I don't get it :/ You obviously haven't read very much. The idea is so that lots of people become aware of it. Through that, more people will decide it is an important issue, and the US gov is less likely to withdraw their assistance from Uganda.

Although that is true, much of the rest were spent on making videos like Kony 2012. As we've all said, one of their main ways to inform people is the making of the videos. Most people are wow'd by good effects, crisp editing and concise messaging, and making movies that capture all 3 aspects are not cheap. Travel money going across the US and other places informing school children about this movement is also not counted in the 32%. Of course, i'm all for more money DIRECLTY into Uganda/surrounding areas, but IC doesn't have the same goals as the Red Cross. A lot more than 32% was poured into their mission (1.8 million was staff salaries, 400k for renting their setup in San Diego, etc) Just thought i'd share my two cents, to perhaps make people think twice when they hear statistics like that.

There are people like this all over the world. Plenty of people in japan denies Nanjing massacre ever happened, or the Turks refusing to acknowledge Armenian genocide by the Turks

for those who are up in arms about invisible children's financial statements: Invisible children's financial statements do not look much worse than any other non-for-profit organization out there. Also, even though they don't have an "independent audit board," they are audited by an accounting firm. They are a pretty small organization (less than 2 million in total assets), so having an independent audit board is probably not that big a deal. There are a lot of bigger organizations out there without an audit board. the important ratio to consider is the program expense ratio (the amount of money spent directly to further the company's mission; or program expense/total expense), not the direct services expense compared to total expenses. the program expense ratio actually looks pretty good: about 80% of expenses are program expenses. typically non-for-profit companies have program expense ratios of 65-90% so invisible children is right in the middle. Even though they only spent about 3 million on direct services doesn't mean they aren't spending their other money on pointless things. If you look at habitat for humanity's financial statements (a very reputable non-for-profit organization) they look much the same. Their program expense ratio is ~80%, but they spend less than 40% of their money on "House and Building transfers." Most of their money goes to other expenses (like salaries). If you consider the fact that invisible children just made this video and spent a lot of money trying to develop their image, as well as the expenses that go into international travel, it is my opinion that their financial statements look reasonable. Their CEO made <90,000 last year. I just did a valuation of a private company whose revenues were <8 million (net income less than 300,000) and their CEO made over 200,000 last year not including bonuses and stock options. edit: i'm not supporting invisible children, i actually had not heard of them before reading this thread so i'm not saying you should just automatically donate to them but, just from looking at their financial statements i didn't see anything out of the ordinary

They got stuff much more cool than oil in central africa. Look at this film about Congo for example: http://www.vice.com/vice-news/the-vice-guide-to-congo-full-length And another one showing how fucked up things in Africa are: http://www.vice.com/the-vice-guide-to-travel/the-vice-guide-to-liberia-full-length

The dramatic music, slow camera changes, big voice-over, crying children, dead people and mixed with the opposite happy son to show the contrast. Dude you're forgetting the average IQ is 100. 95% of people are thick morons they need things like this otherwise they can't pay attention.
