalize, we all have overarching opinions even if we don't want to admit it. Nonetheless, as that is all entirely irrelevant to the discussion, this guy did a great job teaching his spoiled brat a lesson. I shall respond to your post in 2 part: Part A) Cherrypicking most likely means he didn't disagree with anything you said except the douchebag part. Generally, people in the south are incredibly nice people in my experience. Basically you are stereotyping, instead of objectively judging. It was a worthy cherrypick. In fact, cherry picking would be more like you saying the following: + Show Spoiler + I hate people who say "I hate obese people" and someone responding + Show Spoiler +You said "I hate people". You must be a sadistic asshole What they did is just responding. Part B) You have been trolled~ Basically you are so close to being an intelligent minded poster and responder, and you are just held back by prejudice. You would sound much more intelligent if you kept your stereotype to yourself and only stated it if there was something in the video to evidence that. edit: On February 11 2012 13:12 nttea wrote:He bought the laptop, so in the end it's still his property. Granted shooting it was a bad choice. I don't think this is true, if you give something away it's not your property anymore Don't really see why so many people seem to get a total orgasm out of this, she's being 15 and he's being a dick VERY IMPRESSIVE GO FAVORITE TEAM!!!11 Actually she is under 18 so she is essentially the dad's property and he can therefore control anything he gives her. I guess you are of the opinion that mistakes made when you are a teenage will right themselves eventually somehow where as all the "orgasmers" are pleased to see a parent attempting to create a morally correct offspring. Dad being a dick? For a good reason :D to make a point, to parent, to teach. I mostly don't like the father because of his "holier-than-thou" attitude the entire time. I agreed with everything he said and did. It's just the way he said it made me not like him. what scared me is that the person you quoted saidd the daughter is "the dads property". Right, people are property... Legally, minors are "owned" by their parents. Nothing "scary" about it. They failed teaching her daughter a lesson by conversations and so they moved on to destroy her property, this doesnt seem logical to me... She had already some pretty strict punishment wich might be overreacted in the first place, so she thought she needs to get revenge, now the father thinks he has to step it up once more... In the end this helps absolutely no one. The father might get her a new laptop at some point and some of earth recources get wasted once again bravo bravo... destroy her property On February 11 2012 13:09 Candadar wrote: Pretty sure it was the Father's property, considering he bought it. Well either he gave it to her as a gift, wich would result in a change of ownerchip. Or he is an even bigger idiot destroying his own laptop as an result of her misbehavior. That's not quite how the father/child relationship works. The parent has the right to take shit away, especially if they bought it. If they bought it, they can also destroy it. Also, that was rather funny though. "You'll have to pay me back for these bullets." Yep i get what you say but consider it was a chrismas or birthday gift... In that case its actually changing the owner after that. Still you can take it away but its still the property of them in a way... In my opinion its wrong to use material stuff to parent a child anyway. I would love to hear the actual reasoning behind how what a parent buys for a child is now the childs property in a way equal to the child purchasing it themselves. Dont you split hairs here? I mean isnt a gift a gift no matter how old the person is you give it to. I would not give my kids a present and say to them: "here is a thing you can use till i change my mind or you loose the right to use it". I would tell them "its yours now, you can do whatever you want with it." I actually dont get what you care so much about this. Just read the definition of gift. A gift is a gift no matter how old, however, there is a difference between giving something to your child, and giving something to your buddy or whatever. Man you really get scary to me. I cant say how much i disagree here. ...Because I say minors are not equal to their parents and should not be treated as such in our social strata? The second someone deems it necessary to say the equivalent of "lol troll" in an intellectual argument is the second I stop caring about anything they have to say on the matter. =/
yep, Im glad it'll end here then, because you're explicitly stating people have OWNERship over children as if theyre furniture, which is patently untrue .

Props to him. Girl seemed pretty spoiled compared to a lot of people I know. And was she REALLY dumb enough to repeat something like this after getting in trouble for it once?
Lmao, complaining about cleaning, gardening and stuff.
Personally, I can't fathom bitching like that about my parents. I did dishes, laundry, gardening and wash the bathrooms when I was at home. They were good skills and habits I developed for college, so I guess thanks mom, hehe. I got home at like 5 or 6 every evening after doing extra-curricular stuff. I cooked some days as well, and always wash the dinner dishes by hand. I stay up till around 1 or 2AM every day to do homework, though I do procrastinate. I wake up at like 5 or 6.
We've had our arguments, but family business stays family business. No need to shit on the people who raised, fed, clothed you to the public and beg for sympathy at the same time. Geez, that's the minimum respect you owe parents in my opinion.

woah. this is pretty troubling. that poor girl. destroying things, with a gun no less, is fairly crazy, but publicly shaming your daughter is not going to be good for her. this was not discipline, this was cruelty. i am loathe to judge a situation exclusively on a single youtube video, but this does not paint a good picture of parenting.
